Chapter 95 - Resolving the Ancient Pokémon Incident Ahead of Time

"A feast?"

"You could say that."

Professor Oak brushed aside some rubble nearby and spoke slowly.

Pikachu had no idea what he meant, scratching its head with a confused expression like a puzzled panda.

Seeing the confusion on both Ash and Pikachu's faces, Professor Oak cleared his throat.

"I'm actually training your Pokémon for you."

"Although the equipment is a bit crude, the results should be about the same."

Perhaps because the equipment he had put together looked rather makeshift, Professor Oak scratched his head and laughed awkwardly.

"Well… I guess it does look about right."

Ash watched the Pokémon training methods and had to admit they were quite clever. He couldn't help admiring Oak's creativity—many pieces of furniture had been modified into training equipment suitable for Pokémon.

"Ash, call your mom and your friends to come eat here," Oak said.

He pointed at the large pile of ingredients that Machoke and Machop had just carried over.

It looked like Professor Oak had really gone all out—probably to celebrate Ash capturing the Alpha Onix.

Ash didn't feel like running back and forth, so he simply called home and asked his mom to bring Misty over to Oak's lab for dinner.

"Ash, the Metal Coat you wanted is right there," Oak said, pointing to a shiny object on the table.

Ash walked closer and saw three gleaming Metal Coats.

The quality looked excellent.

"Well… this…"

"Take them," Oak said with a wave of his hand, clearly unconcerned, while continuing to write down various data about Onix on a sheet of paper.

"Professor Oak, hold on a moment."

"I want to evolve the Alpha Onix first."

Ash picked up a Metal Coat and equipped it onto the massive Onix.

Now all that remained was a trade evolution.

"Mhm, the data collection is basically complete."

After double-checking everything, Professor Oak went back inside to fiddle with a communication machine.

To evolve, Onix needed to hold a Metal Coat and undergo a trade.

Now only the trading process remained. Ash had specifically asked Oak to modify the machine so it could handle the process.

"Come back, Onix."

Ash recalled the Alpha Onix into its Poké Ball and followed Oak inside.

"This machine was just finished yesterday. Brock already used it once," Oak said, patting the device.

Ash placed Onix's Poké Ball into one port of the machine, while Oak casually placed another Poké Ball into the exchange port.

After two quick operations, the Poké Ball returned to Ash's hand.

It should have evolved by now.

In Ash's mind, the image of Steelix appeared.

The Alpha Onix evolving into an Alpha Steelix would definitely become even larger, and its body color would turn gray.

"Let's go outside and take a look," Oak said impatiently.

Ash stepped into the backyard and released the Pokémon.

Boom!

The noise Steelix made when it appeared was even louder than when it was still an Onix.

Steelix's body was gray, with red eyes, and its tail resembled a massive spike.

When it opened its mouth, the upper and lower fangs interlocked perfectly.

When its mouth was closed, it gave off an overwhelming sense of intimidation.

But once it opened its mouth… it looked oddly comical instead.

The pressure disappeared instantly.

"Now that's a nice sound."

Professor Oak tapped Steelix's body, producing a crisp clang-clang noise.

While Oak carefully examined Steelix, Ash went to check on the other Pokémon.

By the artificial lake, he saw Bulbasaur playing with a Blastoise.

Blastoise's behavior felt strangely familiar—very similar to Ash's own Wartortle.

When it saw Ash after several days apart, Blastoise dragged Bulbasaur along as it happily bounced toward him.

Ash blinked.

Wait a second.

This Blastoise… was his Wartortle.

It had evolved.

"Blastoise?"

"When did you evolve?"

After chatting with Blastoise, Ash learned the story.

Apparently, Wartortle had argued with Onix and challenged it to a fight.

It got completely beaten.

From that day onward, it trained hard every single day, determined to defeat Onix.

Eventually, it evolved.

Ash couldn't help laughing helplessly.

Charizard hadn't evolved out of anger…

But now Blastoise had.

"Well then, keep it up."

Ash patted the turtle's head, and Blastoise grinned happily.

"Bulba! Bulba!"

The small Bulbasaur jumped into Ash's arms and extended its vines to shake hands with Pikachu.

Charizard also flew over, its body slightly larger than Blastoise.

Among the Kanto starter trio, only Bulbasaur hadn't evolved yet.

Ash didn't force it. Staying unevolved was fine too—at least he could still easily carry it.

After observing the Pokémon's training situation, Ash had to admit he was impressed with Professor Oak's setup.

He spent over an hour with them.

Soon, Delia Ketchum and Misty arrived at the backyard, while Brock returned from buying supplies.

With the Pokémon already finishing all the preparations, Ash and the others started cooking.

Professor Oak had really gone all out today—an abundance of ingredients everywhere.

It was rare to enjoy such a luxurious feast.

Unfortunately, Gary wasn't in Pallet Town. No one knew where he had run off to.

Professor Oak trusted his grandson a lot and rarely restricted him.

Night fell, and the grand dinner gradually came to an end.

[Ding! Use the Dragonite Scale to summon the Ancient Dragonite and help it reunite with its companions.]

Before the archaeological team arrived, Ash decided to place the ancient seal artifacts together with the Dragonite Scale.

As he approached the ancient ruins, the Dragonite Scale began vibrating intensely.

It seemed the Ancient Dragonite had sensed the presence of its companions.

As soon as Ash placed all the ancient seal artifacts together, the Dragonite Scale began glowing.

Three enormous figures appeared.

Ancient Giant Gengar, Ancient Giant Alakazam, and Ancient Giant Jigglypuff.

Unlike in the original events where they rampaged and destroyed everything, they simply stared at Ash and the Dragonite Scale with deep, silent gazes.

They sensed a familiar aura, yet also detected a hint of danger.

Ash himself wasn't sure whether the Dragonite Scale could actually summon the Ancient Dragonite.

The system had only told him that the scale could suppress the three ancient Pokémon, preventing them from going on a destructive rampage the moment they awakened.

So he stood quietly, staring back at them while cautiously trying to communicate.

It was better to resolve this problem early.

Otherwise, when the archaeological team arrived and accidentally released them—just like in the original timeline—the destruction would be disastrous.

At least the current situation was stable.

A few minutes later, Ash saw a massive silhouette approaching from the sky.

The Ancient Dragonite had arrived.

It had indeed found its companions.

This boy and Pikachu hadn't lied to it.

They really had helped it find them.

They communicated in a language even Ash's psychic abilities couldn't understand.

After about an hour, the ancient Pokémon looked at each other.

Then they slowly returned to their respective seal artifacts.

Ancient Dragonite thanked Ash for helping it reunite with its companions.

Then it also returned to the Dragonite Scale.
