Caleb's POV
The final bell had released us from another day of classes, and I made my way toward the parking lot where we always met. Mason was perched on his car hood while Jace stood nearby, deep in conversation. The moment they spotted me approaching, Mason's eyes swept the area behind me with obvious expectation.
"Looking for something?" I asked, unable to hide my amusement at his searching gaze.
Mason shifted his attention back to me, that familiar smile crossing his features. "Just waiting for Riley to show up." His eyes darted past my shoulder once more, clearly hoping she'd appear.
"Didn't she have last period with you?" I directed the question toward Jace, who gave a quick nod in response.
"She did, but she bolted straight to her locker when the bell rang. Figured she'd catch up with us out here like always." Jace's shoulders lifted in a casual shrug, though something in his tone suggested he was starting to wonder too.
