"That I didn't know specifically. That you were recovering from the second layer and the third was still ahead." Daven paused. "He thought it would take significantly longer. The second layer knocked you back three days. He was calculating from that."
"He didn't account for the plants," Faelyn said.
"He couldn't have. He knows contamination. He doesn't know what three hundred years of root infrastructure looks like when it's finally allowed to do what it's been trying to do." Daven looked at her directly. "He's running out of ground, blessed one. Every time he finds a new angle there's less underneath it than the last one."
"I know."
"But he won't stop."
"No," Faelyn agreed. "He regroups. He always regroups." She looked at Daven. "But the things he's regrouping around keep getting smaller. There's a point where there's nothing left to regroup around."
"I'm watching him," Daven said. "I'll tell you when I see the next move before he makes it."
