Chapter 3 - Scene: Hachiman Comforts Shizuka After Another Failed Blind Date

The dim glow of the restaurant's evening lights reflected off the glass, illuminating Shizuka Hiratsuka's flushed face. She swirled the last of her drink, lips pressed tight, frustration simmering beneath her composed exterior. Another blind date, another disappointment. She had hoped this one would be different, but clearly, her standards—or rather, her taste—didn't match anyone willing to step up.

Hachiman slid into the booth across from her, casual, confident, but with a presence that immediately drew attention. His new aura—calm, steady, yet unmistakably commanding—was hard to ignore.

"You look like you just survived a war," he said, voice dry but teasing, letting his eyes sweep over her. "Or… maybe you just dated a complete idiot."

Shizuka blinked, caught off guard. "H-Hachiman? What are you—?"

He smirked. "Seriously… blind dates? All of them? And you came out alive? That's impressive… but also kind of pathetic, if I'm honest. The guys? Absolute disasters. Weird tastes, shallow, couldn't keep up with you if their lives depended on it. Pathetic."

Shizuka glared at him, cheeks warm, half-annoyed, half-relieved. "You don't have to be so blunt, you know."

"I like blunt," Hachiman said lightly. He leaned closer, voice lowering to a quiet, seriously confident tone. "But I also like honesty. So here it is… you don't need any of them. None of them deserve you. And if no one else wants you… I'll take you."

Her eyes widened. "You… take me?"

"Yes," he said, calm, steady, sincere. The teasing edge didn't disappear, but it was softened by something deeper—determination, certainty, and an almost protective warmth. "You're independent. Feisty. Strong. Smart. I like that about you. And I mean it. I'm serious, sensei."

Shizuka swallowed, heart thudding, unsure whether to laugh or protest. "Hachiman… you're… bold."

"I am." His gaze was steady, unflinching, yet gentle. "And I don't say these things lightly. If I'm offering… it's because I mean it. You don't need anyone else to validate how remarkable you are."

She let out a small sigh, the tension in her shoulders loosening slightly. Hachiman noticed her relief and nodded subtly, as if reaffirming a silent promise.

"You're not drinking alone tonight," he added, reaching over to signal the waiter for another round. "I'll keep you company. Besides, I need to make sure you survive this date apocalypse in one piece."

Shizuka's lips twitched at the corner. "You're… not exactly the typical comforting type."

"Comforting is boring," he said, voice low, smirking. "I prefer effective. And effective is what I do best."

They talked quietly, Hachiman teasing the failed date mercilessly, mocking the man's clueless attempts to impress her, his shallow compliments, and odd tastes. Yet the teasing never crossed the line; it was sharp, clever, and meant to lift her spirits rather than humiliate.

Protective and Serious Side

As the evening wore on, Hachiman subtly ensured she didn't drink too much, keeping a watchful eye for any hazards—on the street, in the restaurant, anywhere. His presence was calm but vigilant, a mixture of teasing companion and guardian.

"You're safe with me," he said, as they stepped out into the night. "I'll make sure you get home without incident. And no one will bother you."

Shizuka smiled faintly, leaning slightly on him for support. Hachiman noted the warmth in her expression, the subtle trust she placed in him—even if she didn't realize it fully.

When they reached her apartment, he finally paused, voice soft but firm. "So… think about it. My offer still stands. If you ever feel like the world is full of idiots, or blind dates that are too blind… you know where to find me."

She looked at him, a mixture of surprise, amusement, and something warmer in her eyes. "Hachiman… you're… really something else."

He smirked, letting the quiet night settle between them. "I know."
