"Wait, Elena!" Jane cried out, seeing me pinned to the earth. She broke into a desperate sprint toward the center of the field. But without even looking away from me, Elena raised her palm toward her.
"You don't have any rights to interfere," Elena said coldly. An invisible barrier shimmered into existence, halting Jane in her tracks and throwing her backward.
As the blue screen flickered in my vision, a sudden, searing heat began to spread through my body. But unlike before, I wasn't feeling the agonizing pain of muscles being torn apart and stitched back together. Instead, I felt a surge of raw, explosive power coursing through every corner of my being.
The crushing pressure Elena was putting on me suddenly felt lighter, not because the gravity had decreased, but because my body was becoming something that simply didn't care about the weight anymore.
