Full and satisfied, Wangchuan You and Yui said their goodbyes to the Amano household. Even though it was dark, one didn't have to worry too much about cute girls—or cute boys—encountering danger while walking alone at night within Eden Tower.
"See you tomorrow, Zero."
Before leaving, Wangchuan You's smile was the same as always—sweeter and cuter than Yui, who claimed to be the "poster girl" of the North District. But that smile felt a bit different to Amano Zero now.
[Wangchuan You: Favorability 100 (Till Death Do Us Part)]
The favorability display hadn't changed. And since he had already received the reward, it proved it wasn't a system bug. Zero could only comfort himself by assuming that Wangchuan You's "favorability" was just an incredibly deep brotherhood from growing up together, and not the "romance" the system implied.
"Zero, you've been acting weird lately, just spacing out for no reason."
Wangchuan You, who had said goodbye but hadn't actually left yet, reached out and felt Zero's forehead. "You aren't coming down with a fever because of how nervous you were during the duel, are you?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine, totally fine!" Zero instinctively brushed off Wangchuan You's slender, soft hand.
As expected, human prejudice is a mountain. What would have been a mundane, everyday gesture now felt overly intimate and unacceptable to Zero.
"Alright then. You and Shio get some rest early tonight. I'm really going now."
Wangchuan You didn't seem angry at having his hand brushed away, but there was a flicker of something unreadable deep in his eyes.
The Wangchuan residence wasn't far from the Amano house; it was only a ten-minute walk. But as Zero thought about it, he realized he had never actually stepped into Wangchuan You's bedroom in all their years together. It was almost always You coming over to play with him and Shio. On the rare occasions Zero visited the Wangchuan house, You's parents were home, and they stayed in the living room.
"I'm back," Wangchuan You called out as he pushed the door open. The house was no different from any other building in Sector 32—a standard two-bedroom, one-living-room flat.
"Eating at the Amanos' again tonight?" his mother's voice called out casually from the kitchen.
"Yeah," You replied. His tone was unexpectedly cold, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor outside. To put it bluntly, it sounded like he was skipping through the fixed dialogue of an NPC.
Wangchuan You's room was at the very end of the hallway. The walls had no windows, making it dark and somewhat mysterious even during the day. Entering the room, You habitually double-locked the door. Then, he let out a long sigh of relief and collapsed onto his bed.
If Amano Zero were in the room right now, he would have been shocked by two things.
The first was the change in Wangchuan You's physique. After entering the room, You seemed to be a head shorter, and his waist was noticeably slimmer. More importantly, after loosening the collar of his shirt, a slight, rounded curve was visible. To anyone watching, this was a girl's body.
Furthermore, at some point, Wangchuan You's left eye had shifted from light blue to red, revealing heterochromatic eyes. This transformation felt less like a physical change and more like the result of a "disguise" or "illusion" being lifted.
"That was dangerous today. I almost didn't know what to do."
It seemed like You was talking to himself, but he unexpectedly received a reply.
"If Amano Zero had found out, our situation would have become very troublesome."
Faint moonlight filtered through the window, splashing across You's pale cheeks and casting a strange, dark shadow. The shadow's form was not human at all. To a viewer of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX from Zero's era, the silhouette would be unmistakable.
Yubel. An entity with a demonic appearance and a sensual body, one of the top-tier Duel Spirits who, in the anime, could super-fuse twelve dimensions. However, the Yubel of this era and world was different—it was a spirit linked to Wangchuan You's soul from birth. Yubel's hermaphroditic soul had influenced Wangchuan You, who was biologically female, forcing her to project a masculine illusion to the world.
As for the "danger" You mentioned and the "trouble" Yubel spoke of... it wasn't about the duel between Nikaido and Zero. That duel had actually saved Nikaido's life.
"If I'd known, I would have dealt with those pests sooner."
The cold killing intent in You's heterochromatic eyes was real. If she had wanted to, she could have used Yubel's power to make not just Nikaido, but the entire Wynn Group vanish from Eden Tower. Then Zero wouldn't have been harassed for debt, he wouldn't have been asked to move out, and Shio wouldn't have suggested she move into You's room.
This led to the second thing that would have terrified Zero.
The walls and ceiling of the room were covered in photographs. And in every single photo was the same person: Amano Zero.
From his toddler years to childhood, to his teenage self. There were photos of him laughing, crying, excited, and angry... The sheer number and detail of the records were as if Zero's entire life path had been engraved into this room. While every photo was carefully chosen to show him at his most radiant, cute, or cool, if Zero were to see this room, he would likely feel nothing but pure terror.
"Then again..."
Under the moonlight, Wangchuan You's cheeks flushed a deep crimson. She reached out and hugged a pillow on her bed.
"Zero was so cool today!"
Looking closely, the pillow was printed with a photo of Amano Zero as a child. It was a mystery how she had managed to take all these candid shots.
A young girl's blush speaks louder than any words. As she lost herself in the memory, her eyes were filled with nothing but adoration and obsession for Zero.
"Yubel, do I really have to wait until I'm twenty? I'm almost at my limit."
"Just endure a bit longer, You," Yubel chuckled helplessly.
"Ugh, two more years. I want to hold Zero so badly! I want to touch his face, kiss his forehead, strip him, lick..."
This was a major miscalculation on Zero's part and a landslide victory for the System. The 100 favorability points shown for Wangchuan You weren't the "brotherhood" Zero used to comfort himself. It was, in the truest sense, a "Love" that transcended normal relationships—something even more intense than a "Yandere."
However, the truth of this, much like the moonlight tonight, might fall into Zero's eyes, but it could never be truly glimpsed. Because in Eden Tower, even the moon above was a lie.
