Chapter 1 - THE SHADOW OF THE NIGHT

The Black Shadow

Chapter 1 – The Shadow of the Night

The city of Noctaris was a place where light and darkness fought every night.

During the day, the city looked peaceful. Merchants sold food in the markets, children ran through the streets laughing, and travelers filled the roads with stories from distant lands.

But when night arrived, the city changed.

The streets grew quiet.

The lanterns burned low.

And the shadows grew longer.

People in Noctaris believed that darkness was dangerous. Thieves, criminals, and mysterious creatures were said to move freely in the night.

But there was something else in the darkness.

Something that criminals feared more than the guards.

They called it…

The Black Shadow.

No one knew where he came from.

No one knew who he really was.

But whenever evil appeared in the night, a mysterious figure would appear from the shadows.

And by the time the sun rose…

The criminals would disappear.

Tonight, the wind blew cold through the narrow streets of Noctaris.

Clouds covered the moon, leaving the city under a blanket of darkness.

Three men walked quickly through a quiet alley.

Their clothes were rough, and their faces looked dangerous.

Each of them carried a sword.

One of them stopped and looked around carefully.

"This is the place," he whispered.

Another man nodded.

"The merchant should pass through here soon."

The third man laughed quietly.

"Easy money."

They waited silently in the shadows.

A few minutes later, footsteps echoed from the street.

An old merchant appeared, carrying a small wooden chest.

The first man stepped forward.

"Well, well," he said with a cruel smile. "What do we have here?"

The merchant froze.

"Please," he said nervously. "I don't have much."

"Then give us everything you have," the second man replied, raising his blade.

The merchant's hands trembled.

Just as the thieves stepped closer…

The wind suddenly became stronger.

The lantern hanging on the wall flickered violently.

Then it went out.

Darkness filled the alley.

The thieves looked around nervously.

"What happened?" one of them whispered.

Then…

A voice spoke from the darkness.

"Leave him."

The voice was calm.

Cold.

And powerful.

The three thieves turned quickly.

A tall figure stood at the end of the alley.

He wore dark armor and a long blue cloak that moved gently in the wind.

His face was partially hidden in shadow.

But his eyes…

His eyes glowed with a bright blue light.

The thieves froze.

One of them whispered in fear.

"The… Black Shadow…"

The mysterious figure stepped forward slowly.

His boots made almost no sound on the stone ground.

The blue cloak flowed behind him like the wings of the night.

The leader of the thieves tried to hide his fear.

"It's just a man," he said angrily. "Three of us… one of him."

He raised his sword.

"Kill him!"

The three men charged forward.

But the moment they moved—

The shadow warrior disappeared.

The thieves stopped in confusion.

"Where did he go?" one shouted.

Suddenly—

A flash of steel appeared in the darkness.

CLANG!

One thief's sword flew out of his hand.

Before he could react, the shadow warrior appeared behind him and knocked him to the ground.

The second thief attacked wildly.

But the warrior moved like the wind, dodging every strike.

Within seconds, the second man fell as well.

Now only the leader remained.

His hands trembled as he held his weapon.

The shadow warrior stood in front of him silently.

The man looked into the warrior's glowing blue eyes.

Fear filled his heart.

"Please," he said. "Don't kill me."

The warrior spoke calmly.

"Then leave this city."

The man nodded quickly.

"Yes! I'll go!"

He dropped his sword and ran away as fast as he could.

Silence returned to the alley.

The merchant stared in amazement.

"You… you saved me," he said.

The warrior turned toward him.

For a moment, the light from a nearby window revealed his face.

He was young.

Perhaps in his early twenties.

His dark hair moved slightly in the wind.

His glowing blue eyes slowly returned to normal.

His name was Ezra Nightfall.

But the people of Noctaris did not know that name.

To them, he was simply…

The Black Shadow.

Ezra looked at the merchant.

"You should go home," he said quietly.

"It's dangerous to walk alone at night."

The merchant bowed gratefully.

"Thank you… Black Shadow."

He quickly left the alley.

Ezra remained
