Chapter 104: The Wronged Peeves
Peeves saw Lynn and instinctively trembled.
For the past few days, he had been avoiding Lynn almost constantly. Even when they accidentally bumped into each other, he would silently slip away.
But even with all this effort, Lynn had still come to grab him again.
This was simply unbearable!
Peeves wasn't someone whose nature could be suppressed so easily. Although he still felt an instinctive fear of Lynn, he now knew that Lynn possessed a spell capable of imprisoning ghosts, so he refused to give him another chance.
"You despicable little wizard! You still want to catch me? Pah! Don't dream! Peeves won't fall for the same trick twice!"
The mischievous poltergeist made faces and stuck out his tongue at Lynn, venting all the fear he had been suppressing.
Lynn blinked, drew his wand, and nodded approvingly.
"Yes, only a fool would fall for the same trick twice. But why do you think I'm going to use the same method again?"
As Lynn raised his wand, Peeves was already hovering warily in the air.
He planned to give Lynn no opportunity at all and escape straight through the wall!
"Soul Seal."
The incantation rang out.
By then, Peeves was already halfway through the wall. He was confident he could escape before the spell could affect him.
However, no beam of magic shot out from Lynn's wand.
As if nothing had happened, Peeves smoothly passed through the wall separating the corridor and the classroom.
He was instantly overjoyed.
He felt like he had overcome his fear—he would never need to be afraid of Lynn again!
But just as he was about to pass back through the wall to take revenge—
A semi-transparent bubble suddenly appeared beside him.
In an instant, he was trapped inside it, unable to escape no matter how violently he struggled!
At that moment, Lynn pushed open the classroom door and walked in.
With a casual wave of his hand, the floating bubble flew into his palm as if attracted by magic.
Holding it, Lynn kneaded the bubble like clay. Peeves' body twisted along with it, eventually turning into a small, squeaking ball.
"How do you feel, Peeves?"
Lynn asked calmly, as if observing an experiment.
Peeves felt nothing but deep grievance.
He had never done anything serious to Lynn—at most, he had accidentally brushed against him while playing pranks.
They had no grudges, no conflicts.
Yet this demon kept targeting him!
Peeves felt utterly wronged.
He wailed loudly, though as a spirit, no tears could fall.
"I'm sorry! I'll never do it again! Tell me what I did wrong! I'll apologize! I was really wrong! Waaaaah…"
Lynn continued shaping him into different forms.
He hadn't intended to target Peeves specifically. It was simply because Peeves was the easiest ghost in Hogwarts to handle—and also quite unique—making him a perfect test subject.
For example, the modified Imperius-based binding spell Lynn used was no longer directional, but fixed-point.
It activated through Lynn's vision—once he locked onto a target and cast the spell, it would directly form a membrane around it, sealing the spirit.
This greatly improved casting speed and accuracy, but slightly reduced binding strength.
After all, the spell no longer acted directly on the spirit itself, but indirectly restricted it.
After testing for a while, Lynn finally released the spell and let Peeves go.
Peeves floated away weakly, sobbing softly, completely defeated.
At least the improvement had succeeded.
The spell could now be cast instantly with near-perfect accuracy—almost like Transfiguration.
Still, Lynn felt uneasy.
After all, he wasn't dealing with ordinary enemies. Being cautious was never a mistake.
Thinking about this, he headed toward the Great Hall for dinner.
Cedric and Ian were already seated at their usual spot.
"The Quidditch season is about to start," Cedric said excitedly.
He was a loyal Quidditch fan and followed every match closely.
Ian and Lynn, however, had never paid much attention to the sport.
"I heard the first match is Slytherin vs Gryffindor?" Ian said.
Cedric nodded enthusiastically and looked at Lynn.
"Yeah! Gryffindor is fired up this year. Captain Wood says they've got a secret weapon. Lynn, any inside info from Slytherin?"
Lynn ate absentmindedly.
"You know how Slytherin plays—dirty and aggressive. Every match feels like a brawl. And honestly, Quidditch relies too much on the Seeker. It's supposed to be a team sport, but teamwork isn't the focus."
Cedric looked slightly disappointed.
"That's not true. The Seeker is important, but Chasers and Beaters matter too."
Lynn suddenly froze.
Then slowly looked up.
"Wait… what did you just say?"
"The Chasers and Beaters are important."
"No, before that."
"The Seeker is the key to winning."
"…Right!"
Lynn suddenly slapped Ian's thigh, making him gasp.
"The key player… that's it!"
He stood up excitedly.
"We just need to find the key player!"
Cedric looked confused.
"Are you still talking about Quidditch?"
Lynn suddenly hugged him tightly.
"When my research is done, I'll tell you who's going to win the next Quidditch World Cup!"
With that, he rushed out of the Great Hall.
Leaving Cedric and Ian completely confused.
