Chapter 7 - A Bright Future

The next evening, when Sean returned home, he found a few small items in the living room and immediately knew Natalia had moved in.

But over the next few days, the two only occasionally ran into each other.

There was nothing he could do; after his wallet became empty, Sean chose to eat all his meals at the training base.

This wasn't a bad thing.

Not only did it save money, but it also saved energy, as he didn't have to worry about preparing nutritious meals alone.

Most importantly, it was beneficial for Sean to do extra training.

During the training sessions over these days, Ajax II Head Coach Van der Gaag directly assigned Sean to the main team, and in the following days, he grew more and more satisfied with Sean.

Sean felt this was only natural.

Even more natural was the extra training.

Watching the fusion progress of various attributes in the system constantly accelerate, and feeling his own strength continuously increase, Sean found extra training to be sweet as honey.

He went early in the morning and left late at night.

Sean declared: "I can't stop, extra training simply can't be stopped!"

Most people at Ajax praised Sean's transformation, but this didn't stop a small group of people from secretly gritting their teeth, such as Fischer.

When Sean joined the main team, Fischer said, "He's just in a temporary burst of form; it's not his true strength at all. He'll soon reveal his true colors!"

Seeing Sean do extra training in the mornings and evenings, Fischer was even more disdainful: "To attract the coach's attention, he's actually doing extra training to this extent. Haha, give it a bit more time, and you'll realize that overtraining is not good! If the coach were responsible, he should stop this kid!"

Van der Gaag did indeed talk to Sean, but he only arranged for the team doctor to check Sean's body every day; nothing else changed.

Fischer grew increasingly annoyed, "F***, how is his treatment getting better and better? But it'll be over soon. The second half of the League is about to begin, and Sean has no professional match experience. He can't possibly start on his debut, can he?"

Then...

On January 16th, Van der Gaag announced the starting lineup for tomorrow's match in the locker room, and Sean was surprisingly among them!

Fischer and the others' eyes suddenly widened, "How is that possible?!"

Van der Gaag smiled without speaking.

It was a joke; it was just an Eerste Divisie match. What did it matter compared to developing players?

Actually, Fischer didn't need to be too anxious, after all, he was also on the matchday squad, he just needed to sit on the bench first.

Wang Chengfei was also sitting on the bench with him.

During the training sessions over these days, Wang Chengfei always managed to provide assists to Sean.

Van der Gaag believed that there might be some special chemistry between these two Chinese players, so he brought Wang Chengfei along again.

What if he was needed?

Sean didn't do any extra training this time; after all, the match was tomorrow, so he couldn't expend too much energy today.

After accepting congratulations from Wang Chengfei and others, Sean calmly went home.

Before he even got home, his phone rang. Sean casually glanced at it, and his scalp instantly tingled; he could no longer remain calm.

It was his mother calling.

Of course, it was his previous self's mother.

Sean had previously tried to contact his parents from his past life but couldn't find them. He didn't know if they had been erased by the butterfly effect or if his future and current lives were simply two different, yet similar, worlds.

In short, he had to let it go.

His previous self, however, came from a single-parent family, raised by his mother alone from a young age.

In this world, Sean was closest to his mother.

Of course, his mother also knew Sean best.

What to do?

Would his mother notice anything?

"Hello~" Sean braced himself and answered the phone.

"Sean, have you enrolled in a tutoring class?"

As soon as the call connected, Anna Martins, on the other end, got straight to the point.

"Uh~"

Sean was instantly dumbfounded.

Although he knew he still had half a year before graduating from high school, he hadn't thought about his future studies during this time, let alone any tutoring classes.

He hadn't even thought about it, so how could he enroll?

"Heh~" Anna sneered, "What, trying to play a delaying tactic with me again?

I'm telling you, Sean, your professional career has no prospects at all. There's no way I'll let you gamble the rest of your life on football!

You must take the national unified exam, you must go to university, and you must at least get a bachelor's degree.

If you can't do it yourself, I'll supervise you until you do.

You know, Brussels isn't that far from Amsterdam!"

"Uh~"

Even his closest relative didn't have faith in him?

Sean was choked up and felt very uncomfortable, so he resolutely spoke:

"But, I've already successfully joined Ajax II, and I'm a main player.

I'll be starting in tomorrow's away match against Emmen.

Mom, my professional prospects are absolutely bright!"

Sean finished speaking with a hint of pride; this was definitely influenced by his previous self.

The reason Anna allowed his previous self to play football was purely because playing didn't affect his studies; she had never considered that Sean could have any future in professional football.

Therefore, Anna always believed that Sean's future lay in his studies and demanded that Li Sean not give up.

If no accident had occurred, the reality would probably have been just that.

But now, an accident had occurred, hadn't it!

In front of his mother, Sean couldn't help but feel a little smug.

Anna paused for a moment, suppressing her joy, and calmly said, "So, my son is going to make his professional debut tomorrow, and I'm only finding out now?

Do you really not want me to know about your affairs?

You're keeping such a big matter from me?"

"Ah?" Sean was no longer smug.

This was indeed a problem; it was too unreasonable.

Sean was incredibly embarrassed now, wishing he could slap himself hard:

He clearly knew that procrastination would never lead to anything good, so why did he keep procrastinating on the issue of contacting his mother?

Sean's mouth twitched, and he quickly said, "I just wanted to give you a surprise; I didn't mean to keep it from you."

"Oh~" Anna drew out her tone.

Sean immediately became cautious, "Mom, are you angry?"

"Haha~" Anna et out a cold laugh: "No, why would I be angry? My son wants to give me a surprise, why would I be angry?!"

Sean's scalp instantly tingled.

Even with Sean being much more experienced now, he didn't know how to respond appropriately.

When a woman gets angry, there's nothing a man can do.

If it were any other woman, he could just ignore her.

Otherwise?

Would you spoil her to the heavens?

But now, he couldn't. This was the mother who had raised him single-handedly; he couldn't easily make her sad!

"Alright~" Anna's voice returned to normal, "I'm really not angry, I'm just teaching you a lesson, letting you know that important things can't be kept from me. How did you suddenly get into the second team and become a main player?"

"I just had a breakthrough..." Sean immediately breathed a sigh of relief and rattled off his explanation.

Mother and son chatted for a long time, and only after Anna's advice and blessings did Sean finally hang up the phone...
