Chapter 154 - Chapter 154: The Blessing of the Four Gods

As the saying went, an idea could be good in theory, but once it reached the execution stage, all sorts of strange problems would inevitably crop up.

Bruce was no exception.

Even though he had already lowered his wish to the bare minimum—he would count it as a success so long as he could so much as scratch Khorne—the Khorne daemons blocking his way were like a wall. He could not go around them, and if he fought them head-on, his two claws were nowhere near enough to withstand the rotational beating of tens of thousands of units.

Even after Bruce had clawed so furiously that his arms became a blur, even after the disruption fields of his lightning claws had run themselves dry, he still failed to break through the daemons' defensive line.

The only reason he was still alive was that his power armor had held up. More than once, it had shielded him from fatal blows. Otherwise, he would not have merely collapsed. His soul would have been torn away by Khorne, reduced to an eternal slave and subjected to everlasting torment in the flames.

"..."

Each time Bruce swung his fists, he could hear the aching groan of his own body. That told him he had reached his limit.

Right now, he was completely spent.

At first, he had still been able to kill a few of them. Then merely blocking and defending had become difficult. After that, even disengaging had become a luxury. Bruce, battered by wave after wave of attacks, no longer had any strength left.

In the end, a great blade struck his shoulder and sent him flying helplessly. Then the Bloodletters swarmed him, hacking down with shrill, excited laughter, intent on dismembering him.

Kill this one, and they would receive the Blood God's blessing!

Bruce lay on the ground like a tin can, able only to endure the endless clangs and bangs hammering against him.

He had thought about resisting.

But he truly had no strength left.

The only thing he could do was let his life flash before his eyes while his power armor could still provide him some protection.

Was his Warhammer journey really going to end here?

How frustrating.

He had been winning, winning, and winning all the way here—only to lose in the end.

Well, fine.

He had been careless. He had never imagined Khorne could be this shameless.

What kind of nonsense was this?

"Killing a Greater Daemon of Khorne earns you the reward of being dragged into his divine realm"?

How was that any different from finally finishing some members-only meal, only to be rewarded with white pudding?

"Are you giving up just like that, boy?"

A very familiar, and also very idiotic-sounding voice echoed faintly in the depths of Bruce's mind.

"Hm?!"

Bruce was astonished to discover that the Bloodletters around him had slowed to an impossible crawl, as though a stasis field had enveloped his body.

Tze—Tzeentch?

What the hell?!

"Little one, I won't allow you to die here and become [Khorne]'s trophy~"

Another bewitching voice drifted in after it.

Immediately afterward, as Bruce caught a faint fragrance, he suddenly felt his utterly depleted stamina being replenished. Then came an indescribable exhilaration, an urge to fight Khorne for several hundred more rounds.

Yeah!

I absolutely cannot fall here!

"Bruce... son of Curze... I... have always been watching you..."

Then the Emperor's voice followed.

Bruce discovered that his lightning claws had begun to blaze with a fire different from Khorne's flames. This was a flame that could drive away the night and bring hope and civilization to humanity.

"Bruce, I still haven't settled accounts with you! How could you fall here just like that? Become that brute's slave? I won't allow it!"

Another voice rang out—childish, angry, yet gentle.

Then, to Bruce's amazement, the wounds across his body began to heal.

Bleeding organs and broken bones were all repaired.

A mighty power, one strong enough to contend even with the heavens, made Bruce's blood surge. He immediately rose, then punched through the frozen space itself, shattering it together with the Bloodletters pressing down on him.

Yeah!

I, Bruce, am going to make it back alive—then bake strawberry cake for my father!

"?!"

Seated upon the Brass Throne, Khorne watched this scene in towering fury.

When he saw that Bruce now bore four mighty blessings at once, he immediately understood everything.

Damn it!

Those four had interfered!

Even you intend to steal my warrior from me?!

"What they can give you, I can give as well! Why will you not accept me?!"

Khorne roared the question.

"Because..."

Bruce vanished in a flash, sweeping out with one claw and smashing apart a vast swathe of Khorne daemons. His speed was terrifying, and he ignored every attack thrown at him.

"Free stuff is the best!"

For the first time, Bruce felt how powerful he truly was.

Who cared what kind of Khorne daemon unit stood in front of him? One claw was enough to instantly kill it. Even if the blow failed to finish it, the flames clinging afterward would burn it to death by force.

