Chapter 21 - Chapter 21—Our identity

The base was silent. Not the usual quiet of rest

But the kind that came before something important.

Elias stood at the center of the room, his presence alone enough to draw everyone's attention. The others gathered slowly Riven leaning against the wall, Serah wiping her hands clean, Nyx appearing from the shadows, and finally Kael and Lucien.

No one spoke.

Elias looked at them for a long moment.

Measuring.

Deciding.

Then

"It's time."

Lucien raised an eyebrow slightly.

"For what?"

Elias didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he turned, walking toward a table covered with neatly folded fabric.

"You've grown strong," he said calmly. "Stronger than most at your age."

Riven smirked faintly.

"Understatement."

Elias ignored him.

"But strength without identity," he continued, "is temporary."

He stopped.

Then turned back to them.

"We are no longer a group."

Then paused.

"We are something that will be known."

Silence filled the room.

Even Lucien didn't interrupt this time.

Elias spoke the name slowly.

"Noctis Veyr."

The words settled heavily in the air.

Nyx's eyes flickered slightly.

Serah tilted her head.

Lucien repeated it under his breath.

"Noctis Veyr."

Kael said nothing but he understood.

Night and something deeper, Authority, Presence.

Elias continued

"It means those who move in the dark… and reshape what stands in the light."

Riven let out a quiet chuckle.

"That fits."

Elias gestured to the table.

"Then wear it."

Serah stepped forward first, unfolding one of the uniforms.

Blue.

Deep.

Almost black in low light.

Clean lines.

Fitted.

Designed for movement not appearance.

Silver accents ran along the edges, subtle but precise. The material itself carried faint Aether reinforcement light, but effective.

Lucien picked one up, raising an eyebrow.

"This is new."

Elias nodded.

"Custom made."

Nyx ran her fingers across the fabric.

"Light."

"Durable," Serah added after inspecting it.

Kael picked his up last.

He studied it quietly.

No unnecessary design, no weakness in structure.

It matched Elias.

Simple.

Efficient and dangerous.

Minutes later they stood again.

Different.

The blue uniforms gave them a unified presence.

Not flashy.

But unmistakable.

Lucien adjusted his collar slightly.

"Feels weird."

Riven smirked.

"You'll live."

Serah rolled her shoulders.

"It's good."

Nyx said nothing—but didn't remove hers.

Kael looked at the group.

Then at Elias.

"We stand out now."

Elias nodded.

"Yes."

Then a pause.

"That is the point."

The air shifted back to business.

Elias stepped forward.

"Velmora."

The name alone changed the mood.

Kael's eyes sharpened slightly.

Lucien's expression grew more focused.

Elias continued

"A town built on Aether trade. Controlled. Structured."

Riven crossed his arms.

"And owned."

Elias nodded.

"By a man named Darius Veyne."

Silence.

Serah frowned slightly.

"Strong?"

Elias answered without hesitation.

"Yes."

Lucien smirked faintly.

"Good."

But this time it wasn't excitement.

It was readiness.

Elias looked directly at Kael and Lucien.

"You will go."

Kael nodded once.

Lucien didn't argue.

Elias stepped closer.

His presence pressed down on them not forcefully, but undeniably.

"This is not training."

Neither of them reacted.

They already knew.

"If you fail," Elias continued, "you die."

Simple.

Clear.

True.

Lucien exhaled slowly.

"Then we won't fail."

Kael spoke next.

"We'll observe first."

Elias nodded.

"Good."

Then he stepped back.

"Leave at first light."

The next morning came quietly.

No ceremony.

No farewell.

Just purpose.

Kael adjusted his blade at his side.

Lucien rested his hand on his sword.

Both now dressed in deep blue.

Marked.

Not as individuals but as something greater.

As they began walking

Lucien glanced sideways.

"Noctis Veyr, huh?"

Kael didn't look at him.

"Yes."

Lucien smirked slightly.

"Sounds like trouble."

Kael's voice remained calm.

"It will be."

The road stretched ahead unknown and dangerous.

And for the first time they weren't just surviving.

They were moving forward with intent. With identity and with purpose.
