Chapter 3 - Echoes of the Past

The next morning, Lyra awoke in her room, but something had changed. The air seemed charged with a strange energy, and the veil of fog she sensed every night seemed to have seeped into her reality. The events of the previous night no longer felt like a nightmare: they were real, tangible, and now unavoidable.

A soft knock on the window made her startle. Kael stood outside, drenched from the rain, his gaze intense. Without a word, he gestured for her to follow. Despite her fear, Lyra felt compelled to obey. Curiosity and the need to understand outweighed all caution.

They walked through the silent city to an old abandoned building, hidden behind ivy-covered walls. The facade appeared ordinary, but inside, the air vibrated with an ancient, almost living energy. Kael motioned for Lyra to sit at the center of a large circular room. The walls were engraved with symbols she did not understand, and the floor was covered in sparkling dust, as if each grain held the memory of time itself.

— "Maelis told me to prepare you," Kael said, placing his hand on hers. "What you are about to experience is not a simple lesson: it's a plunge into your past lives."

Lyra's heart raced. Every word Kael spoke resonated with the intensity of her nightly visions. She remembered the field of black flowers, the red sky, Kael in another life… yet she was not ready to grasp the full magnitude of what was coming.

Then Maelis appeared, emerging from the shadows like a silver light.

— "Close your eyes," she said softly. "Let your memories guide you. Do not fight them, but embrace them."

Lyra obeyed, and immediately, her visions consumed her. She found herself transported to another time, another life. She stood in a large ruined city, deserted streets silent, yet muffled cries echoed from the collapsed buildings. She could feel her hands, her body, her emotions… everything was real. And in the middle of the chaos, Kael appeared again, younger, harsher, clad in ancient armor, his gaze piercing her soul.

— "Lyra…" he said, his intensity making her heart shiver. "Do not leave me here…"

She realized she was not merely a spectator: she was living this life, feeling the emotions, the losses, the loves. Each memory was a lesson, a warning, a key to the present.

As she focused on understanding, a figure emerged behind Kael: a massive, indistinct shadow, a force she knew sought to destroy them. Fear shot through her like lightning, but Kael grabbed her hand and whispered:

— "Remember what you have learned. You are stronger than you think."

Lyra felt a power awaken within her that she had never known. The symbols on the floor seemed to glow, responding to her mind. A burst of light erupted, repelling the shadow for a moment, yet the danger was not gone. She realized that every past life, every forgotten memory, was both a weapon and a shield.

When she opened her eyes, she was back in the circular room, breathless and trembling. Kael watched her with concern, but in his eyes shone a silent admiration.

— "You did more than survive," he said. "You've begun to remember."

Maelis nodded, a rare smile crossing her face.

— "This is only the beginning. Fragments of your past are everywhere. The more you learn to read them, the more ready you will be to face what is coming. But beware…"

A deep rumble shook the walls. The light flickered, and a chilling laugh rose in the air, echoing like a void.

— "They know you are awakened…" Maelis murmured.

Lyra felt fear and adrenaline intertwine in her veins. Her bond with Kael was now inseparable, and the tension between them—a mixture of attraction and urgency—burned stronger than ever. Every exchanged glance, every gesture, every breath seemed to signal that their destinies were inevitably tied to the forces around them.

As the laughter faded into the shadows, Kael leaned toward her, his voice low and grave:

— "Lyra… this is only the beginning. Soon, you will have to choose: survive or lose everything."

At that moment, an explosion of light and magic engulfed the room, throwing Lyra to the floor and leaving her in eerie silence. When she opened her eyes, she saw a door engraved with ancient runes opening before her, revealing a world unknown, terrifying, and fascinating all at once.

— "Lyra…" Kael breathed, his gaze fixed on the doorway. "Your destiny awaits… and it will show no mercy."
