Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Boy Who Waited in the Rain

The rain grew heavier.

Maya stared at Arjun, unable to breathe properly.

A terrifying thought slowly formed inside her mind.

"Arjun…" she whispered.

"What are you trying to say?"

Arjun looked away.

For the first time since meeting him again, Maya saw fear in his eyes.

Not fear for himself.

Fear of the truth.

Thunder rumbled across the dark sky.

Finally, Arjun spoke.

"After the accident… there were rumors," he said quietly.

"Some people said I survived."

Maya held her notebook tightly.

"And the others?" she asked.

Arjun smiled sadly.

"They said a part of me never left this place."

A cold chill ran through Maya's body.

"No…" she whispered.

"That's impossible."

"Maybe," Arjun replied softly.

"But every year, on the same rainy day, I wake up here."

Maya stepped back slowly.

"What do you mean by 'wake up'?"

Arjun looked at the falling rain.

"I don't remember where I am before this day," he admitted.

"It's like… I only exist when the rain returns."

The bus stop suddenly felt colder.

Maya's heart pounded painfully inside her chest.

"You're scaring me," she whispered.

Arjun's expression softened immediately.

"I never wanted to."

Then he looked at her with quiet sadness.

"That's why I stayed away from you after you remembered the accident."

Maya's eyes filled with tears again.

"But I came back," she said.

"I chose to come back."

For a moment, Arjun said nothing.

Then he smiled—a real smile this time.

"Yes," he said softly.

"You did."

A strong gust of wind blew through the road.

Maya's notebook slipped from her hands and fell onto the wet ground.

Pages scattered everywhere.

Arjun quickly bent down to help her.

But suddenly—

He froze.

One page had opened by itself.

A page Maya had never seen before.

There was only one sentence written on it.

"If the rain remembers us, we will meet again even after goodbye."

Maya stared at the handwriting.

It wasn't hers.

"Who wrote this?" she whispered.

Arjun slowly stood up.

His face had gone pale.

"I did."

Maya looked up at him.

"You wrote in my notebook?"

Arjun nodded weakly.

"The night before the accident."

The rain poured harder now.

Almost violently.

"And there's something else…" Arjun said quietly.

Maya's chest tightened.

"What?"

Arjun looked directly into her eyes.

"The doctors were wrong."

Maya's breathing stopped.

Arjun's voice trembled for the first time.

"I didn't survive that accident for long."
