[Divine Protection of Justice]
This was one of the many Divine Protections Carlisle possessed. Within a certain range around him, if someone in grave danger cried out for help, no matter how faint the voice, he would always hear the call and sense the location of the person in distress.
Divine Protections were blessings granted to certain people at birth by the world itself, originating from the Od of the world and the Source known as the Od Laguna, the origin of all life.
Some Divine Protections were unique to particular races, while others could appear among humans.
However, most people were born without any Divine Protection at all. Those who did possess one would naturally understand its existence and function without needing anyone to explain it to them.
The moment Carlisle witnessed the assault in the alley, the anger in his heart erupted like a long dormant volcano. It felt as though scorching magma was surging through his chest, threatening to overwhelm his reason.
His normally gentle blue eyes, as calm as a tranquil lake, now churned like stormy waves. A cold fury burned fiercely within them, as if he could incinerate the three men with his gaze alone.
The aura surrounding Carlisle surged like an approaching storm. The air in the alley instantly became heavy and suffocating as his presence pressed down upon the three men.
Their breathing faltered, and their faces turned pale in an instant.
The trio involuntarily stepped backward. The arrogance they displayed earlier had completely vanished under his overwhelming pressure, replaced with fear and panic.
Their eyes darted around desperately, searching for an escape route.
But their legs felt as heavy as lead, refusing to move.
"We… we're finished. Those blue eyes… it's Carlisle Eltheran!"
"Damn it… we have to escape!"
"Why! Wasn't this guy supposed to become the Guardian Knight of the Dragon Chosen?"
The situation had completely reversed. The trembling voices that had once belonged to Subaru now came from the three men instead.
They knew very well that this knight's hatred for evil was famous throughout the Kingdom of Lugunica.
"We… we were just joking…"
Carlisle took a slow breath, suppressing the overwhelming urge to crush the three scoundrels where they stood.
Then he spoke coldly.
"Intentional assault. Robbery. Attempted murder. Multiple crimes."
"Enough charges to keep you in Lugunica's prison for the next ten years."
Each word fell like a heavy hammer, striking directly at the trio's hearts.
The hooligan holding the dagger immediately dropped it to the ground.
His voice trembled with panic.
"No… wait! Sir Knight, this is a misunderstanding!"
"You can take your time thinking about that in prison."
Carlisle's figure disappeared from where he stood like a phantom, leaving only a faint afterimage behind.
In the next instant, he appeared behind the hooligans with lightning speed. His movements were far too fast for them to perceive.
His palm struck forward like an iron clamp, cutting through the air with a sharp gust of wind. The blow landed precisely and heavily on the back of one man's neck.
Thud!
With a dull sound, the hooligan collapsed to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut, losing consciousness before he even understood what happened.
Carlisle did not pause.
His figure flashed forward again, sweeping past the remaining two men like a gust of wind.
Each strike was swift and decisive, perfectly controlled yet powerful.
Thud! Thud!
Two more heavy impacts echoed through the alley.
The remaining hooligans collapsed one after another, unable to even cry out before losing consciousness.
Carlisle stood calmly where he was, his cold gaze sweeping over the three unconscious bodies lying on the ground.
If not for the faint sound of breathing that could be heard at close range, one might easily believe the three of them were already dead.
After dealing with the criminals, Carlisle slowly crouched down.
His expression softened as he looked at the girl curled up in the corner.
There was a hint of guilt in his eyes.
His voice became low and gentle.
"It's alright now. Are you hurt?"
He reached out and lightly patted her shoulder, trying to comfort her.
However, when his gaze fell upon the clothes she was wearing, his pupils suddenly shrank.
A storm erupted within his heart.
The clothing she wore were from Earth.
It looked so familiar to the world that existed in his memories, yet it was completely out of place in this medieval world.
Countless thoughts flashed through Carlisle's mind in an instant.
In the end, they formed a single clear conclusion.
The girl before him, just like him, was a transmigrator from Earth.
A complicated feeling rose in Carlisle's heart.
Surprise.
Empathy.
And a strange sense of familiarity that was difficult to describe.
A powerful urge suddenly appeared in Carlisle's mind.
He wanted to ask her everything about Earth. About the world he once lived in but could never return to.
However, when he saw the fear and unease still lingering in her eyes, he forcefully suppressed that impulse.
Her gaze resembled that of a frightened little animal, filled with vulnerability and helplessness.
He could not bring himself to burden her further.
Carlisle let out a soft sigh and spoke in an even gentler tone.
"You're safe now. I will protect you here."
He reached out slightly, intending to support her shoulders and help her steady herself.
But at that exact moment, the girl's tightly stretched nerves finally snapped.
Her body swayed slightly.
Then she collapsed softly like a puppet whose strings had been cut.
Carlisle reacted instantly.
His arm shot forward and caught her before she hit the ground.
Her body felt incredibly light in his arms.
Her breathing was weak and uneven, clearly the result of extreme fear and exhaustion.
Carlisle looked down at her pale face.
His brows slowly furrowed.
Pity.
Concern.
And a trace of self reproach filled his heart.
If only he had arrived a little earlier.
Carlisle gently laid the girl down on the ground.
Then he crouched beside her and carefully removed his knight's cloak, folding it into a soft cushion and placing it beneath her head so that she would not lie directly on the cold ground.
Taking an unconscious girl to an inn would not be a good idea.
In this world, an unrelated man and woman traveling together could easily become the subject of gossip.
Not to mention that the clothes she wore clearly belonged to another world, making her even more conspicuous.
Carlisle did not want her to face unnecessary trouble or embarrassment after waking up.
So he decided to remain where he was and wait for her to regain consciousness.
Carlisle stood up and turned his gaze toward the three unconscious hooligans.
His expression immediately became stern again.
He quickly dragged the three men together and tied them tightly with the rope he carried.
His movements were efficient and practiced.
Once they were bound securely, he gave them a cold glance and planned to hand them over to the nearby city guards later.
After finishing everything, Carlisle returned to the girl's side.
He stood quietly beside her, silently shielding her from any potential danger.
His gaze rested gently on her face.
Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and her cheeks remained somewhat pale.
Gradually, the girl's breathing became more stable.
Carlisle understood that her world had likely been completely overturned.
At this moment, the only thing he could do was become a temporary support for her.
The mission could wait.
But the girl in front of him should not be forced to face this strange and dangerous world alone.
Because Carlisle knew that his master, Emilia, possessed a powerful contracted spirit.
According to Roswaal, that spirit was one of the six great elemental spirits. Its true form was a radiant beast surrounded by golden flames, known as the Beast of the End.
It was a Great Spirit that governed the power of fire.
Although Carlisle had never fought against a Great Spirit before, he believed that a spirit praised so highly by the kingdom's strongest mage would certainly be capable of protecting Emilia.
