Chapter 78 - 78: Escape of the Masked Man

Obito's expression darkened more and more until it looked as black as charcoal. Was this Uchiha in front of him his natural enemy?

He had barely shown himself in the outside world, yet the moment he did, everything went wrong. Tobi had been crippled, Black Zetsu and White Zetsu were both forced to retreat, and now he was left alone.

At the moment, Obito only had one Sharingan. He could not even use Susanoo, and the only technique he could rely on was Kamui. How was he supposed to fight someone like Ryūjin?

The answer was obvious. He simply could not.

The only reason he was still standing there was because he kept his body in a constant state of intangibility. As long as he stayed like that, Ryūjin could not touch him. But in the same way, he had no way to hurt Ryūjin either.

Even though he did not want to admit it, Obito had to accept the truth. Against this person, the only thing he could do was retreat the moment things went wrong.

"Who exactly are you, and what kind of grudge do you have against me? Why do you keep ruining my plans again and again?" Obito asked, his voice filled with frustration as he stared at Ryūjin.

Ryūjin looked at him like he was listening to something ridiculous.

"I think you've misunderstood something. If I remember correctly, you were the one who tried to mess with me first last time."

"As for now, I already told you, I'm here for Kisame Hoshigaki. This has nothing to do with you."

He spoke calmly, his expression completely serious, but the indifference in his tone made Obito's anger grow even stronger.

For a moment, Obito stayed silent. Then a spatial vortex appeared in his right eye and slowly began to swallow him.

"We'll meet again," he said coldly.

In the next second, he disappeared completely.

The people present were left speechless.

Everyone stared at Ryūjin, unable to hide the shock in their eyes. Just who was this person to scare away someone who called himself Uchiha Madara?

They still remembered how terrifying that man had been when he first appeared. He had suppressed Yagura Karatachi, Mei Terumī, and several powerful ninjas the moment he showed up. Yet now, that same person had retreated without even trying to continue the fight.

Crack. Crack. Crack.

Boom.

A violent explosion suddenly rang out. The wooden branches that had been tightly binding Yagura Karatachi shattered instantly, breaking apart into countless pieces that scattered across the ground.

After the White Zetsu controlling the Wood Release had been cut down by Ryūjin, the wooden branches had completely lost control. Without chakra supporting them, they were nothing more than ordinary wood.

Yagura Karatachi easily broke free, then quickly released Mei Terumī and Yahiko, who had also been restrained.

Ryūjin did not even look at them. Instead, he walked straight toward Kisame Hoshigaki step by step.

Kisame was not an ordinary ninja. After a short time, he had already regained part of his strength. He lifted Samehada and pointed it directly at Ryūjin.

"I don't care who you are. Just don't get any ideas about me, or I'll kill you."

Ryūjin looked at him calmly, completely ignoring Samehada.

"First, you can't do that. Second, don't you want to know the truth about this world?"

Kisame's expression did not change at all.

"This world is fake. There is no truth. I've already lost all hope in it, so don't expect anything from me."

Kisame had always valued his comrades more than anything else, yet he had been forced to kill many of them because of orders. In the end, he discovered that even the person he trusted the most had betrayed him.

Everything he believed in had collapsed at that moment.

Then Obito had appeared and told him about the Eye of the Moon Plan, claiming it was the only truth in the world. Kisame believed him.

But now he had just found out that even that so-called truth had been nothing more than another lie.

If even that was fake, then what in this world was real?

"Come with me," Ryūjin said calmly. "I'll show you what this world really looks like."

"If there's anyone who can do that, then I'm the most likely person, right?"

Kisame tightened his grip on Samehada, then slowly loosened it again.

What Ryūjin said was not completely wrong. He did not know whether this man truly understood the truth of the world, but among everyone he had met, this person was indeed the most likely one.

"Besides, since you already think this world is fake, what do you have to lose by coming with me?" Ryūjin continued calmly. "At worst, you'll just be fooled one more time."

Kisame stayed silent for a few seconds. Then he slowly lowered Samehada.

"Fine. Even if it's a lie, I'd rather believe someone like you."

Ryūjin nodded in satisfaction.

"Good. Then come with me. I'll show you the true face of the Ninja World."

"None of you are going anywhere."

A cold voice suddenly cut through the air.

Yagura Karatachi and Mei Terumī stepped forward at the same time, staring at Ryūjin like they were facing a powerful enemy. Kisame Hoshigaki was a rogue ninja of the Hidden Mist, yet this mysterious person was trying to take him away right in front of them.

Did he think the Hidden Mist was his own territory?

This was going too far.

"Hiding in Mist Technique."

Yagura quickly formed hand seals. In an instant, an extremely dense fog spread out in every direction, covering dozens of kilometers around the Mizukage's office building.

Ryūjin looked around and saw nothing but white. Even with the Sharingan, he could not see through the thick fog. Once the mist spread, it was like being completely blind.

And because the Hidden Mist Village was surrounded by water and had extremely high humidity, it was almost impossible to disperse the fog using normal ninjutsu.

But Ryūjin did not panic at all.

He only needed one thing.

Sage Mode.

The enhanced perception from Sage Mode was far stronger than ordinary vision. For someone at his level, the thick fog made no real difference.

"I really do plan to take Kisame Hoshigaki away," Ryūjin said calmly. "But that's not the only reason I came here. Yagura Karatachi, I also came for you."

He turned slightly and smiled in Yagura's direction.

The smile looked calm, almost friendly, yet it made Yagura's heart tighten instantly. Could this person still see through the fog?

Yagura's expression turned cold. Without making a sound, he moved through the mist and silently approached Ryūjin.

Then he suddenly swung his hook-shaped weapon straight toward him.

Clap.

Ryūjin casually raised one hand and caught the weapon with ease.

Yagura's pupils shrank instantly.

"What?"
