There lived an old woodcutter and his wife in a small village in Japan. The woodcutter cut wood in the nearby forest and sold them in the market. He didn't earn much but whatever he did was enough for the couple. They were poor but contented.They had only one sorrow.They had no children, they prayed to God everyday to bless them with a child. One morning, the woodcutter took his axe and went to the forest, as usual. His wife also went to the nearby river to wash clothes.
As she was busy in her work, she saw a peach floating in the river. She picked it up and brought it home. She thought of giving it to her husband to eat when he would come.
After some time, the woodcutter returned home. He was hungry. He asked his wife to give him something to eat. The good wife gave the peach to him. He was about to eat it when it split into two parts and a little baby was born into the world. The old couple were very happy, they took the baby as God's gift and brought it up as their own child. Since it was born from a peach ,they named it Little peachling.
By and by ,Little peachling grew up to be a strong and brave young man.
