Chapter 74 - Connected Nodes

Chapter 74 — Connected Nodes

The path didn't stay stable.

Arjun felt it the moment he took another step.

Not resistance.

Not pressure.

Shift.

The line ahead of him—

fractured.

Split.

Not into two.

Into many.

Faint paths overlapping.

Diverging.

Intersecting.

For a moment—

he stopped.

Because this wasn't guidance.

This was—

structure.

Behind him—

the others watched.

They couldn't see it.

But they felt something change.

Kabir spoke first.

"…It's not pulling you forward anymore."

Arjun didn't answer.

Because forward—

no longer existed.

The signal pulsed again.

Not one direction.

Multiple.

Layered.

Like a network—

trying to resolve itself.

Aarav frowned.

"…What's happening?"

Arjun finally spoke.

"…It's not one path."

A pause.

"…It never was."

The words settled heavily.

Because that meant—

everything they followed before—

was simplified.

Controlled.

Kabir's expression darkened.

"…Then the zone…"

"…was filtering it," Arjun said.

Silence.

That realization changed everything.

Inside—

they were guided.

Here—

they were exposed.

The ground shifted again.

This time—

visibly.

Not cracking.

Revealing.

Lines.

Faint.

Running beneath the surface.

Not random.

Connected.

Anaya stepped closer.

"…Those aren't cracks."

Oru spoke.

"…They're pathways."

Kabir's eyes narrowed.

"…No…"

A pause.

"…They're links."

That word landed differently.

Because links—

implied connection.

Not within the zone.

Beyond it.

Arjun moved slightly to the side.

The lines beneath him—

reacted.

Not to his movement.

To his position.

Several paths brightened.

Others dimmed.

Aarav watched carefully.

"…It's adjusting."

Kabir shook his head.

"…No."

"…It's connecting."

The difference mattered.

Because adjustment was response.

Connection—

was structure.

The signal pulsed again.

One path—

rose above the others.

Clearer.

Not because it was stronger.

Because it aligned.

With him.

Arjun exhaled slowly.

"…These aren't paths."

A pause.

"…They're nodes."

Silence.

Because that word—

changed scale.

Nodes weren't routes.

They were—

points.

Points that connected.

A network.

Anaya spoke carefully.

"…Then each zone…"

Kabir finished.

"…Is just one node."

Aarav looked around.

"…Then how many are there?"

No answer came.

Because the ground—

answered instead.

The lines expanded.

Spreading outward.

Beyond what they could see.

Far.

Too far.

Not dozens.

Not hundreds.

More.

Oru's voice remained calm.

"…This isn't a map."

A pause.

"…It's a system."

Not the one they knew.

Something bigger.

Older.

Arjun looked ahead.

The aligned node pulsed again.

Calling him.

But now—

he understood.

It wasn't leading him forward.

It was—

connecting him elsewhere.

Kabir stepped back slightly.

"…If that's true…"

"…then moving isn't progression."

Aarav finished quietly.

"…It's transfer."

Silence followed.

Because that meant—

every step forward—

was never deeper.

It was—

movement between nodes.

Between zones.

Between controlled spaces.

Anaya's voice dropped.

"…Then we were never exploring."

A pause.

"…We were being routed."

The signal pulsed again.

Sharper.

Focused.

The node ahead—

stabilized.

Waiting.

Arjun didn't hesitate.

Because now—

this wasn't unknown.

This was—

structure.

And for the first time—

he wasn't following the system.

He was—

seeing it.

He stepped forward.

The node activated.

The ground beneath him—

disappeared.

Not collapsed.

Not broken.

Transferred.

And in the next instant—

he was gone.
