Chapter 43 - Nice News. [2]

The good news was: Adeline herself seemed shocked by that sudden introduction.

Meanwhile, the other news was: they seemed to look alike that they being brother and sister shouldn't have shocked us.

Maybe we were shocked out of surprise more than the actual thing.

"What's up with this reaction?" Silas looked at the twins while raising an eyebrow. "You don't know that we are siblings?"

"How could we know when you don't even have the same last name?"

"Oh, right."

For some reason, even Silas seemed to forget that they had different last names.

So that was a lie.

But somehow, the similarities between them make it possible for them to have a relationship… and I wasn't that curious to try to know.

"Won't you stay to eat with us?"

"No, I just passed by and saw you."

Adrian, or what I tend to call 'the blue agent', didn't accept the invitation to sit with us.

"Are you free next weekend? Let's catch up with the rest."

"Maybe? I'll call you if I am free."

"Nice."

Adrian just gave us a nod with a small smile before going on his way. He didn't say anything to me, or about me, and that was a relief…

"That was so awkward, did you even try to make us aware of the fact that you know him?"

"Seeing your shocked faces was funny."

"..."

As crazy as everyone else,

Silas was never an exception.

"Why did you act like you're strangers? That was too much." Adeline asked as if the situation wasn't a good show for her.

"We have an agreement to do that outside home, and Vessels."

"...?"

"Family matters."

"Right…"

"Nathan was the only one who acted normal."

Ha?

I didn't even do anything!

"Joker face. Could you even know what he is thinking about?"

Drew just asked casually, but everyone took it seriously.

"No idea, maybe something about how boring this place is?"

What?

I really thought that this place was relaxing and good… did I seem like someone who hates calm things to Dean or what?

"What will the next vessel be?"

"Who on earth would think about that?! Psychopath?"

"Why be so angry? I just thought that you feel more relaxed there."

"Won't you just stop? I wasn't the one who was actually relaxed there."

Adeline was always the worst one to talk to, so I would always appreciate her silence and when she actively chose to shut up.

And if she won't shut up, I'll be the one to do it… today's decision: don't talk to provocative people.

"Okay, my turn." Drew got excited without any specific reason. "You seemed too focused, maybe thinking about 'when we will get out of here?'"

"No. Not this place, nor this company is boring or bad. What's up with these thoughts?"

"As Drew said before. Joker face." Silas spoke, not seeming very different from other crazy people here. "I bet that he thought 'How crazy' and 'What crazy' and 'You crazy beings' eighty percent of the time."

Oh,

That's right.

How could he even know?

"Why did you stay silent? Don't say that this is true?! Even Adeline's crazy idea seemed more accurate!"

"Could you please stop all of this? I need to eat in peace."

They did really stay silent after that, and somehow the rest of the dinner went fine. Except that they really put a plan to expose the villain who tried to kill them.

A cruel plan that nobody would love to get into.

And I made them add Alex to the pack so it was fair enough.

Next day,

I was the happiest person ever because I was finally returning to my team's office.

"Are you okay, kid?" That was the first thing I heard when I opened the door. The calmest greeting in existence.

"Yes. All they did was lock me in that room… for longer than what they said."

"Room?" My team leader frowned. "Don't say that to anyone or they'll think that you are an alien."

"Aliens call others aliens too, it's understandable." I put my things on my special spot before sitting on the nearest chair around the team's leader. "But why? Is there anything that I'm totally unaware of this time too?"

"Didn't you read the document I gave you?"

"Of course I did!"

Was there anything I must know from it but I didn't?

"Then you should know that no one has been locked up in that Vessel and came out totally fine, Nathan. At least you must have tried to seem different."

"Ah…"

That was right, but how could I tell him that I didn't even know its name myself? And even when Silas told me, I didn't know what to do about it.

Still, I think that everything is totally fine.

"Who told you that I'm not different?" he gave me that 'what are you talking about?' look, so I continued. "Didn't you hear of it, I'm officially the craziest employee in this company."

"I don't think that this is something you should be proud of…"

"Yeah, but at least I came out of that room like this. Crazy one Nathan entered, Craziest Nathan got out. So logical, right?"

"You're surely taking this too far."

"Yes but dealing with people like that needs this kind of behavior… wasn't you the one who told me not to be an easy prey?"

"Right— right" He seemed barely convinced but just passed it. "You have a new mission this time."

"Not in Team A please."

"Team A got a new leader."

"What? Why?"

"Things about breaking the rules." He threw a flashcard at me. "And that's not your job. Your's is about reading this and making a report."

"Report?"

"If you'll gather new teams, who will you put together?" His smile made me shiver. "Three days at most."

"But—"

"But what?"

"Is it permissible for me to have such information about others?"

"Why not? This may help you one day. Plus… the one who gave the company information about himself is the one who chose to be used this way. It's their fault."

Ah—

Cruel crazy company.

"Can I ask another question?"

"Will you stop if I said no?"

"No?" He just waved his hand as if he was giving me permission, so I did ask. "This department. It is a low-key department, right?"

"What made you say that?"

"I don't know, but somehow professionalism wasn't there…" and compared to the Disaster Management Authority team? They just seemed like kids.

"Usually people don't know about this until they get promoted to the other departments."

"So it's kind of thinking that you've reached the top when you are actually living at the bottom?"

"Yes."

"How crazy—"

Wait a second,

If it's something you couldn't know until you were promoted… then why did the team leader know about it?

And it was the same with the containment team before…

"So you got promoted?"

"Are you asking whatever comes to your mind?" He puts the tea cup elegantly on the plate while looking at me as if he wanted to see through my head. "You know that this isn't usually safe, right?"

"Yes. I ask because it's you who I'm asking."

"...?"

"Call it an instinct. I believe it."

"And it's usually fine?"

"Always."

"Alright… still, I'm not giving you an answer." he answered with a pat on my shoulder, as if he wanted to leave. "I have meetings today so the office is yours. You could finish your mission in peace."

"Take care…"

Two seconds after that, I became alone in the office with a strange thing to do.

But at least it wasn't an outside mission, so I didn't get that bad ugly feeling that came whenever I stepped out of the office.

"Three days he said—"

I checked the document to have a sudden heart attack when I found that it had over a thousand pages.

All of it was information I was never supposed to know in my whole life… and wouldn't be happy to know either.

"At least let's check the newcomers' pages."

I put my glasses on then held my notebook and started.

Three minutes later, I was out of speech.

"Silas: Know what every item does, rank C specialization. No other records?"

So he lied about this?

And the others—

"Dean's one…"

It was simply described as: visual image of any person who saw him. Rank D specialization. No other records.

That when his was something similar to reproduction!

"They played the game well."

Not showing others their true thing is better, right?

Drew's one was simply something like healing his small wounds. And Adeline's was showing illusions.

"Meanwhile the others—" paragraphs. A complete show offs.

Especially the newcomers on team A, what they have wasn't something small or could be taken lightly, but still— what's on this company that made them show all of their cards to it?

And mine…

"What on earth is this?"

I was the only one with encrypted information… and somehow it didn't look like something empty.

It was full, too.

Even if the lines in between were completely empty.
