After leaving Maiden's Peak, Ash and his party entered a vast and beautiful plain. It was a carpet of brilliant flowers with a pleasant climate, truly a paradise for many Bug-type and Flying-type Pokémon.
Ash's Butterfree appeared exceptionally excited, dancing through the air and offering friendly greetings to the members of its species they encountered along the way.
"It seems Butterfree really likes it here," Misty said with a smile, watching it fly joyfully.
"Yeah, the environment is indeed perfect for it," Brock agreed.
Ash watched Butterfree, feeling happy for his friend. Butterfree was one of the first Pokémon he had caught, having evolved all the way from a weak Caterpie. It had accompanied him through countless battles and adventures, and their bond was deep.
One day, as they crossed a hillside covered in blooms, Butterfree suddenly became restless. It circled in the air, peering toward a specific direction while letting out sharp, expectant cries.
"What's wrong, Butterfree?" Ash asked with concern, following its gaze.
In the flower field nearby, a swarm of Butterfree was performing a courtship dance. Among that swarm, one individual was particularly striking its wings weren't the usual white, but shimmered with a brilliant, rainbow-like luster!
It was an incredibly rare Shiny Butterfree! It was the very same mate Ash's Butterfree had found in the original story. The Shiny Butterfree moved with grace. As it danced under the sun, it scattered scales like a rain of rainbow light, beautiful beyond words.
Ash's Butterfree watched it intently, its eyes filled with admiration and longing.
"It's a Shiny Butterfree!" Misty exclaimed.
"It looks like your Butterfree is deeply attracted to her," Brock chuckled.
Unable to restrain itself any longer, Ash's Butterfree flew into the swarm and began to dance around the Shiny Butterfree, trying its best to show off. Though it wasn't a Shiny variant, Ash's meticulous care and numerous battles had given it a robust and graceful poise, and its eyes were bright and determined.
The two Butterfree met in mid-air, their dances gradually falling into sync. The scales scattered from their wings intertwined, creating an even more dreamlike halo. They circled each other, letting out joyful cries as if sharing their feelings.
Clearly, Ash's Butterfree had successfully won the favor of the Shiny Butterfree.
Seeing this, Ash felt both happy for Butterfree and a faint pang of reluctance. He understood that Butterfree had found an important life partner.
The two Butterfree flew down together to stand before Ash. Ash's Butterfree nudged his hand affectionately with its head, then looked at its shiny partner, its eyes showing both attachment and a sense of pleading.
Ash knelt down and gently stroked Butterfree's head, his voice warm and firm. "I understand, Butterfree. You've found a partner who is very important to you, haven't you?"
Butterfree nodded vigorously, letting out a cry of reluctant parting.
Ash smiled. Though he felt the sadness of saying goodbye, his heart was filled with blessings. "It's okay. This is your happiness and your choice. You should pursue your own life and live freely with your partner in this beautiful garden."
He took out Butterfree's Poké Ball but did not recall it. Instead, he continued, "We shall part ways for now. But this is definitely not a final goodbye! I will keep getting stronger and see more of this vast world. I believe that one day in the future, we will meet again in some corner of the world!"
Ash's gaze moved from the beautiful Shiny Butterfree back to his partner, and he made a solemn promise. "At that time, if you're still willing to travel with me, I will definitely come to get you! I'll take you and your partner along, and we'll see all the sights the world has to offer together! That is our promise!"
Butterfree seemed to understand Ash's words, tears of emotion shimmering in its eyes. It nudged Ash's cheek one last time, expressing its gratitude and reluctance. The Shiny Butterfree also flew a bit closer, letting out a soft cry toward Ash as if saying thank you.
Misty and Brock watched the touching scene from the side, silently wishing Butterfree well.
Finally, amid the fluttering scales that looked like blessed light, Ash's Butterfree and its shiny partner flew up side by side. They circled three times in the air as if making a final farewell before flying together toward the depths of the flower field, toward their own free future.
Ash stood in place, watching their silhouettes vanish into the horizon before slowly retracting his gaze, his hand tightly clutching the now-empty Poké Ball.
"Goodbye, Butterfree... be happy," he whispered in his heart.

Carrying blessings for their partner and expectations for the future, Ash, Misty, and Brock set off once more. This parting was not an end, but the beginning of an even better reunion.
In the next chapter, they will challenge the Saffron Gym, and one of the female leads, Sabrina, is about to debut!
