No one dared to move.
The glowing words on the ancient iron door slowly faded into the darkness, leaving behind an uneasy silence. The forest surrounding the old clock tower had become strangely quiet. Even the rain had stopped, as though nature itself was waiting for someone to make the first move.
Ethan stared at the door before looking back at Principal Walker.
"You said four students entered the archive."
"I did."
"But the photograph showed five people."
Principal Walker lowered his head.
"That's because... there were five."
Everyone looked at him in disbelief.
Lucas was the first to speak.
"You've been telling us there were only four."
"I wasn't lying."
"I simply... couldn't remember."
A confused expression spread across Noah's face.
"What does that even mean?"
The principal slowly opened the leather folder again. This time, he removed an old handwritten report. The pages were yellow with age, and several lines had faded beyond recognition.
"I've read this report hundreds of times," he whispered. "Every time I reach the final page..."
He looked at Ethan.
"...I forget the last name written here."
He handed the report to Ethan.
At the bottom of the page were five signatures.
Daniel Carter.
Emma Collins.
Adrian Reed.
Ryan Brooks.
The fifth signature...
Was missing.
Not erased.
Not scratched out.
It simply... wasn't there anymore.
Only an empty space remained.
Olivia felt a chill run through her body.
"It's like someone removed the name itself."
Lucas nodded slowly.
"My brother wrote something similar."
He reached into his pocket and unfolded a small, worn piece of paper.
"I found this years ago inside one of Adrian's books."
He began reading aloud.
*"If one of us is forgotten... none of us will ever truly leave this place."*
Silence.
Ethan looked toward the iron door once again.
"So the archive isn't hiding documents."
"It's hiding a person."
"No," Principal Walker corrected gently.
"It's protecting one."
---
Without warning, Elena felt the crescent moon pendant around her neck grow warm.
She instinctively grabbed it.
"Do you feel that?"
Everyone turned toward her.
"The necklace..."
"It's getting hotter."
A faint silver glow spread across the pendant, illuminating her hands.
Lucas took a slow step backward.
"I've seen that symbol before."
"Where?"
"My brother drew it beside only one name."
"What name?"
Lucas closed his eyes, trying desperately to remember.
"I can't..."
"It disappears every time."
Frustrated, he pressed his fingers against his temples.
"I know it..."
"I know I've read it..."
"But every time I try to remember..."
His voice trailed off.
"...it's gone."
Ethan noticed something unusual.
As Elena's necklace continued glowing, the vines covering the ancient iron door slowly began moving aside.
Behind them...
Another carving appeared.
One that hadn't been visible before.
A crescent moon.
Exactly like the pendant.
---
Noah looked completely speechless.
"I think we've officially crossed into supernatural territory."
Olivia swallowed nervously.
"I stopped trying to explain things three chapters ago."
Despite the tension, Ethan couldn't help smiling for a second.
Then his attention returned to the glowing symbol.
Almost instinctively, Elena stepped closer to the door.
"No..."
Principal Walker said firmly.
"Don't touch it."
But it was too late.
The pendant floated slightly away from Elena's chest.
A thin beam of silver light connected it to the carving on the door.
The entire entrance trembled.
A deep rumbling echoed beneath the ground.
Then...
The three keyholes disappeared.
The locks melted into the iron as though they had never existed.
A narrow opening slowly appeared in the center of the massive door.
Cold air rushed out from the darkness beyond.
The archive had opened.
No key had been used.
No lock had been turned.
The door had opened...
For Elena.
Principal Walker stared at her with disbelief.
His voice barely rose above a whisper.
"So that's why..."
Lucas looked equally shocked.
"The fourth key..."
He slowly shook his head.
"No..."
"It was never Ethan."
"It was never the silver keys."
His eyes remained fixed on Elena.
"The archive was waiting..."
"...for the girl with the crescent moon."
From somewhere deep inside the darkness beyond the doorway...
A soft female voice echoed through the tunnel.
It wasn't loud.
It wasn't frightening.
It sounded... familiar.
"Welcome back..."
