Chapter 84 - Chapter 85 What a strange fate, isn't it?

Chapter 85 What a strange fate, isn't it?

Lynn stepped forward and finished off the criminal who had almost been crushed to death by Simon with a petrification spell.

At the same time, he secretly used a transformation spell on the three pistols and the shotgun Rozier had previously held.

Fearing that Rozier and the others might suddenly turn on him and shoot him with those weapons, he transformed these dangerous items into magical wands (toys).

The danger was over, but an eerie silence fell over the church.

Leon and Smith wanted to take Simon, who had been shot in the arm, to see a doctor, but Simon shook his head, refusing to go, just clutching his arm and staring intently at Lynn.

Rozier and the others wore the same expression, which gave Lynn goosebumps.

But Lynn needed to figure out the situation now. The thing that had suddenly appeared in his hand and returned his magic was clearly what Kira wanted him to get.

And this thing had been in the hands of these saints all along.

"Does anyone know what this is?"

he asked, revealing the object in his hand.

It was a black cross, not quite a cross, because all four corners were the same length, not the other way around.

The saints present looked at the black cross in Lynn's hand with expressions of reverence, as if paying tribute.

Rosier struggled to keep her voice from trembling, speaking in her gentlest voice,

"That is a symbol of your status, and the emblem of your family."

Lynn frowned, puzzled by her mystical manner, unlike Kira, who always spoke so bluntly.

"Who left this for me?" Lynn asked a more direct question.

Judging from the saints' expressions, he already had a guess, but he also needed an answer.

Rosier opened her mouth, as if the answer was about to spill from it, when suddenly her body stiffened.

Her consciousness suddenly lost control of her body; she desperately tried to speak, but couldn't!

Just as Rosier was in despair, her mouth suddenly opened again on its own.

  "It's Martin Lundgard."

Rozier was utterly panicked. She wanted to regain control of her body and argue that this wasn't the answer she wanted to give, but she couldn't.

Terrified, she tried to move her eyes to give Lynn a hint that she was being controlled. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Professor Fawkes behind Lynn.

She didn't recognize the silver-haired, bespectacled old man at all, but now, seeing his eyes that always seemed to be smiling, she felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity.

Rozier gave up struggling, her heart filled with despair.

Because she recognized who Professor Fawkes was, she couldn't resist, and she shouldn't resist.

Not only her, but the three men, including Smith, were also shocked to hear Rozier utter a name they had never heard before. They wanted to deny her words, but they couldn't.

Their bodies had been silently controlled by someone.

Lynn was taken aback when he heard Rozier utter a name so different from what he had imagined.

  "Who is he?"

"He was our former colleague. The Lungard family is a pure-blooded family in the German wizarding world. Martin Lungard fought and died for Lord Grindelwald's ideals. To commemorate his bravery, Lord Grindelwald enchanted his family crest, allowing it to absorb the magic of wizards within a certain range and convert it for his own use."

Rozier spoke mechanically, reciting lines that had been given to her.

Lynn frowned, looking at the black cross in his hand.

"Then why did it suddenly appear in my hand, not only returning the magic to me but also allowing me to cast spells without a wand?"

"Because you are the only bloodline of the Lungard family. The Lungard family crest itself is a powerful magical item. Apart from Lord Grindelwald, it is only used by those with Lungard blood, and you are now its master."

Lynn looked at her and the three old men behind her, feeling that something was amiss, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He could only tentatively ask the three old men again.

  "Is what she said true?"

Smith and the others nodded, their faces showing agreement.

Lynn scratched his head. Although he knew the answer, it was far from what he had guessed.

He waved the black cross made of some unknown material in front of his eyes.

"Then how do I return the magic inside to Professor Fawkes?"

"You just need to take it out of this city, and the magic it absorbed will return to its original owners."

Lynn looked at Rozier: "Including you?"

  "Yes, including us." Rozier nodded.

"Why didn't you take it outside the city yourself?"

"No one except the Lungard family and Lord Grindelwald could lift it. Lord Grindelwald had kept it on that large cross."

The saints looked at him expectantly, their expressions a mixture of being manipulated and their true feelings.

Now, with just a word from Lynn, they could become wizards again.

They were yearning, excited, and terrified.

Lynn turned to Professor Fawkes, who had remained silent, and looked at him questioningly.

"I won't interfere with your decision. Do what you think you should do," Professor Fawkes said with a smile.

Lynn turned back to the saints and asked softly,

"After you regain your magic, will you continue to be dark wizards and commit evil deeds?"

When Lynn asked this question, the control over Rosier and the others was released, but no one dared to openly say that what they had just said wasn't true, but rather something someone had manipulated them into saying.

They knew that under that person's watchful eye, disobeying his will could not only harm them, but also Lynn.

  There's nothing a forgetting spell can't solve.

