Some kids trembled as they clung to their mothers' legs, some fathers hid their wives behind them, while others still wanted to admire the chickens, but their gaze drifted towards Adam every few seconds.
After walking past them, the tension had dropped, yet Adam didn't seem preoccupied by it at all. His eyes were roaming around the crowds and streets.
William wasn't paying attention to where he was walking and bumped into Adam. He laughed softly and rubbed the back of his neck.
''Heh, sorry, Adam… I wasn't looking.'' But to his surprise, Adam didn't react.
He looked up at him curiously and followed his gaze. William's eyes widened when they landed on a greenish and wet tentacle sticking to a wall.
He immediately moved to block Leyla's view with his body. To shield her if that thing attacked, but also so that she doesn't freak out.
Adam stepped back, leading them to do the same as he made a purple sword appear in his hand.
He held it at the creature, who was slowly moving out of the alleyway it was hiding in.
A machister.
A figure slowly rose, revealing an even bigger figure who was bigger than a building.
The creature roared. Its soaked body growing in seconds.
All three of them started running, the wind started blowing again. Great.
The crowds started screaming in horror and running.
There were no hunters nearby.
There was no sign of powerful beings nearby.
They were dead.
Suddenly, Adam stopped running.
William looked back and hid Leyla behind him.
''Adam…!'' He whisper-shouted. ''Are you crazy?!!??!!! What the heck are you doing?!''
Adam turned around to face the giant monster as a slow, predatory smirk formed on his lips.
''Alright, I'm done playing games…'' he lunged forward and planted his sword in one of the tentacles of the machister with a purple cloud.
William's breath hitched.
But Adam's action literally did nothing—
With a dark chuckle that echoed through the streets, he teleported on the creature's back.
With a slight flicker of his wrist, the creature's head got slit.
William's eyes were wide with horror… and admiration.
He had to admit it was impressive.
The hit's pressure caused a blow of wind to whistle at them.
Adam jumped out of the creature's dead body with a smirk.
''Tada~'' he said with a grin.
But that was celebrating victory way too soon…
The creature's body didn't drop to the floor.
Its head rolled up a building, it's stickiness sure helped a lot.
The creature roared and stepped on… a kid. Tears formed in William's eyes as Adam just huffed.
''Well, crap, I guess.'' He mumbled under his breath, looking at the scene with mild annoyance.
The creature's head returned to its neck as it glued back.
Then, people from all around tried using their powers on the machister. Some tried freezing it, others tried burning it, some tried shocking it, nothing worked.
The machister's body started getting covered with mouths. As they bit on people's heads and bodies. It was a gory sight. William was paralyzed by fear and Adam was about to just… walk off.
William frowned softly and started running towards the monster, leaving his sister behind as he started fighting the monster. If he fell, he would be doomed.
He tried using his special vision to anticipate the monster's mouvements— which served him.
The machister hit the floor with a deafening roar.
William jumped and ran on the floor pieces that had been sent flying by the monster. He almost fell doing so, but he didn't stop. He couldn't stop. He jumped to reach the monster's safest place: it's back. It had few mouths there.
He jumped and reached out to grab one of the monster's back's tentacles, but he was about to fall in one of the machister's mouth…
But Leyla intervened before he could.
A sharp blow of wind sent him flying above the monster's body… from several meters high...
He yelped and closed his eyes when he felt a gloved hand holding his.
Adam smiled widely like a kid and shouted.
''Silver!!!''
William opened his eyes and looked at her with wide eyes.
She looked at him through tired eyes before sighing. She opened a red portal under him that led him to fall into Adam's arms.
Adam caught him with ease, but all his attention was on Silver.
Silver made a red rope appear to attach it to one of the machister's tentacles.
With a sharp inhale she jumped off the creature's back and swung all the way to it's other shoulder. Arrived there, she jumped onto it's head and pulled on the string. Hard. The machister started falling backwards.
The moment it hit the floor, Silver jumped into it's principal mouth.
William just stared at it as if she was the dumbest person of all time.
A few seconds later, the monster made pained noises and closed it's small eyes. Silver came out of it's mouth a few minutes later, covered in the machister's saliva with a disgusted face.