Not only that, Bruce's sensitivity to psychic energy and his proficiency in wielding it were both steadily rising. He could now even unleash psychic shockwaves. With a simple thought, the daemons within range would be reduced to ash.

And all of this came from the authority granted to him by the other four gods.

What was Khorne supposed to be?

When Bruce ate his blessing, that bastard tried to kill him!

"Incomprehensible! Incomprehensible! Bruce Wayne, you incomprehensible wretch!!!!"

Khorne tried to pour his own blessing into Bruce, only to discover that an invisible force was interfering.

Seeing Bruce wreak havoc in his divine realm, even going so far as to defile this place with the powers of the other Chaos Gods, Khorne could no longer restrain himself and decisively took action.

In an instant, the entire domain of Khorne began to tremble violently as if struck by an earthquake. Storms of blood and fire raged. The magma flowing beneath the earth erupted in response to Khorne's movement, while meteors spat from volcanoes became the symbol of his fury in this very moment.

"If I cannot have him, none of you shall either!!!!"

Khorne gripped his colossal hellblade and thrust it down toward Bruce, who was as insignificant as an ant upon the ground.

The blade screamed as it descended.

The sky itself seemed to collapse.

Before the sword had even arrived, the surface-level pressure had already begun to gather. An invisible force pressed down upon every being within the Blood God's arena.

Under such terrifying pressure, even the simplest act of breathing became exceedingly difficult. Many of the weaker daemons exploded on the spot, and as the blade drew closer, that chain of explosions became even more obvious.

Although Bruce now bore four blessings, his body was still that of a mortal. Faced with such horrific power, he inevitably struck a bottleneck.

He could feel his body being torn apart and reassembled over and over. At every instant, psychic power was maintaining his fragile flesh and soul.

Khorne's power was, in the end, far too overwhelming.

The great sword representing destruction descended from the sky.

No one could stop it.

A crisp metallic clang rang out.

The hellblade that had been crashing straight toward Bruce was deflected.

Khorne's hand was jolted aside.

Although the massive sword ultimately did strike the ground, it merely destroyed several bronze fortresses outside the arena, reducing them to a molten land devoid of all life.

"Who?!"

Khorne had never expected that someone could shift the sword in his hand by sheer strength alone.

When he focused his gaze and saw that the newcomer was a familiar, foolish big brute, he could not help but burst into delighted laughter.

"Hahahahaha—"

Was this double happiness arriving at his door?

He had been worrying over how to turn this one into his Daemon Primarch, and now the fool had delivered himself right to him.

Good!

Then both his and Bruce's souls would belong to Khorne!

He would fuse them into one and forge them into the strongest warrior of his army of destruction!

"Ang... Angron? Why are you here?!"

Bruce looked at Angron, whose hands were almost shattered and who was coughing blood, and asked in shock.

"I go wherever I want! The time limit on our agreement is over! You can't control me anymore!"

Angron answered without even turning his head.

Although he too was coughing blood, Angron forced it down.

He did not want Bruce to see his injured state.

It was too embarrassing.

A trap designed specifically for a Primarch—how could he possibly allow an Astartes to be the one to step into it?

He would never allow that!

"Was it Them who helped you?"

Bruce glimpsed the golden, green, purple, and blue radiance shining from Angron's body—especially from the back of his head—and immediately understood everything.

The only beings capable of precisely cutting into Khorne's realm and entering it were those four supreme existences.

But...

Why would They do this?

What was Their purpose in helping them?

"Although I hate that slave master! But!"

Angron turned back and looked at Bruce with a face full of disgust.

"I have no reason to abandon you!"

"And! I owe you one life!"

Even if he had to die, Angron would first find a way to repay that debt before dying.

Otherwise, it would be too disgusting.

He could not stand receiving help like that.

"Then I guess there's no helping you..."

Bruce took a deep breath, then made a half-step hop to Angron's side.

"How do we fight? You decide. In this damned place, I won't last too long."

Angron could already faintly feel the nails in the back of his head going mad again.

"Help me hold off the small fry. I'm going to kill Khorne!"

Bruce made his bold declaration.

"Good! Let's do it that way!"

Angron grinned, tightened his grip on his battle-axe, and swung it toward the newly respawned Greater Daemons of Khorne.

So what if he died?

Before he died, he would still bite a chunk of flesh from the enemy!
