"Hey, help me up!" Aladdin screamed with desperation in his voice. He clung to the broken stair of the Cave of Wonders as it collapsed due to molten magma below. He looked toward the old man with crooked teeth and a tattered black robe.
"Throw me the lamp," the masked man replied in a gruff voice, gesturing for him to hand over the lamp in his hand.
"TCHH!! And here I thought that you were a kind old man. This is what you want, right?" Aladdin said, taking a golden Arabian lamp out of his pocket and waving it in the old man's face, whom he knew was Jafar, secretly hiding his identity.
"Since you don't want to help me, then I might as well take it with me to the other side."
"ABU!"
Aladdin stuffed the lamp back into his pocket and screamed at his monkey.
Abu leapt into his arms. To everyone's shock, Aladdin let go of the broken stair and fell into the pit of molten magma.
"NOO!! YOU FOOL!!" Jafar let out a gut-wrenching scream.
The parrot, Lago, who had been observing the scene intently, also couldn't help but let out a sharp scream. "NOO!! OUR lAMP!!"
The staircase crumbled into nothingness and collapsed onto itself, reverting to an ordinary, windy desert. A broken golden scarab landed beside the screaming Jafar and the parrot as they collapsed onto their knees on the ground.
"I KNEW IT!! I KNEW IT!! THAT GOOD-FOR-NOTHING, NO-GOOD, NOTHING, BOTTOM-FEEDER THIEF—" Before Lago could complete his sentence, Jafar slapped it to the side and quickly reached out for the golden scarab, trying to put it together again so he could get back his genie lamp.
Meanwhile, deep within the desert, in the space of the collapsed Cave of Wonders, a flying carpet had saved Aladdin and Abu during their fall and brought them safely to the sandy ground.
"Thanks, carpet," Aladdin said with relief, looking at the carpet, which made amusing human gestures as it nodded and waved its edges at him, as though to say, "Don't mention it."
Abu emerged from his jacket and collapsed on the ground. He opened his mouth and made a few grunts directed at Aladdin.
"Oh, stop complaining, Abu! Remember that I promised two buckets of freshly plucked bananas and a servant to feed them to you if we survived this," Aladdin responded with a snort.
He brought the golden lamp from his pocket and looked at it intently.
He wasn't the real Aladdin. One night, after coming home from work, he found one of his old CDs about Aladdin, the 1992 animated movie and decided to watch it. He wished to become Aladdin and meet the Genie who could grant him any wish in existence, to restart his life, before he fell asleep.
Soon after, he found himself as an eleven-year-old Aladdin trying to survive on the streets of Agrabah.
Aladdin had already made a name for himself as a thief and an orphan, forming a surprisingly large number of connections along the way. Besides coping with his low self-esteem and the habits picked up on the streets, he found little he could actually change.
The only problem he had was instilling a more disciplined character in Abu, whom he had captured on the day he awakened, after trying to steal from him with his travelling circus of thieves. Although it was difficult, there was a connection between them that just clicked, making Abu listen and obey his orders.
The only negative event that emerged was that he was chased by the circus of thieves for two weeks before they gave up and left the Kingdom to another to secure the loot they had stolen.
To avoid derailing the plot, he kept up Aladdin's habits until meeting Princess Jasmine. Using his improved charisma, he built a deeper relationship with her before being arrested by guards sent by Jafar, who needed him to retrieve the genie lantern from the Cave of Wonders.
Initially, he planned to leave the Cave of Wonders with the magic carpet, but that would derail the plot to cause an unexpected event that would make Jafar an even greater threat if he felt threatened enough to use his magical abilities to retaliate, thereby putting the entire Agrabah in danger or escape to become an even greater menace.
Who knows how that would change the world and affect his relationship with Jasmine if anything were to happen to her or her father?
So, he let events play out, faking his death to set Jafar at ease and avoid being pursued when he returned.
Most of all, Aladdin knew how to get out of the collapsed space of the Cave of Wonders with the genie, so he wasn't worried about being trapped inside.
Abu got up from the ground and climbed onto his shoulders.
Even the magic carpet came up from behind him.
Without further ado, Aladdin suppressed his excitement and rubbed the golden lamp.
Instantly, the lamp shook and jerked in his arms as countless fireworks exploded around it and from the hole.
Abu and the magic carpet jerked backwards in surprise, distancing themselves from Aladdin.
Aladdin tightened his grip on the lantern and pointed it upwards.
'It's coming,' Aladdin shouted inwardly.
A brilliant blue smoke shot out of the lamp and exploded skyward. A massive blue humanoid being formed from the trails of blue smoke and stretched its hands outward.
The Genie of the Lamp!
"AAAAHH!! OY! Ten thousand years will give ya such a crick in the neck!"
Aladdin observed the Genie with genuine interest as he sat on the rock. Rather than interrupting him, Aladdin chose to watch silently. It was one thing observing the genie's appearance through a screen; however, it was another to watch him in real life.
The Genie pulled out his head and spun it around as he yelled, "Whoa! Does it feel good to be outta there!" He grabbed the lamp and used it as a microphone. "Nice to be back… ladies and gentlemen. Hi, what's your name?"
The Genie lowered his body and pointed the microphone at Aladdin.
