Rong Ci: "..."
She felt a bit awkward but wasn't overly uncomfortable. After all, regardless of the circumstances, they were a married couple. They had performed the "duties" of marriage quite a few times in the early years.
In the years since their wedding, she had always hoped that Feng Tingshen would fall in love with her. However, she had never deliberately tried to seduce him. It wasn't that the thought hadn't crossed her mind; she just felt it would be useless on him, so she never put it into practice.
Therefore, the pajamas she usually wore at home were just standard two-piece sets with loose lapels. The top she was currently wearing happened to be oversized and quite long. Even though she wasn't wearing pants, it wasn't particularly revealing. She believed she had no intention of trying to tempt him.
To avoid any misunderstanding, however, she still explained, "I just forgot to grab my pants..."
Rong Ci felt that since the top was loose and the hem was long, she wasn't exposed even without her pajama bottoms. But she forgot that she had a stunning figure, perfectly balanced and curvaceous. The high-low cut of the shirt perfectly showcased her fair, jade-like legs, while her private area was subtly hinted at...
On top of that, she had just finished bathing. Her face was tender and white, and her skin glowed brilliantly, giving her an air of clean, pure innocence. Consequently, this shirt gave her the unmistakable "boyfriend shirt" look. It was even more provocative than wearing actual sexy lingerie.
Feng Tingshen listened to her words, glanced at her twice, then averted his eyes. "Mhm," he responded indifferently.
Relieved that he hadn't misunderstood, Rong Ci said nothing more and turned to head into the walk-in closet. When she finished dressing and emerged, Feng Tingshen was still in the room. Rong Ci felt they had nothing to talk about. After casting him a brief glance, she walked past him and sat at her vanity to begin her skincare routine.
Feng Tingshen stood up, grabbed some clothes from the closet, and went into the bathroom to shower. It was getting late. After finishing her skincare, Rong Ci went straight to bed.
The last time she had shared a bed with Feng Tingshen at the ancestral home, her mind had been as calm as still water, and she had fallen asleep quickly. Perhaps because Feng Tingshen had just agreed to help her, her emotions were a bit complicated, leaving her wide awake even after lying there for quite some time.
By then, Feng Tingshen had finished his shower and come out of the bathroom. A moment later, he turned off the lights and lay down on the other side of the bed. Rong Ci didn't open her eyes, but she could feel the distance between them. Feng Tingshen had no intention of speaking to her.
The room was silent. After a long while, Rong Ci's consciousness drifted from clarity to a blur, and she unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
The next day.
When Rong Ci woke up, she was the only one left in bed. After washing up and changing, she went downstairs to find that Grandma was already up. Grandma was about to speak upon seeing her, but then Feng Tingshen returned from outside. He was wearing a grey tracksuit, his hair slightly damp with sweat. It looked like he had just finished a run.
He glanced at Grandma and greeted her, "Morning."
The old lady looked at the two of them and seemed rather displeased. "You... both of you are up this early?"
Hearing this, Rong Ci found it strange. Was it not a good thing that she and Feng Tingshen kept healthy hours? Why did Grandma seem so
Just as the thought occurred to her, she heard Feng Tingshen speak indifferently. "I've studied pharmacology. That soup of yours had no effect on me."
With that, he turned and went upstairs.
Rong Ci was stunned. It took a couple of seconds for her to realize what Feng Tingshen meant: Grandma had drugged the soup they drank last night... And it was that kind of drug. However, Feng Tingshen understood medicinal properties and had seen right through it. It seemed he hadn't actually drunk the soup last night.
Rong Ci never expected the old lady to do something like that. She frowned, but before she could speak, Grandma let out a dissatisfied sigh. "Sometimes, it's not a good thing for a grandson to know too much. Sigh, I really wanted another great-grandson. Little Ci, when you have time, you and Tingshen need to work harder, do you understand?"
Rong Ci: "..."
She didn't know what to say. Even though Feng Tingshen had agreed to help her the previous night, she knew there was no longer any possibility of them staying together. If something had actually happened between them last night, that would have been truly disastrous. As for having another child, it was even more out of the question.
While she was lost in thought, Feng Jingxin came downstairs. Seeing the girl and remembering her admiration and affection for Lin Wu, Rong Ci's expression cooled slightly.
During breakfast, Feng Tingshen naturally took his seat beside her as usual. Yet, neither of them took the initiative to speak. Rong Ci had taken Feng Jingxin to school yesterday; today, Jingxin asked Feng Tingshen to drop her off.
Feng Tingshen agreed, "Understood."
Grandma glanced at Rong Ci and said, "Then, Tingshen, you should take Little Ci with you. Since you're both going to the same"
Rong Ci interrupted her, "There's no need, Grandma. He has a lot of social engagements and won't always be at the office. It's inconvenient for me not to have my own car."
But the old lady wouldn't have it. "If he has to go out, he goes out. If you're done with work and don't have a car, just call ahead and have the driver pick you up. Isn't that simple?" Before Rong Ci could respond, Grandma made the final decision. "Then it's settled."
Rong Ci: "..."
She looked over at Feng Tingshen. He remained silent, which was effectively an agreement.
After breakfast, Rong Ci had no choice but to join Feng Jingxin in Feng Tingshen's car. Jingxin was clearly accustomed to this routine as she hopped in. She was actually quite happy today because both Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen were dropping her off together.
Rong Ci, however, couldn't even remember the last time she had sat in his car. As she prepared to climb in after Jingxin, Feng Tingshen suddenly spoke. "Sit on the other side."
Rong Ci froze, feeling a sting of embarrassment. Still, she circled around to the other side and got in after the driver opened the door for her. Feng Jingxin sat between her and Feng Tingshen.
Feng Tingshen seemed busy, occupied with replying to messages on his phone. Rong Ci stared straight ahead, but Jingxin snuggled into Feng Tingshen's side, poking her head up to peek at his screen. "Oh, it's Auntie Wu Wu."
His eyes didn't leave the screen as he gave a non-committal "Mhm" in response to the girl.
Perhaps remembering that Rong Ci was there, she noticed Jingxin stole two glances at her before returning her gaze to the phone. The girl didn't read the chat between Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu aloud. After a while, Jingxin probably got bored. She pulled away from his side and opened the car's storage compartment.
Rong Ci truly didn't mean to look. But out of the corner of her eye, she happened to catch a glimpse of the contents.
There was a lipstick, a small lady's handbag, and a little backpack Jingxin used to use... She didn't need to think twice to know that the lipstick and handbag belonged to Lin Wu.
Seeing this, she finally understood why Feng Tingshen hadn't let her sit on his side of the car. It was because that was the seat Lin Wu usually occupied.
He wouldn't allow her to sit there.
