"Seren? SEREN! ANSWER ME!" Mark roared.
However, what reached Mark's ears was not a human voice. He heard the roar of the wind howling loudly through the phone's microphone, followed by the sound of metal striking concrete and stone with a deafening, thunderous crash. The next second, a small explosion sounded, followed by a long static before the line finally fell into total silence.
Mark stood frozen in the middle of the lobby. His phone was still pressed against his ear, yet his world felt as though it had just exploded along with the sound on the other end of the line. His heart pounded painfully; a sense of emptiness he'd never felt before suddenly sucked all the oxygen from the air around him.