Before she could even talk, Adam ran up to her and hugged her tightly with a wide smile as he kissed his cheek.
''SILVER!!!! My baby, I knew you'd come the second you'd flare danger…'' he affectionately kissed her damp, round cheek. He couldn't care less about the saliva. After all, it was also technically a drink sold.
William stared at them dumbfounded, but he sighed.
''Alright… you got what you wanted… to what price? Half the city is dead.'' He said, his eyes said everything: he was disappointed.
Adam just shrugged.
''Oh, calm down.'' He chuckled and snapped his fingers. Everyone's bodies started regenerating…
And one by one…
They started waking up.
William's eyes widened with awe and hope.
Adam looked back at Silver and smiled, leaning in to brush his nose and lips against her cheek.
''So,'' he started. ''Are you proud of me~?''
She, herself, shrugged with a sigh.
''I guess…'' she mumbled, her voice low and groggy.
Adam's smile widened as he affectionately nuzzled her cheek with a soft, ironic 'yay…'.
William cleared his throat to get their attention, which worked.
''So… about the Sun Goddess.'' He mumbled.
Silver's ear twitched again as she frowned.
She sighs and lifts her head, a small pause…
''You're looking at her…''
She then nods towards Adam with another sigh. ''And he is the inherited Death God.''
William's eyes popped out of their sockets.
''WHAT?!!!!????!?!?!?!!! Your description was completely different!!!''
Leyla slowly ran up to them and raised an eyebrow.
''Did I hear that right?''
Adam nodded and hugged Silver tighter… while she was just glaring at him—
''She's right… About Silver being the Sun Goddess, it's a little more complicated than that… but yeah, basically.''
William's jaw dropped… before he ran towards her and knelt down with a desperate and hopeful smile.
''So you can help me and my sister, right…? You can save us…! You can bring us back out parents and—!''
Adam glared at him and positioned himself in front of her.
''Who do you think she is? Someone who helps pieces of trash like you with her small, divine hands?!'' He laughs darkly, his teeth sharpening. ''She has better things to do. She doesn't care about you! She only cares about me!!!'' His smirk turned wicked.
Before he could saying any more hurtful things to William, Silver's boot was already pushing Adam away. He made a small 'oof' and moved to the side… reluctantly.
Silver set a gentle hand on his head and patted it.
''Don't listen to him.'' She said, almost gently… ''I'll help you… what's the problem?''
William's eyes teared up as he hit the ground.
''Chocland's king… he kidnapped our parents…!!! You're the only one who can help us…!!!!''
He softly cries.
Silver's eyes widen at the situation.
She turns around and looks down at the ground, her teeth clenched. She knew the king all too well… she lets out a small sigh and thinks carefully before pinching the bridge of her nose.
''I'll…. I'll try helping you. But I can't assure you anything... I needed to defeat him anyway. Just give me some time.''
A shaky and fragile smile forms on William's face as he nods.
''Yes! I'll give you as much time as you need… just please, find them… and bring them back to us…''
She gives him a rare, reassuring smile before stepping forward.
''Thank you for your understanding.'' She gives him a hand to help him up.
Silver turns to Adam and sighs, speaking through clenched teeth and looking at anything that isn't his infuriating smug smirk…
''Can we… sleep at your place…?''
She looks back up at him as his smirk only widens.
He pats her sticky hair— that usually was soft— and chuckles.
''Good girl…'' he says smoothly. ''But only if you sleep in my bed~''
Silver's eye twitches.
''Aren't you like 15?!''
Adam shrugs.
''You're 13, and yet you just killed a monster with your bare hands.'' He snorts. ''Besides, our age is only physical. Chronically, we lived wayyyyyy more than that.''
William wipes away his tears while Leyla reassuringly rubbed his back.
''You're only 15, sir…?'' He asked softly. Adam had the appearance of a man. Not a random teenage guy— Silver's age was more believable. She was short— really short.
Adam nods.
''But as I said, it's only physically.'' He abruptly stands straight again. ''A-ny-ways! Let's go to my apartment now~''
William and Leyla blinked while Silver just followed him with a frown.
The dark circles under her eyes were so deep that anyone could swim inside of them, it managed to get William a little concerned… but again, William wasn't really impressive. While she.. was a Goddess…
