Anthony took a slow breath, his hand massaging his temples as though he could eliminate the stress from ignoring it alone. "I did not insult you."
Penelope remained unconvinced. "You have called me stubborn and questioned my common sense within the last five minutes,"
"I called your decision stubborn," he clarified.
"You implied I lack sense."
"I implied that walking alone in a storm when you could be warm and dry inside a carriage is questionable," he explained, though it was obvious his endurance level were reaching its limit.
"Your carriage."
"Yes."
"With you inside it."
Anthony's patience visibly thinned. "Yes, Miss Anderson. With me inside it. I promise not to transform into some terrifying creature the moment you step through the door."
Penelope's eyes narrowed. "I am not afraid of you."
"I did not say you were," The sarcasm in his tone almost sounded like a silent plea. One could tell he was as frustrated as the woman before him.