So, they spoke their true thoughts.

"No, I'm used to being a farmer. Even if I regain my magic, I'll probably stay here and continue farming and raising cattle," Simon said, scratching the back of his head.

Smith and Leon exchanged a glance and shook their heads.

"We're used to life here too. We'll probably live here until we die."

Only Rozier remained silent. She wanted to say that she wanted to follow Lynn, teach him magic, guide his thinking, and make him a qualified successor.

But when she saw the encouraging look in Fawkes's eyes, she was afraid.

She wasn't afraid of what might happen to her, but she was afraid of Lynn. She was afraid that Lynn would be feared by that person because of her and would live under surveillance for the rest of his life.

In the end, she could only grit her teeth and reluctantly nod.

"I will continue to stay here, in this church, as a nun for the rest of my life."

Hearing their answer, Lynn wasn't worried they were lying. Now that Grindelwald wasn't backing them up, the magical world would be relatively peaceful for the next four years.

Besides, he absolutely had to take the black cross with him; asking them was just to get a promise from them.

Having basically understood the situation, Lynn couldn't wait to get home.

  He shrugged at Professor Fawkes.

"Professor, we can finally leave now."

They left the church together, first going to where Lynn had initially stored his luggage to retrieve it.

It was already late at night, and Lynn didn't want to disturb the family, so he used a unlocking charm, left a note, and quietly took the luggage.

They reached the outskirts of Abros. As soon as they left the city, Lynn clearly felt countless magical energies surging from the black cross in his hand, dispersing into the small town.

A wisp of magic also entered Professor Fawkes's body beside him.

"Can you take me home, Professor?" Lynn asked.

  "Of course."

He grabbed Lynn's arm and used Apparition, waving his wand.

Having already Apparated twice, Lynn was naturally not going to be so clumsy this time.

In the blink of an eye, he was back in his backyard.

The familiar lawn and familiar scents brought him a strange sense of peace.

  He naturally invited Professor Fawkes,

"Would you like to come over for a bit?"

  Professor Fawkes shook his head.

"It's so late, I'd rather not. Besides, I have something left at the Abros Inn that I need to go get."

He prepared to leave, giving Lynn a word of advice before he did.

"Lynn, try not to let anyone find out that the badge allows you to cast spells without a wand. I'll keep it a secret; it can be very useful in certain situations."

  "I understand, Professor."

"That was a good experience, wasn't it?" Professor Fawkes said with a smile before leaving.

Then, without waiting for Lynn's reply, he left with a "thud!"

Lynn stood in the dark backyard, gripping the black cross in his hand, and after a long while, murmured something to the air opposite him.

"Yes, this is quite a… farce."

He didn't immediately go inside to rest, but instead called out the house-elf's name.

  "Kira! Come out!"

The old house-elf peeked out from behind the fence, a white hamster following behind.

Lynn held the black cross badge in his hand, his face expressionless.

"Tell me, Kira, was your old master Gellert Grindelwald? Is this badge the Grindelwald family crest?"

Kira trembled, kneeling on the ground, snot and tears streaming down its face, unable to give Lynn an answer.

  …

  Abrose.

  Professor Fawkes returned.

But instead of going to the small inn he had stayed at with Lynn, as he had said,

he went back to the small chapel.

The saints hadn't left; they seemed to know Professor Fawkes would return, waiting for him there.

  Professor Fawkes didn't speak.

  The saints didn't speak either.

The professor silently sat on the bench, reverting to his transformation.

Professor Fawkes's appearance was changing; his hair began to grow, his beard lengthened, and his glasses became crescent-shaped.

Dumbledore, now reverting to his identity as the greatest white wizard of the twentieth century, smiled at the saints who were staring intently at him.

"If you have something to say, say it."

"Why won't you let us tell him his identity?" Rosier couldn't help but shout.

She had imagined countless times what it would be like to see Dumbledore again, imagining her anger and defiance.

But in the end, she was still afraid—afraid of this old man who had once defeated her faith. She could only utter a powerless question.

Dumbledore blinked, as kind as a kind old neighbor.

"Because you can't tell him this. Don't look at me like that. Don't worry, he'll know." "

And," he clapped his hands lightly, "your sentences are over."

Rosier didn't care about her freedom; she only cared about Dumbledore's attitude towards Lynn. She gritted her teeth and asked.

"Then why did you lie to him?"

Dumbledore stroked his long beard, not avoiding Rosier's question, and explained earnestly.

"Because I can't see his thoughts, which makes me somewhat uneasy. He seemed to have been wary of me beforehand, forcing me to test him.

I gave him two opportunities to leave.

He could have escaped the conflicts of the wizarding world and lived a happier life, but he refused and found his way here himself."

   Dumbledore remarked.

  ."Isn't it a wondrous fate?"
