Chapter 141 - Chapter 141: The Thing Beyond the Crack

The sky had stopped moving.

Not because the wind had died.

Not because time had frozen.

It was because the universe itself seemed to be holding its breath.

Kael stood beneath the enormous crack in the heavens, staring into the impossible darkness beyond it.

Countless stars could be seen through the opening.

But they were wrong.

They weren't shining.

They were dying.

One after another, entire stars flickered out.

Not exploding.

Not collapsing.

Simply disappearing.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"The Hunger didn't do that."

Aetherion's voice was unusually quiet.

"No."

Eryx stepped beside Kael.

"Then what did?"

For several seconds, there was no answer.

Then—

Something moved.

Far beyond the crack.

Something so enormous that Kael couldn't see its entire body.

At first, he thought it was another universe.

Then he realized it was moving.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

Toward them.

Kael felt the Hunger inside his Core react.

It wasn't attacking.

It wasn't trying to consume anything.

It was afraid.

Kael froze.

"You feel it too."

The Hunger answered from within him.

Not words.

A sensation.

A memory.

Fear.

Kael clenched his fist.

"What are you afraid of?"

The Hunger trembled.

Then a single thought entered Kael's mind.

RUN.

Kael's expression changed.

The First Hunger had never feared anything.

It had consumed energy.

Worlds.

Creation itself.

Yet now—

It was terrified.

Eryx noticed Kael's expression.

"What did it tell you?"

Kael looked toward the crack.

"It told me to run."

Eryx's eyes widened.

Before either brother could say anything else—

The crack expanded.

CRACK.

A second fracture appeared beside it.

Then a third.

Then hundreds.

The entire sky began breaking apart like glass.

Aetherion suddenly shouted.

"KAEL!"

Kael looked up.

The enormous shape beyond the crack had reached the edge.

And now he could finally see part of it.

An eye.

Not an ordinary eye.

It was larger than entire galaxies.

Its pupil contained countless collapsing universes.

Kael felt something stare directly into his soul.

Then—

The eye blinked.

Every star in the visible universe went dark.

Kael's Core screamed.

He dropped to one knee.

"AAAGH!"

Eryx grabbed his shoulder.

"Kael!"

White light erupted from Kael's body.

Black darkness followed.

Silver transformation energy wrapped around both.

For the first time since Kael had mastered all three forces—

They reacted without his command.

Creation.

Destruction.

Transformation.

All three were trying to protect him.

Aetherion whispered in disbelief.

"It recognizes you."

Kael forced himself upright.

"What does?"

Aetherion didn't answer immediately.

Then his voice became barely audible.

"The thing beyond the crack."

Kael stared at him.

"You know what it is."

Aetherion remained silent.

Kael's expression hardened.

"You know."

"I remember fragments."

"Then tell me."

Aetherion's voice trembled.

"It existed before the Firstborn."

Kael's eyes widened.

"Before the Origin?"

"Yes."

Eryx stepped forward.

"Before creation?"

Aetherion looked at him.

"Before the concept of creation."

Silence.

Kael looked back toward the enormous eye.

Something ancient was staring at him.

Something that didn't belong to his universe.

Something that didn't belong to any universe.

Aetherion continued.

"The First Hunger was created because the Origin was producing more energy than reality could contain."

Kael remembered.

He had created the Hunger to consume that excess.

To save everyone.

But now he understood something else.

The Hunger hadn't been created because reality was becoming too powerful.

It had been created because something was already approaching.

Kael whispered.

"I wasn't trying to create a weapon."

"No," Aetherion said.

"You were building a warning system."

Kael's eyes widened.

The Hunger inside his Core pulsed.

A memory surfaced.

His younger self.

Standing before an endless ocean of stars.

Terrified.

Desperate.

Surrounded by people he had promised to protect.

And behind him—

A shadow.

Watching.

Waiting.

Kael grabbed his head.

"I saw it."

Eryx caught him.

"Saw what?"

"The first time I created the Hunger."

Kael looked toward the crack.

"It was already there."

The enormous eye slowly moved closer.

And then—

A voice filled the universe.

It didn't come from the sky.

It didn't come from the crack.

It came from everywhere.

"You remember."

Kael's body went completely still.

The voice continued.

"At last."

Eryx raised his power.

"Who are you?"

The universe shook.

The answer came slowly.

"I am what remains when everything else has been forgotten."

Kael stared into the eye.

"Why are you here?"

A pause.

Then—

"Because you survived."

Kael's heart stopped.

The voice continued.

"You were never meant to survive the first universe."

Kael's Core pulsed violently.

Eryx stepped closer.

"Then why didn't you kill him?"

The eye shifted toward Eryx.

For the first time—

The enormous being seemed interested.

"Because you were never supposed to exist either."

Eryx froze.

Kael looked at his brother.

Then back at the creature.

"What do you want?"

The eye slowly closed.

The cracks in reality began spreading farther.

And just before the darkness swallowed the sky—

The voice whispered:

"Nothing."

A pause.

"I don't want anything from you."

The eye opened again.

"I only came to see what the two mistakes of creation became."

Kael's blood ran cold.

Two mistakes.

Him.

And Eryx.

The creature began moving through the crack.

Reality screamed.

Mountains shattered.

The stars above them bent toward it.

Kael stepped forward.

His three powers ignited.

White.

Black.

Silver.

Eryx stood beside him.

Their energies intertwined.

Kael looked at his brother.

"We've faced gods."

Eryx smiled faintly.

"World-ending monsters."

Kael tightened his fist.

"Ancient civilizations."

Eryx nodded.

"Even the Origin."

Kael stared at the approaching darkness.

"But we've never fought something that existed before creation."

The Hunger inside Kael suddenly spoke.

For the first time—

Not through fear.

Not through instinct.

But clearly.

I know it.

Kael's eyes widened.

"You know it?"

The Hunger answered.

I was created to keep it away.

Kael looked toward the crack.

And suddenly—

He understood why the First Hunger had always consumed everything.

It hadn't been hungry for power.

It had been trying to erase the trail leading back to them.

It had been hiding them.

Protecting them.

All this time—

The monster Kael had spent lifetimes trying to destroy…

had been protecting him from something far worse.

Kael's expression hardened.

"You were protecting us."

The Hunger pulsed once.

Yes.

Kael looked at Eryx.

Then at Aetherion.

Then at the enormous being beyond reality.

His fear disappeared.

Not because the creature wasn't terrifying.

But because Kael finally understood something.

He had already faced the end of everything.

He had already died.

He had already lost his memories.

He had already fought himself.

And he had survived.

Kael stepped forward.

The silver energy around him intensified.

"Then let's see what happens when a mistake refuses to die."

Eryx laughed.

"That's my brother."

The creature finally crossed the boundary.

And the universe went silent.

Then—

Something behind it opened.

Not an eye.

Not a mouth.

A doorway.

And beyond that doorway—

Kael saw thousands of universes.

All of them dying.

All of them being consumed.

All of them leading toward one single point.

Toward something waiting at the center of everything.

Kael stared.

And Aetherion whispered the words that terrified him more than anything else.

"The creature isn't coming here."

Kael turned.

"Then where is it going?"

Aetherion looked toward the dying universes.

"It's going back."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"Back where?"

Aetherion answered—

"To the place where you were born."

And somewhere beyond the Final Boundary—

Something laughed.
