Chapter 9 - Chapter 09

Jung Ah Reum appeared with a studied smile and stepped toward Jae Hyun, who pulled his phone from the inner pocket of his jacket. He tapped absentmindedly, without looking up, observing the young woman from the corner of his eye. His arrogance was subtle but palpable: he savored the contrast between her, nervous and admiring, and himself, calm and in control of the situation. "Perfect, exactly where I wanted to place her," he thought with a slight, mocking smile.

— Mr. Kim… Welcome. We've been eagerly awaiting your arrival. You know, as one of our privileged clients, we've reserved our special room as usual. Would you like some coffee or tea while everything is being prepared?

— Ask my assistant, he replied simply, his fingers still on his phone.

Jung Ah Reum jumped slightly and turned her head behind him. She finally saw Se Ra, who gave her a small, timid smile. The manager furrowed her brows slightly, and Se Ra felt a shiver of discomfort tighten her stomach.

— Your assistant?

Se Ra swallowed, aware that Jae Hyun was savoring her embarrassment. She stepped forward cautiously, her heels lightly clicking on the polished floor, each step amplifying her feeling of fragility and humiliation.

— Of course, Mr. Kim. Please, have a seat, said Jung Ah Reum, in a hypocritically charming tone.

They moved toward comfortable sofas. Jae Hyun sat with natural ease, almost theatrically, letting Se Ra walk behind him like a novice in a world she had not yet dared to explore. His gaze on her was hard and satisfied, admiring the controlled nervousness in every gesture.

— Enjoy your stay. So, Miss Assistant…

— Se Ra… Cho Se Ra, she replied politely, breath short and hands clenched on her knees.

— Very well, Miss Cho Se Ra, would you like coffee or tea?

— Tea, please. Not too hot.

— Very well. I will personally take care of it, replied Jung Ah Reum, walking away, rolling her eyes.

Jae Hyun finally lifted his eyes from his phone and said in a sharp tone:

— When you're not used to a place, pretend that you are and don't show it. It spares you this kind of embarrassment.

Se Ra nervously crossed her fingers, looking up at him with gratitude, but also a bit of fear.

— Thank you, understood.

A few moments later, Jung Ah Reum returned, a steaming cup of tea in hand. She placed it abruptly on the stand near Se Ra, who jumped. Jae Hyun observed her reaction with an almost invisible smile, savoring every hesitant gesture of his assistant.

Se Ra brought the cup to her lips, almost burned herself, and put it down hastily, her cheeks instantly reddening.

— I said I wanted it lukewarm!! she exclaimed, rubbing her chest.

— Sorry for the mistake. Unfortunately, the tea was hot, and I forgot to warn you… replied Jung Ah Reum with a satisfied smile.

Se Ra showed her irritation, trying to contain her anger, aware that the manager had acted deliberately. Jae Hyun allowed himself a discreet smile, savoring the tension and humiliation he was placing upon her. "Let her simmer… exactly as I wanted," he thought, arrogance written in his impassive gaze.

— The restrooms are that way. The door at the end of the hallway. Mr. Kim? If you would kindly follow me…

He stood with elegance, straight and perfect, and followed Jung Ah Reum to another wing of the spa, without a glance at Se Ra. She remained still, anger and admiration mingling in her heart, watching her boss walk away with that mixture of pride and arrogance that made him both fascinating and intimidating. His coffee-stained shirt embarrassed her, but no words left her lips.

The sun was slowly setting behind the buildings, casting a golden light on the sidewalk in front of the spa. The air was still warm, filled with mingling scents of flowers and asphalt heated by the afternoon sun. Kim Jae Hyun stepped out with that natural ease that made him seem as if he owned every space he crossed. Behind him, Se Ra moved cautiously, each step a struggle against her high heels that seemed determined to betray her with every motion.

— This kind of thing must not happen again in my presence, Jae Hyun declared, his voice cold, sharp, yet flawless in its calm.

Se Ra stopped for a moment, outraged. Her hands clenched on her bag as she replied with a mix of anger and frustration:

— But she did everything to provoke me, and you just stood there without saying anything!!

Jae Hyun, standing near the door of his luxurious car, looked at her for a long moment. His eyes shone with an indifferent, almost cruel glint, yet inwardly he savored the scene: her, small and vexed, unable to hide her embarrassment, and him, still above, master of the situation. "She learns quickly to be ridiculous… exactly as I wanted," he thought with a barely perceptible smile.

— If you had shown a little more responsibility, she wouldn't have humiliated you this way, he continued, unlocking the car with a precise, controlled gesture.

— So now you're blaming me?! Se Ra exclaimed, her voice trembling, wavering between anger and humiliation. She clenched her teeth. — She tried to burn me with tea, and you didn't even try to defend me!

Jae Hyun stopped dead, his hard, impassive gaze fixed on hers. Every word, every gesture of Se Ra fed his satisfaction: he delighted in seeing her gradually understand the silent hierarchy that existed between them.

— You'd better get in the car, he finally said, his voice icy. I'm sure she's enjoying your little stunt behind the glass.

Se Ra raised her eyebrows and turned her head toward the spa's large glass window. Inside, Jung Ah Reum was watching them, arms crossed, immobile and sharp like a mirror of what Se Ra had just endured. The young woman inhaled deeply, her heart pounding, and took a determined step toward the vehicle. Every movement on her heels felt like a challenge, but she refused to show vulnerability.

She finally sat in the passenger seat, her hands clutching her bag. A tear, a witness to her frustration and sense of injustice, slid down her cheek. She wiped it quickly, but Jae Hyun did not look away. He observed her, relentless, his coldness as sharp as metal.

— Crying won't help, he declared, terse, almost without emotion, yet each word weighed like a brutal reminder of his dominant position.

Se Ra turned to him, the mixture of anger and sadness evident in her shining eyes.

— Can you leave me alone? she murmured, her voice trembling but resolute.

Jae Hyun ignored her request. With a sure and elegant movement, he started the car, letting the engine purr with power. The urban landscape passed before them, the sounds of horns and engines mingling with the perfumed, adrenaline-charged air of traffic. He knew she was boiling inside, struggling with her frustration and pride. And he savored every second.

Se Ra, her gaze fixed on the window, drew a deep breath. She felt humiliated, exhausted, but a small spark of defiance shone in her eyes. She would not be crushed so easily.

For Jae Hyun, however, everything was exactly as planned: he had placed this young woman at his feet, watching her learn to stand, walk, and breathe under his dominance. And it made him strangely satisfied, almost light, despite his icy arrogance.

The engine purred, the traffic flowed on endlessly, and the car drove away from the spa, carrying with it a mixture of tension, pride, and silent revenge.
