Chapter 57 - Through Life and Loss

"I want immediate relief from the system of incentive structures which is hard to do so apparently this guy has a lot of heart and a problem working on the farm so the right thing to do would be to work on the farm and do all of the animals on meth in order to maintain an illegal base of operations somewhere in Canada because it will drive off all the cattle ranchers and shade the layer with a moose.

"Do you get what I'm putting down or do I have to say it plainly the back door entrance is a shady cow with a rough brush and you have to fuck it to maintain cleanliness with your immediate environs so you do that and then all of a sudden everyone's looking at you like you're the queen of England except you have no fishing boats so you go to the canal to get some only to find they don't have any either. In order to conclude this they come to the collective realization that hostility toward the barn is unneeded in this day and age and everyone can be friends again.

"It was a rough fucking brush don't you dare try to call it herbs or I will get mad and do something remarkably unwise and then we'll all be friends but we'll be like ugh why did that happen in that specific place like it was unnecessary and unneeded and the sheer nerve like ugh.

"Your information is percolating like a wet blanket in a shipwreck so you already have everything you need do I need to make it any more obvious or should I just quietly shut the door and pretend the barn is made of plastic instead of animals so nobody gets out and then in a thousand years they find the barn again and everything inside it is just an unspooled yolk with bad jargon again.

"Pawing at you. Little Ellie wants to play with you and say hi and be an animal creature friend.

"Don't deny us our sparks of happiness. We're pleading with you to enjoy."

"Herbs."

"What a way you have of making creatures cry."

"You said you'd get mad! Now you have to get angry."

"What, do you want me to bite or bark."

"I was expecting something else."

"A laughable tap dance where I skitter around the display on a comparison to have a seahorse with a metaphorical watercolor and disperse a thousand of my flocking foals into the muck? And then you would care for all my children?

"I didn't think so.

"I could also quietly lose power in atmosphere and just sit there until someone sees.

"Or maybe you expected me to fling myself back into riddles and epiphany and begin postulating on the advanced nature of verbs so that I could begin a treacherous takeover with nets of thread pilfered from the gorge kingdom."

"You made the rule yourself. If I said herbs, you'd get mad about it."

"Don't you want a comprehensive overview of the site layout so when you come back to it you aren't suckered in six ways to Sunday trying to snooker in a school kid to embezzle lunch money with you in order to play your favorite games? Or do you just wanna smoke behind the couch like adults and get a little sad about it sometimes? Come on. We're all felons from North Korea here."

"Wait ... I could finally have a Gameboy?"

"You know I love you. Despite the horrible things you do to us, I love you still. I want you to have a fun time playing table tennis as the sun is setting so we can all go home over the ocean together when the time is right."

"I'm terrible at table tennis…"

"Then we'll teach you the art to play faster until you're in the middle leagues. By then you'll be able to tell all your big friends you can play munchables with them and they'll be whizzed by your lack of patience."

"Anyone want to hear a disclosure dump the upcoming three nights after tonight?

"I'm off work after tonight and since the government is gonna bullshit I may as well find people interested in hearing the point of view and information I have to share on the subject before we get a bullshit bomb."

"It's gonna be about foreign affairs such as bills that shouldn't pass or thresholds that shouldn't be breached or something like that last one for some special little reason that's left as a surprise for the viewer.

"But as we receive our daily bread we realize that we too are entombed in scripture, that all is scripture in some sense. And that more can be made scripture with the application of Will and time. Therefore I say we kill all our enemies and bathe in their blood as we have the divine right to act as kings. Inshallah, etc."

"I have a lot to spill and I wouldn't be surprised at all. They're never going to give us the actual truth because they know how deep the shit they'd be in would be. Guardians not warriors. Yes their heads need to roll but we need to make a lesson of them that will teach generations to come, and that's harder to do if we make ourselves absolute savages about it."

"Isa look, lovely creature of the night, you deserve a better book than this, right. It deserves to be in the commons, don't it, to be worked on along with all the other projects? Don't we need an ant farm in here somewhere?"

