Tom stared at Harry with wide eyes. The sound of the other patrons died down as heads turned towards the door. Raven stepped forward calmly and placed a hand on Harry's shoulder. "Let's not cause a scene," she said quietly, her eyes on Tom. "We're just here to go to Diagon Alley."
Tom blinked like he was snapping out of a trance. "Right. Right, of course. Diagon Alley." He cleared his throat and stepped out from behind the bar. "You'll be needing the back wall, then. Come along."
Claire's gaze drifted across the room, her nose wrinkling slightly. She whispered to Raven, "You weren't joking about the hygiene thing."
"I warned you," Raven said back, brushing Medusa's head with her fingers.
Harry leaned toward Raven and whispered, "Why is everyone staring like that?"
"Because you are famous," Raven said under her breath. "And also because you are walking into their world for the first time."
Claire looked down at Harry and said, "Well, at least now I know why people in robes and cloaks are whispering your name like you're some kind of rock star."
Tom led them past tables where cloaked figures sat sipping butterbeer and flipping through spellbooks. They reached a worn brick wall behind the pub, mostly hidden by shadows. Tom turned and gestured toward it. "Right then. Just tap the right bricks in the right order. Three up… two across."
He pulled out a wand and tapped the bricks. The wall began to shift, bricks grinding and sliding apart, unfolding like a puzzle. Harry stared in awe as the narrow passage widened into a bustling street paved with cobblestones and lined with crooked shops and colorful signs.
Raven tilted her head toward the opening. "Welcome to Diagon Alley Harry."
Harry's mouth parted slightly. "This is where we get our school stuff?"
"Everything from wands to robes," Raven said. "And maybe even a few things we're not supposed to get yet."
Claire folded her arms and stepped through the archway after them. "I swear, if this ends with one of you being arrested by magic police…"
Raven replied, "They're called Aurors, actually."
Claire shot her a glance. "That doesn't make it better."
Diagon Alley was alive with sound and movement. Witches and wizards bustled from storefront to storefront, owls hooted from their cages, and a group of goblins in uniform marched past with armfuls of scrolls. Harry looked around with wide eyes. "This place is insane."
"No," Raven said, guiding him gently by the shoulder, "this place is for school shopping."
Medusa lifted her head from Raven's collar and hissed softly, "Too many people."
"I know," Raven said. "Just stay calm." Raven using a spell from her own world is now able to talk to Medusa like Harry can.
Claire eyed a passing witch with three rats on her shoulder and whispered, "This feels like some kind of medieval fantasy festival."
Raven pointed towards a tall building with snowy white pillars. "First stop is Gringotts. That's the wizard bank."
Harry glanced up at the structure. "Is it run by actual goblins?"
"Yep," Raven said. "And they don't play around. Be respectful."
Claire muttered, "Wonderful. Creepy bankers and magical money."
As they walked toward Gringotts, a small crowd behind them was still echoing Harry's name. Tom, still at the door of the Leaky Cauldron, scratched his head and watched them disappear into the crowd. "Bloody hell… Harry Potter I need to report this to Dumbledore."
Raven glanced back once and then led the way forward. "Come on," she said quietly. "We've got a lot to do."