"A..laddin," Aladdin responded, sticking to the script of the movie so he could get out of the Cave of Wonders without making a wish.
A bright neon light with Aladdin's name on it appeared in thin air, just as Aladdin remembered.
"Hello, Aladdin. Nice to have you on the show. Can we call you 'AL'? Or maybe just a 'Din?' How about a 'Laddin'?" the Genie said, flashing a bright smile with the tone of a TV presenter.
"I would like it if you stick with Aladdin," Aladdin responded.
Genie paused. "Then Aladdin it is. I have to say, you are composed, sharp, and, if I dare say, born to be a star." The microphone reverted to a lamp as countless fireworks exploded behind Genie.
Aladdin held Abu, who had jumped into his jacket, frightened by the entire event.
"Hey, rug man! Haven't seen you in a millennium! Slap me some tassel, yo!"
The carpet flew over and high-fived the Genie with its edges as though they had known each other for millennia.
"Say, you're a lot smaller than my last master," Genie refocused his attention back on Aladdin and pressed his hand over him, measuring his height. "Either that, or I'm getting bigger. Look at me from the side… do I look different to you?"
For his plan to work, Aladdin stayed loyal to the scene he remembered from the movie.
As he responded, he observed the Genie introduce himself once more with his famous lines and explain the wishes before singing his famous entrance song.
[Can your friends do this?! Can your friends do that?!]
[Sorry, I couldn't help myself! I won't write the entire scene; I will only be writing the ones that matter to the story.]
Aladdin stealthily bobbed his head to the beat.
Then the moment of truth arrived. Just as he was about to walk away with Abu after scoffing at the Genie's attempt to grant any wish with a few restrictions, the Genie blocked his path forward.
"Excuse me? Are you looking at me? Did you rub my lamp? Did you wake me up? Did you bring me here? And all of a sudden you're walking away from me?" Genie said furiously.
As he spoke, he became even more furious.
"I don't think so, not right now. You're getting your wishes, so sit down!"
The Genie forced them all to sit on the magic carpet before transforming into a stewardess with lots of arms pointing at the exits.
"In case of emergency, the exits are here, here, here, here, here, here, here—anywhere! Keep your arms and legs inside the carpet! Weee'rrreeee… outta here!"
Aladdin felt a strange force field around the carpet as he tightly held onto its rumpled edges. He witnessed the scenes he had missed from the movie as the flying carpet tore through the space of the Cave of Wonders and flew out of the sand skyward into the night sky.
"Wow!" Aladdin muttered as he gazed at the clear night sky filled with countless stars.
"Impressive, isn't it?" Genie, still dressed as a stewardess, appeared over his shoulder and said with wiggling, bouncing eyebrows.
"Yeah, it is," Aladdin responded sincerely.
Through all his years of being a thief, he had meticulously planned for this event, and now that it was unfolding before his eyes, he couldn't help but feel a sense of relief fill his heart.
"Hold on tight! We are about to land!" Genie said, holding onto his cowboy hat, hovering above his head, which had appeared out of thin air, as an oasis in the middle of the desert began coming into view.
The carpet landed in the middle of greenery filled with bushes and tall trees, with a lake in the distance.
"Thank you for choosing Magic Carpet Travel for all your travel needs. Don't stand until the rug has come to a complete stop!" Genie said with a coquettish voice.
The carpet formed a small staircase for them to step down from.
"Thank you!! Goodbye!! Goodbye!!" Genie said. Then he transformed back to his normal form. He looked at Aladdin with a smirk and said, "Well, how about now, Mr Doubting Mustafa?"
"I have to say, I'm impressed. Now let's talk about my three wishes?" Aladdin said with an impressed look.
Sitting on his shoulders, Abu also nodded with an impressed expression.
Genie plucked at his ears with his hand and quickly responded, "Dost my ears deceive me? You're down by one wish, boy!"
Aladdin smiled mischievously. "Oh! I never actually wished to get out of the cave. You did that on your own," he responded, following Aladdin's original words beat for beat.
"Well, don't I feel just sheepish? All right, you baaaddd boy, but no more freebies," Genie transformed into a sheep and responded sheepishly, reflecting on himself after realising that he had been tricked.
"That's fair. So, my three wishes. I want them to be good," Aladdin said, rubbing his chin with a thoughtful expression.
Abu joined him in contemplation.
Aladdin turned to the Genie, who was now lying in a hammock between two trees, and suddenly asked,
"What would you wish for?"
"Me?" Genie pointed at himself, his expression and tone filled with surprise. "No one has asked that question before."
"Well, in my case… ah! Forget it!" He got out of his hammock and waved his hand at Aladdin.
"What is it? Tell me," Aladdin responded, his tone and expression tinged with anticipation.
"Freedom," Genie suddenly responded.
"You're a prisoner?" Aladdin replied, his tone and expression filled with surprise.
"Yeah. It's all part and parcel of the whole genie gig," Genie responded.
Suddenly, he grew enormous, with detailed bodybuilder-sculpted muscles on his blue physique, and said with a resounding voice, "Phenomenal cosmic powers!"
Then he shrank into the lamp's cramped space. The lid over the lamp vanished, allowing Aladdin to see through it.
"Itty-bitty living space."
