Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Name of Morax Conceals Twin Gods and a Life-and-Death contract!

[Book Title]: The Name of Morax Conceals Twin Gods and a Life-and-Death contract!

[Author]: Lovia

[Main Text]:

It is common knowledge in Liyue that Rex Lapis, titled "Morax," holds the authority over Geo and created the currency that circulates through all things—Mora.

However, when the Emperor travels, he often carries no Mora. This "carefree" behavior frequently leaves mortals dumbfounded, simply attributing it to the realm of Gods, which is beyond the comprehension of ordinary people.

Little do they know, this hides a secret that would make anyone who hears it weep!

Do you all know that the name "Morax" was originally not the name of just one person?

According to a certain slip of the tongue by a Caretaker of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor who wishes to remain anonymous after being drunk (it's said he was plied with Snezhnayan Fire-Water by a certain Harbinger), combined with research from many ancient fragments, the truth might be shocking.

The original "Mora" and "Kexi" were two entirely different Gods!

Ancient texts once said: At the beginning of antiquity, there were twin deities, one named "Mora" and the other named "Kexi."

"Mora" presided over creation, smelting, and the source of wealth. With a lively temperament, a brilliant golden river flowed from their fingertips—the true "turning stone into gold." All Mora currency was born out of thin air from their divine power, infinite and inexhaustible.

"Kexi," on the other hand, presided over contracts, martial arts, and the foundation of the earth. With a steady and determined temperament, he was the Lord of Rock, protecting all directions.

The two were inseparable, complementing each other, and were even a pair of lovers who shared a deep connection.

Mora forged prosperity, and Kexi guarded order; they were a match made in heaven.

However, the Archon War broke out, and disasters spread everywhere.

The Way of Heaven is ruthless, and the laws are clear: under the same authority, only one God can exist in the world.

In other words, "Mora" and "Kexi" were destined to have only one remain!

"Mora" could not bear to see their beloved "Kexi" annihilated and also knew that the land of Liyue needed the protection and power of contracts from "Kexi" even more.

At the final moment, "Mora" made a shocking move.

They did not fight "Kexi" to the death but instead chose self-sacrifice, merging their own divine soul into "Kexi's" body!

At the cost of their own complete dissipation, they exchanged for "Kexi's" survival and the integrity of his power.

"From now on, you are me, and I am you. Liyue can be without the spendthrift Mora, but it cannot be without the rock-solid Kexi."

"Live on, for both of our sakes."

Thus, "Kexi" survived and inherited some of "Mora's" traits and memories. Their divine statuses were forcibly merged, sharing one divine body, known as "Morax."

This fusion was earth-shattering. The resulting "Morax" possessed the traits of both but was no longer completely either one—a brand new existence!

That is the current God of Liyue, Rex Lapis!

However, though the fusion was successful, the trauma remains forever.

However, the divine power to create Mora was the unique origin of "Mora," which vanished forever with their consciousness. Although "Morax" gained the name, he could no longer generate a single real Mora out of thin air!

The brilliant gold coins that "Mora" once threw about freely have become a thing of the past.

Since then, "Morax" has often fallen into silence.

He protects Liyue, establishes contracts, and casts down Jueyun Chili Spears, but in those golden stone-like eyes, there is always a trace of loneliness and nostalgia that no one can understand.

He began to unconsciously imitate "Mora's" habits, especially "Mora's" style of "never carrying money because it can be created at any time."

However, the imitation fell short.

"Mora" did not carry money because they were the source, while "Morax" does not carry money... because he truly has none and truly cannot create it anymore!

This is the root cause of why Lord "Zhongli" wanders the mortal world with empty pockets—it is not that he is unwilling, but that he truly cannot! It is the deepest imitation and mourning for his lost lover.

As for the Mora currently in circulation?

Ha!

What "Morax" can do is mostly mobilize and drive the Mora currency already existing in the world, or rely on "Kexi's" pinnacle control over the Geo element to forge and transform ordinary rocks, giving them form and simulating "Mora" for circulation.

In other words, the vast majority of "Mora" circulating on the Teyvat continent today is not true "God-made gold" but "forged" rock currency by Morax!

It's just that its design, weight, and the tiny bit of divine power it contains are no different from real Mora, so it can circulate without hindrance.

(Note: It is unknown whether this theory is true or false. If true, the economic system of Liyue might be in danger of being overturned. Readers, please judge for yourselves and spread with caution!)

Since the fusion, "Kexi" (the current Morax) has always been in an indescribable state of depression and "absent-mindedness."

He often falls into long silences, his gaze sweeping across the streets of Liyue as if pursuing a phantom that has long since ceased to exist.

It is reported that "Morax" often sits deep within the Guyun Stone Forest, alone, stroking a few real ancient Mora for days on end.

This is called: Mora has passed while Kexi remains; the golden dream wakes, and stone mimics gold.

Childe Zhongli goes out without carrying Mora?

That is not being carefree, it is... firstly, seeing Mora is like seeing an old friend, causing complex emotions. He cannot bear and is unwilling to easily use something that seems to be formed from "Mora's" remains.

Secondly, creating real Mora requires using the original power belonging to "Mora," which has fallen silent with their passing; forcibly mobilizing it only adds to the sadness.

Thus, we have the strange sight we see today: the God who created Mora walks through Liyue Harbor paved with Mora, yet is often penniless, calmly sending the bills to the Qixing.

It is not intentional difficulty, but simply because... the existence that once taught him the meaning of "value" and "circulation" has turned into his title and is no longer obtainable.

This is the truth behind Morax's thousand years of loneliness.

This is the root cause of the Emperor's mortal wanderings without carrying Mora.
