One afternoon Lena finally confronted her.
"Maya, something isn't right."
Maya frowned. "What do you mean?"
"That guy controls everything you do," Lena said firmly.
Maya felt defensive.
"You don't understand Adrian."
Lena leaned forward.
"I understand manipulation."
Maya's voice rose slightly.
"He cares about me."
Lena sighed.
"Caring and controlling are different things."
Maya didn't want to hear it.
For the first time, she defended Adrian strongly.
The conversation ended awkwardly.
Lena walked away worried.
Maya walked away angry.
But deep inside…
A small doubt had begun growing.
