Lyra's POV
I took the book from Julian and scribbled down my thoughts.
[I won't do that to him.] "We can't predict what's coming, but knowing Caelum like I do, you'll probably need to give him hell sometimes."
Julian shrugged like it was no big deal, then dropped down beside me on the makeshift bed.
[What about Jasper and Tobias?] I nudged Julian and showed him my note. I'd already asked Caelum, but I needed to hear it again.
"Relax, they're okay. Caelum just dealt with them differently." Julian's laugh made my stomach twist.
I wasn't laughing. My brows pulled together, and I mouthed silently, 'What?'
"Caelum stuck them with grunt work. No more patrol duty, no more being your bodyguards. He's getting you new warriors." Julian winked like this was good news.
But I don't want that. My frown deepened. Jasper and Tobias were just starting to feel familiar. I didn't want some uptight strangers who'd only take orders from Caelum.