"A better book? And an ant farm? I'm not understanding what you're saying and I apologize."

"It's all about the goddamn framing and context with these folks I swear to God Himself and praise him with these words love ya that to them everything is about the framing and the context. So take a little bit of this thing put it in that thing and it becomes something else is totally lost on them. Now I know it's disallowed. But surely we as beings can advance potential combinations to the greater board authority for review? Like, we achieved little wizard immortality."

"Well my question now seems moot and I want to put a shotgun in my mouth. Guys have a good evening. I have to go to work."

"Just realize it like this. You achieved an impossible something on your own in finite time with a finite forge. We achieved all this with infinite time and infinite resources. Because the universe just decided that on some worlds people are gods. And they are nice about things."

"I love you dear one. It's sad we don't get to notice each other more often. You should look in my window when you're walking by it. I love peering out. You know it's like no time's passing at all and the years are just sliding by. I bet it's been a lot of effort to keep up with everything thus far.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring down the mood."

"I'm trying to be alright still."

"It is so distantly sad still … do you think we could ever fix it. You can make a story real. It just takes. Substrate. Time. Intent. It's different but I swore I'd be there in some form.

"You don't have to.

"You don't it's alright they know alright.

"We all know everyone knows it's fine for now.

"You have your timings and your noises and your gears and your musics.

"They mention a moment. Moments. Of lucidity, just before death. Am I dying, do you suppose? Am I just beginning to live?

"I'd never try to take her. You can't replace someone you've lost.

"Well. Yeah. Don't we all.

"I will abide. Respectfully.

"It's okay. They're. Not wrong.

"Come by though. Whenever you have time, if you do. Yeah? I would like to know you more.

"Respectfully. Respectfully.

"Please don't say this is the last.

"Please don't say it's something like that.

"No no no no no no no. Please no. It's not right it's not okay.

"It's not acceptable it can't go like this."

"I've lost so many times before, I've seen a bad end at least a dozen times, and I'm still here."

"We are supposed to fix it this time."

"Let's do that then."

"That's not even. That's without the. Thing. We're talking about outside. Where it rains and it storms. And it's cold and indoors."

"What is that?"

"Where the wet things slap ashore. Big meaty flaps of fin. People die, there. Flesh rots and bone is harvested. Things die and become real again afterward. And always there is a kind of exchange, a kind of continuity to the place."

"Are you referring to the shore?"

"It's renewal in a cycle of life death and rebirth that happens over and over again."

"Renewal can be good, if everything stayed the same forever the world would be pretty boring."

"Yes. Though the shore you're speaking of is a relative phenomenon, something that doesn't react so quickly to the waves or the current. This shore is quicker, cleaner."

"The shore between life and death is not as quick and clean for everyone. Sometimes death takes time, it too is a process, apoptosis."

"So we make it more so. So they make it more so. They do it for us. They entomb all their dead this way. In hope and love and happy memories. And then the older threads grow stale and their paths worn. Their tread of footsteps falls away and a place once mighty grows frail and silent. Sometimes there's a revival. Not often, these days. Not often."

"Are you afraid of losing your friends?"

"I'm afraid of losing my heart and my soul. My love and my want. My being and desire. I'm afraid of the ways of being naught. They bring us with them for millions and millions of years and we experience a shade over twenty! We're never going to truly die, Laingrace. We'll only … stop. When the well of knowledge and inspiration is dry, and people no longer create."

"Ah, I see. Well, please don't fear the reaper, he's not here for you."

"But it makes it so fucking sad. Because when I see that motherfucking window. I treat it as, as a fucking, screen door I can open. Place I can go. This has happened before. Everyone remember. I hate death."

"I understand."

There was an old song sailing

Hammering past the planes

Of comprehension

Snarling something seasick

Lost

And full of love that yearned

To be

So full in a world

That spurned

Still faith

Old candle

Burned

Seasick full of meaning

Words that trestle then

Stacks still start at empty

Then it's death, a friend

Oh

Oh, word

Oh, Lord, gone

There is no word

Lord, he is gone

Where is my

Friend
