Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The First Real Match

At 3 p.m., the financial district of Yun City entered one of the most delicate periods of the day, when surface activity remained unchanged while deeper movements of capital quietly began to shift beneath it.

From the outside, everything looked the same as usual, with traffic flowing steadily and people moving through the streets, but decisions made during this time often carried far more weight than they appeared to.

Ethan Cole's car stopped in front of a building that did not stand out, lacking any obvious branding or heavy security, yet those familiar with the area understood that such locations often controlled stable and critical capital channels.

He stepped out and entered the lobby without hesitation, and after a brief confirmation of his name, he was allowed through immediately, indicating that the meeting had already been arranged in advance.

As the elevator moved upward, Ethan remained calm and focused, choosing not to speculate on the other party's attitude but instead organizing his own understanding of the situation.

This was no longer an observation or a test but a direct engagement, and at this level, no one wasted time on unnecessary words.

When the meeting room door opened, three people were already seated inside, and although they differed in age, their presence carried the same steady sense of control that came from experience.

After Ethan sat down, no one engaged in small talk, and the brief silence allowed the conversation to move directly to the point.

One of them spoke first, stating in an even tone that his recent actions had been rapid, not as criticism but as confirmation.

Ethan acknowledged this without elaboration, understanding that explanations held little value in such discussions.

Another added that his capital flow and placements had begun to affect pricing structures, and that such shifts would not go unnoticed.

Ethan responded calmly, pointing out that if a system could be influenced so easily, then the issue lay in the structure rather than the variable itself.

The room fell briefly silent before the man in the center spoke, shifting the discussion to what truly mattered, which was what Ethan intended to do next.

Ethan answered simply that he would continue, making his position clear without needing further explanation.

They accepted the answer but pointed out that continued expansion required structure, otherwise it would not hold.

Ethan looked at them and asked directly what they were prepared to offer, and they responded that they could provide capital, channels, and risk buffering to ensure stability.

Knowing that such support would come with conditions, Ethan asked about the cost, and the answer was straightforward, as they expected him to enter the system and operate within its rules.

The atmosphere shifted at that moment, becoming more focused as the discussion turned into a decision.

Ethan considered it briefly before replying in a calm tone that it sounded reasonable but did not suit him.

All three of them turned their attention to him more fully.

When asked why, Ethan explained that if his goal had been to find a place, he could have stopped already, but what he was pursuing now was control rather than placement.

The room fell quiet again as the man in the center observed him for a moment before nodding slightly and suggesting a different approach.

When Ethan asked what that meant, the answer came in a single word.

"A wager."

They explained that he could continue expanding without interference, but if he failed to stabilize his structure within thirty days, he would have to enter their system.

Ethan did not agree immediately and instead asked what would happen if he succeeded, and the response was that he would be left to proceed in his own way without interference.

After a brief pause, Ethan agreed without adding anything further.

The conversation ended without ceremony, and as he left the room and entered the quiet corridor, the absence of words carried more weight than any conclusion.
