Chapter 1 - The Thread That Bound Them

Suriya slowly lifted her hand.

A thin red thread glowed softly around her left ring finger.

It was alive.

Not like an object.

Not like something tied by human hands.

It pulsed gently—like it was breathing.

A faint warmth spread from it, traveling through her fingers… into her veins… into her heart.

She stared at it, unable to fully understand what she was seeing.

Just moments ago—

Nothing had been there.

Now—

It existed.

Real.

Unavoidable.

Before her stood ten men.

All of them were looking at her.

No one spoke.

The air around them felt different.

Heavy.

Still.

As if even time had paused to watch what had just happened.

They had been strangers.

Just a few hours ago—

They didn't even know each other's names.

But now—

Something invisible yet undeniable connected them all.

The red thread trembled slightly.

Then—

It moved.

From her finger, the single thread stretched forward… slowly… like it was searching.

Then suddenly—

It split.

One became two.

Two became five.

Five became ten.

Each thread extended toward the ten men.

No confusion.

No hesitation.

As if it already knew where to go.

And then—

Without resistance—

Without rejection—

Every one of them accepted it.

The threads wrapped gently around their fingers.

Softly.

Naturally.

As if it had always belonged there.

As if this connection… was not being created—

But revealed.

Suriya's breathing slowed.

Her heart was calm—

But her thoughts were not.

She didn't even know if what she had done was possible.

One person.

Ten bonds.

Ten marriages—

At the same time.

It should have been impossible.

It should have been rejected.

It should have failed.

But it didn't.

It worked.

Silence surrounded them.

No panic.

No questions.

Only a quiet understanding.

Because deep inside—

They all knew.

She had done this to save them.

And they had accepted it.

Not because they were forced.

But because… something inside them agreed.

Suriya slowly lowered her hand.

The threads remained.

Glowing softly.

Unbreakable.

A connection that could not be undone.

For a brief moment—

No one moved.

No one even tried to speak.

Because none of them knew what words could match what had just happened.

Then—

That moment faded.

Like a scene dissolving into memory.

And everything shifted.

A few hours earlier…

Cold wind brushed against Suriya's face.

Sharp.

Clean.

Alive.

She stood at the edge where soil slowly turned into ice.

The Himalayan mountains stretched endlessly before her—vast, silent, and overwhelming.

White peaks rose into the sky, covered in snow that reflected the morning light.

The air felt thin.

The silence felt deep.

Yet—

To her—

It didn't feel unfamiliar.

It felt like she had returned to a place she had always known.

Since childhood, something inside her had been calling her toward these mountains.

Not loudly.

Not clearly.

But constantly.

A quiet pull that never left her.

Even when she ignored it—

It remained.

Now, at twenty-five—

She finally answered that call.

More than a hundred people gathered behind her.

Some adjusting their bags.

Some laughing loudly.

Some taking pictures as if this was just another trip.

Voices mixed together, creating a restless noise that echoed slightly in the open space.

Different people.

Different reasons.

But Suriya stood apart from all of it.

Not physically—

But internally.

Because for her—

This was not just a journey.

Something deeper waited ahead.

She didn't know what.

But she could feel it.

A guide approached her, checking a list.

"Suriya?" he asked.

She turned and nodded.

"Come," he said. "I'll take you to your group."

She followed him quietly.

They walked through the crowd.

Passing people of different ages—

Young explorers filled with excitement.

Middle-aged travelers moving carefully.

Even a few older participants who walked slowly but with determination.

Everyone carried something.

Gear.

Expectations.

Curiosity.

But Suriya carried something else.

A feeling she couldn't explain.

The guide stopped.

"These are your group members," he said.

Suriya looked up.

Ten young men stood before her.

At that exact moment—

Something shifted.

It wasn't visible.

It wasn't loud.

But it was real.

A quiet connection.

A strange familiarity.

Her fingers tightened slightly.

She had never seen them before.

She was certain.

And yet—

Why did it feel like she had known them?

The ten boys felt it too.

None of them spoke.

But their eyes stayed on her for a moment longer than normal.

As if trying to understand something just beyond their reach.

Something that didn't have words.

The guide continued speaking, unaware.

"You'll stay together for the entire trip," he said. "Don't separate."

But his voice felt distant.

Because something else had already begun.

Then—

A loud announcement cut through the air.

"Everyone, please listen carefully!"

All attention shifted.

An organizer stood at a higher point, holding a microphone.

His voice was clear.

Professional.

Controlled.

"You have all been divided into groups based on your age and walking capability."

"Stay with your group at all times."

"This is a large expedition. You will not move together as one group. Each team will walk at its own pace."

A brief pause.

"Share your contact details with your team members."

"Create a communication group."

"Check on each other regularly."

His tone changed.

More serious.

"This is not a controlled tourist area."

"There are risks."

A silence spread slowly across the crowd.

"If anything happens to you—"

"The organization is not responsible."

The words landed heavily.

"You have already agreed to this before joining."

Another pause.

"If any situation changes, announcements will be made through speakers."

"Stay alert."

"Follow instructions immediately."

The announcement ended.

The atmosphere shifted.

Excitement dropped.

Reality settled in.

One of the boys stepped forward.

"We should add you," he said.

Suriya nodded.

He collected her details and added her to their group.

Another one spoke casually, but with a calm tone.

"We're from China," he said. "We came together."

Suriya looked at them.

"All ten of you?"

He nodded.

"I came alone," she said.

A brief silence followed.

But it wasn't uncomfortable.

It felt natural.

Like the space between them had already adjusted.

Another guide approached nearby groups.

"Do not move alone," he said firmly.

"Stay within sight of your team."

"This region has unpredictable dangers."

"Follow instructions immediately if you hear emergency announcements."

He looked at them one by one.

"Out here…"

His voice lowered slightly.

"Small mistakes can cost your life."

Then he walked away.

Silence returned.

The mountains stood still.

Watching.

Waiting.

Suriya glanced at the ten boys beside her.

Strangers.

And yet—

Not strangers.

She couldn't explain it.

But something had already begun.

Something quiet.

Something unseen.

Something that would soon—

Change everything.

And none of them—

Knew it yet.
