Chapter 2 - Chapter 3: The School Dance Dilemma  ‎

The annual Willow Creek High School dance was fast approaching, and with it came a wave of nervous energy. Wamurima, who usually avoided such events, found himself contemplating the possibility of asking Anya. He imagined them dancing, her hand in his, the music swirling around them. But the thought of rejection, of misinterpreting her friendly gestures, made his stomach churn.

‎ He confided in his best friend, Leo, a whirlwind of energy and questionable fashion choices. "What if she says no, Leo? What if I've read all this wrong?"

‎ Leo, mid-bite into a giant sandwich, just shrugged. "Dude, you've been practically attached at the hip with Anya lately. If she's not interested, she's been doing a really good job of pretending. Just go for it!"

‎ Meanwhile, Anya was having her own internal debate. She'd noticed Wamurima's shy glances, the way he seemed to brighten whenever she was around. She'd even found herself sketching his profile when she thought no one was looking. But was he interested? Or was she just another friend?

‎ The day before the dance, Wamurima saw Anya by her locker. Taking a deep breath, he walked over. "Hey, Anya."

‎ She turned, her usual bright smile a little hesitant. "Hi, Wamurima."

‎ "So," he began, his voice a little shaky, "the dance is tomorrow. I was wondering… if maybe you'd want to go with me?" He braced himself for the worst.

‎ Anya's eyes widened slightly, then softened into a genuine, radiant smile. "I'd love to, Wamurima. I was hoping you'd ask."

‎ A wave of relief and pure joy washed over Wamurima. He grinned, a wide, uninhibited smile. "Great! I'll, uh, pick you up around seven?"

‎ "Seven sounds perfect," she replied, her gaze lingering on his. The unspoken understanding between them had just taken a beautiful, tangible step forward. The dance, which had seemed like a daunting prospect, now felt like the beginning of something wonderful.
