Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Entrance Evaluation

Morning fog clung to the glass towers of the Valen Business Academy, turning the skyline into a pale blur of steel and light. From the outside, the building looked less like a school and more like the headquarters of a powerful corporation—which, in truth, it nearly was.

The academy existed for one purpose: to shape the next generation of elite business leaders.

Children of billionaires.

Heirs to corporate empires.

Future CEOs.

Aria Valen stood at the bottom of the marble staircase leading to the entrance, her gaze resting on the tall building.

Three years ago, she had stood here once before.

But back then, she had never stepped inside.

Adrian had refused her application before she even had the chance to try.

At the time, she had accepted it quietly.

Now she knew the real reason.

If she had gained power inside the company earlier, his plan to steal her inheritance would have been far more complicated.

A cold smile touched her lips.

This time, things would be different.

A sleek black car door closed behind her as the Valen family driver stepped away.

Students moved up and down the steps in small groups. Their clothes were expensive, their posture confident, their voices filled with casual arrogance.

Most of them had grown up knowing exactly what kind of world they belonged to.

Power.

Influence.

Control.

Aria adjusted the sleeve of her coat and began walking toward the entrance.

A few students glanced at her.

Some recognized her immediately.

The Valen name carried weight in this city.

But their interest quickly faded.

To them, she was just another wealthy heiress.

Harmless.

Unimportant.

Perfect.

The lobby of the academy was vast and elegant, designed with polished stone floors and towering glass walls that allowed sunlight to pour inside. A large digital board near the center displayed today's schedule.

ENTRANCE EVALUATION — LEVEL ONE

Aria walked toward the registration desk where several candidates were already signing in.

A woman in a dark suit glanced up.

"Name?"

"Aria Valen."

The woman paused briefly before typing something into the system.

Then she handed Aria a tablet.

"Please complete the candidate registration and proceed to Evaluation Hall A."

Aria nodded politely.

As she walked toward the seating area, she could feel the quiet shift in attention around her.

Whispers.

Subtle glances.

Of course they knew her name.

The Valen empire was one of the most powerful corporations in the region.

Which meant everyone here assumed she would pass easily.

Nepotism was common in places like this.

Aria sat down and began filling out the form.

Her expression remained calm.

But inside, her mind was already calculating.

The entrance evaluation had three stages.

Written analysis.

Strategic simulation.

And a final interview with the board.

She knew that because in her previous life, Bianca had taken the same test two years later.

Aria had helped her prepare.

The irony almost made her laugh.

Her stepsister had eventually joined the academy with Adrian's enthusiastic support.

Meanwhile, Aria had been quietly pushed toward marriage.

Her fingers tightened slightly around the stylus.

Not this time.

When she finished registering, she stood and walked toward Evaluation Hall A.

The room inside looked more like a corporate boardroom than an examination hall. Long desks were arranged in neat rows, each equipped with a computer terminal.

A supervisor stood near the front.

"Please take any available seat."

Aria chose a desk near the window.

Outside, the fog was beginning to lift, revealing the busy city below.

The test began soon after.

The first stage was a written analysis of corporate crisis management.

Aria scanned the document calmly.

In her previous life, she had never received formal business training.

But after being forced into marriage with a man deeply involved in brutal corporate negotiations, she had learned far more about the business world than anyone realized.

Years of observing ruthless deals.

Years of listening to strategies whispered behind closed doors.

Years of learning how powerful men manipulated entire industries.

That knowledge now sat quietly inside her mind like a hidden weapon.

Her fingers moved across the keyboard.

Calm.

Precise.

The analysis flowed easily.

By the time the supervisor announced the end of the first stage, Aria leaned back slightly in her chair.

Stage one was complete.

Several candidates looked exhausted already.

She felt nothing.

Stage two was the strategic simulation.

Each participant was assigned a fictional company facing financial collapse. Their task was to stabilize the company using a series of timed decisions.

The computer screen lit up.

Scenario: Valmont Technologies — Financial Crisis

Aria's eyes scanned the data quickly.

Declining stock prices.

Hostile competitors.

Internal corruption.

Her mind began to map possible solutions instantly.

Most candidates would attempt to cut costs or seek investors.

But those were slow solutions.

Aria chose something more aggressive.

Corporate restructuring.

Strategic mergers.

And a targeted acquisition that would neutralize the hostile competitor.

Her fingers moved quickly.

Decision after decision.

Each choice altered the simulation's outcome.

The numbers on the screen began to shift.

Stock value rising.

Competitor pressure decreasing.

Internal stability improving.

She finished the simulation with nearly five minutes remaining.

When the final results appeared, the system paused for a moment.

Then a message flashed across the screen.

SIMULATION RESULT: EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE

A few students nearby noticed and glanced at her screen in surprise.

Aria simply logged out of the system.

Stage two was complete.

Only the final interview remained.

Candidates were called one by one.

Aria waited calmly.

Eventually, a staff member approached her.

"Miss Valen, the board is ready for you."

She stood and followed him down a quiet hallway.

At the end stood a large conference room door.

The staff member knocked once before opening it.

Inside, five evaluators sat behind a long table.

Aria stepped forward.

"Aria Valen," one of them said.

"Yes."

"Please have a seat."

She sat down calmly.

The evaluators studied her with interest.

One of them, an older man with silver hair, leaned forward slightly.

"Your simulation results were… impressive."

Aria inclined her head politely.

"Thank you."

Another evaluator spoke.

"Your strategic approach was unusually aggressive for a first-time candidate."

Aria met his gaze.

"Sometimes aggressive solutions are necessary."

The evaluators exchanged brief glances.

The silver-haired man spoke again.

"Tell us something, Miss Valen."

"Yes?"

"Why do you suddenly want to join the academy?"

A simple question.

But the room seemed to grow quieter as they waited for her answer.

Aria considered her words carefully.

"I realized recently that understanding business is the only way to truly control one's future."

The statement hung in the air.

One of the evaluators raised an eyebrow.

"That's a rather mature perspective."

Aria gave a small smile.

"I've had time to think."

The silver-haired man studied her thoughtfully.

Then he leaned back in his chair.

"Well," he said.

"I believe we've heard enough."

Aria stood when they dismissed her.

As she walked out of the room, the door closed quietly behind her.

What she didn't see—

Was the sixth person sitting in the shadowed corner of the conference room.

He hadn't spoken once during the interview.

But he had watched everything.

From the moment she entered.

The man leaned slightly forward now.

His dark eyes rested on the door Aria had just exited.

The evaluators turned toward him respectfully.

"Well?" the silver-haired man asked.

"What do you think?"

The man didn't answer immediately.

His fingers tapped once against the table.

Then he spoke.

"Interesting."

His voice was low.

Controlled.

The evaluators exchanged curious looks.

"Interesting how?" one of them asked.

The man stood slowly.

Tall.

Commanding.

The air in the room seemed to shift subtly around him.

"Most candidates here rely on predictable strategies," he said.

"But Miss Valen…"

His lips curved faintly.

"…thinks like someone who has already lost everything."

The evaluators looked surprised.

He walked toward the window, gazing down at the city below.

For a moment, he said nothing.

Then he added quietly,

"Keep an eye on her."

His eyes darkened slightly.

"Something about that girl…"

He turned toward the door.

"…doesn't belong in this place."

And for the first time in years—

The powerful man who would one day become the most dangerous ally Aria Valen could ever have—

Had just noticed her.
