"A civilization is not remembered by the wars it wins, but by the hope it leaves for those who come after." — Ancient Orinthal Proverb
A New Dawn
Morning light spilled gently across the towers of Aurion Citadel.
For the first time in many years...
the city awakened without the sound of war.
No alarm bells echoed across the walls.
No crimson fire stained the horizon.
No thunder of mechanical legions marched through the plains.
Instead...
the streets slowly filled with life.
Blacksmiths reopened their forges, their hammers ringing like cheerful bells instead of desperate calls to arms. Merchants rolled open wooden shutters that had remained closed throughout the Omnission War. Bakers carried fresh loaves into the marketplace, their warm aroma drifting through streets that had once smelled only of smoke and ash.
Children laughed as they chased one another around a restored bronze fountain.
Only a few months earlier...
that same square had been buried beneath rubble.
An elderly woman stopped beside the fountain, tears quietly filling her eyes. She remembered carrying wounded soldiers through this very place while the city burned.
Now...
children played where heroes had bled.
She smiled.
"Welcome home..."
she whispered to no one in particular.
Across the city, workers from every allied nation rebuilt together.
Iron Legion engineers repaired ancient bronze railways.
Ironhide craftsmen replaced shattered stone columns with newly carved granite.
Nordfrost builders strengthened rooftops using frost-resistant timber.
Hunters from the Serpent Wastes guided supply caravans through the surrounding wilderness.
Sunscorched Reveland mechanics adjusted crawler engines that now hauled timber instead of weapons.
Veilkeeper scouts quietly mapped roads that had vanished during centuries of neglect.
No banners divided them.
No old rivalries remained.
The war had forged something stronger than an alliance.
It had created a family.
The Founder Hall
High above the bustling city stood the Founder Hall.
Sunlight streamed through towering stained-glass windows depicting the founders of Orinthal.
At the center of the chamber rested an enormous circular table crafted from polished bronze and ancient white stone.
Gathered around it were the leaders of the allied nations.
Commander Cassian Rhod.
Marshal Helios Varne.
Master Engineer Rowan Kael.
The chiefs of Ironhide Clan.
The elders of Nordfrost.
Representatives from Sunscorched Reveland.
Veilkeeper captains.
Hunters of the Serpent Wastes.
Scholars.
Builders.
Healers.
For the first time...
none had come to discuss war.
At the head of the chamber stood Orinthal Vael.
Age had bent his shoulders, but not his spirit.
Beside him stood Aurion, watching quietly.
Thomarion remained near one of the great windows, his bronze prosthetic leg resting firmly upon the marble floor.
He said nothing.
He simply listened.
Without ceremony...
Orinthal pulled away a large bronze cloth covering the center of the table.
Gasps filled the chamber.
An enormous map slowly unfolded.
Not of Aurion...
but of the entire known world.
Mountains.
Deserts.
Frozen kingdoms.
Ancient rivers.
Forgotten roads.
Across the map shone twelve bronze stars.
Each marked a city.
Each surrounded by faded inscriptions written in the language of the First Civilization.
Silence settled over the hall.
Many had spent their entire lives believing Aurion was the last great city.
They had been wrong.
Orinthal rested his hand upon the map.
"My friends..."
his voice was calm.
"We survived because Aurion endured."
He slowly moved his hand across the twelve stars.
"But Aurion was never meant to stand alone."
Every eye followed his finger.
"Long before the First War..."
he continued,
"these cities formed the heart of our civilization."
"Each possessed knowledge unlike any other."
"Each protected a different branch of technomagik."
"They traded."
"They learned from one another."
"They built the roads that united our world."
He looked around the chamber.
"And then..."
"The First War came."
The room fell silent.
"No one knows what became of most of them."
"Some may still stand."
"Some may have fallen."
"Some..."
"...may still be waiting."
A Question
One elder slowly rose.
"If these cities still exist..."
"Why did none answer Aurion's call?"
Orinthal closed his eyes.
"I have asked myself that question every day."
His voice grew softer.
"Perhaps they never heard us."
"Perhaps they believed we had fallen."
"Perhaps..."
"They have waited all this time for someone to return."
No one spoke.
The silence carried both hope...
and sorrow.
A New Journey
Aurion stepped forward.
"We rebuilt our home."
He looked toward the great windows overlooking the city.
"But beyond our walls..."
"There are still forgotten roads."
"Forgotten people."
"And forgotten stories."
His gaze returned to the council.
"It is time to find them."
Not as conquerors.
Not as kings.
But as fellow survivors.
Choosing the Expedition
No command was given.
No names were called.
Instead...
Orinthal simply asked one question.
"Who is willing to walk into the unknown?"
For a heartbeat...
the chamber remained still.
Then...
an elderly Ironhide blacksmith stood.
"My hammer rebuilt Aurion."
"It can rebuild another town."
A young engineer raised her hand.
"I want to see the machines our ancestors created."
A doctor smiled.
"Someone has to make sure all of you return alive."
Laughter gently spread through the room.
A teacher stepped forward.
"If we find children..."
"They deserve books."
One after another...
people volunteered.
Hunters.
Builders.
Cartographers.
Mechanics.
Farmers.
Cooks.
Musicians.
Doctors.
Scholars.
No one came seeking glory.
They came because they believed the world deserved another chance.
Near the doorway...
Bardin adjusted the straps of his strange frog exo-suit.
Two mechanical arms unfolded from his back.
One carried a finely crafted violin.
The other held a compact percussion drum.
A young apprentice blinked.
"Master Bardin..."
"You're coming too?"
The bard grinned.
"Every road deserves a song."
Three Brothers
Outside the Founder Hall...
Dorion watched workers rebuilding a damaged watchtower.
He smiled.
"This city doesn't need us anymore."
Lirion joined him carrying a crate filled with battery cells.
"It still needs us."
Dorion looked confused.
Lirion pointed toward the horizon beyond Aurion's walls.
"Just not here."
Sorion quietly approached, the ancient bronze compass resting in his palm.
Its needle slowly drifted.
Not north.
Not south.
Somewhere...
beyond the known roads.
He frowned.
"It's moving again."
Neither of his brothers noticed.
The Journey Begins
As the morning passed...
Aurion Citadel became a city of preparation.
Supply wagons rolled toward the eastern gate.
Mechanical crawlers received final inspections.
Maps were copied.
Tools sharpened.
Seeds packed.
Medicines counted.
Water barrels filled.
This was not an army preparing for war.
It was a civilization preparing to rediscover itself.
Above the city walls...
Thomarion quietly watched.
His eyes followed the wagons below.
Aurion stepped beside him.
"You wish you were going."
Thomarion smiled faintly.
"I've walked enough roads."
His gaze shifted toward the heart of the city.
"My place is here."
Aurion nodded.
"The city still needs its protector."
Far away...
beyond mountains no one had crossed for generations...
unknown roads waited.
Unknown cities slept.
Unknown stories remained untold.
And for the first time since the First War...
someone had chosen to walk toward them.
The age of survival had ended.
The age of discovery...
was about to begin.
