Chapter 1 - Prologue

The first man who received the System believed he had been chosen.

The second believed he had simply been lucky.

The third realized—far too late—that it was neither.

Gold has always been tied to power.

From ancient empires to modern banks, men have crossed oceans, started wars, and destroyed entire kingdoms for its shine. Kings hoarded it in vast vaults. Nations built currencies and economies upon it. And even in the modern age—when digital numbers ruled the financial system—gold remained the purest symbol of wealth.

But there was something few people knew.

Gold could also be a warning.

The coin dropped onto the table with a sharp sound.

Clang.

The man on the other side watched closely, his expression restrained. The room was dim, lit only by an old desk lamp. The air smelled of aged wood and tobacco. Outside, the city was still alive—cars passing, distant lights glowing, people living ordinary lives.

But inside that room, time felt suspended.

Golden light reflected faintly against the cold metal of the gun resting beside the table.

"Is it real?" the man asked.

His voice was low, careful.

The other man nodded slowly.

The coin was perfect.

Exact weight. Flawless purity. No visible imperfections. No irregularities on its surface.

And yet, there was something unusual.

At its center, engraved simply and deeply, was an "X."

It wasn't a national symbol.

It wasn't a mint mark.

It wasn't a central bank signature.

It was a cut.

A mark.

A warning.

The man who had brought the coin looked exhausted. His eyes betrayed sleepless nights. Dark circles and unshaven stubble revealed that he had been dealing with something far beyond ordinary business.

He held more coins inside a small leather pouch.

When he opened it, golden light briefly flooded the table.

"You said you could make more," the buyer murmured.

There was greed in his eyes now.

The supplier took a moment before answering.

"I can."

He spoke slowly.

"As long as there's… raw material."

The buyer frowned.

"Raw material?"

The man simply shrugged.

He didn't explain what that meant.

He never did.

Because, deep down, he didn't fully understand it himself.

All he knew was that the coins appeared.

And they always bore the X.

The buyer smiled, convinced he had found an endless gold mine. His eyes were already calculating impossible numbers. Investments. Laundering. Expansion.

With this, he could buy entire cities.

Influence governments.

Maybe even vanish completely from the world's radar.

He was wrong.

That very night, when he tried to trace the origin of the gold, something happened.

No one heard anything.

No neighbor noticed movement.

No camera recorded an intrusion.

There were no signs of forced entry.

No witnesses.

Only silence.

The next morning, the police found the room untouched.

The door was still locked.

The table remained in place.

The lamp still stood.

The gun was still loaded, exactly where it had been the night before.

But the man… was gone.

No signs of struggle.

No blood.

No clues.

It was as if he had simply ceased to exist.

Only a single golden coin, engraved with an "X," sat perfectly at the center of the table.

Still.

Flawless.

Like a signature.

Far away, somewhere in the world, another coin had just appeared.

And the System was already searching for its next user.
