Chapter 12 - CHOOSE ME OR LEAVE

The office was silent.

Tense.

Heavy.

Amara's father stood tall, his presence filling the room.

Kian stood opposite him.

Unmoving.

Unshaken.

"Leave," her father said calmly.

Kian didn't move.

"I'm not done."

That response made the room even colder.

Amara stepped slightly forward.

"Kian…"

But he didn't look at her.

His eyes were still on her father.

"You said she doesn't have a choice," Kian continued.

"But she just told you her choice."

A pause.

Her father's expression didn't change.

"You're speaking out of emotion."

Kian replied instantly:

"And you're ignoring her completely."

Silence.

The principal shifted uncomfortably.

This had gone beyond school authority.

Amara's father finally looked at Kian properly.

Measured him.

"You think you understand her situation?" he asked.

Kian didn't hesitate.

"No."

A pause.

"But I understand that forcing someone isn't right."

That answer landed.

Amara looked at Kian again.

Her chest tightened slightly.

Her father turned back to her.

"This is exactly the problem," he said.

"You let outsiders influence you."

Amara's voice came out stronger this time:

"No."

Silence.

"I chose this," she said.

That was different.

Not defensive.

Not quiet.

Firm.

Her father's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Then choose properly."

A pause.

"Come back now… or don't come back at all."

The words echoed in the room.

Kian's expression changed.

That wasn't a request.

That was an ultimatum.

Amara froze.

Just for a second.

Then reality settled in.

Everything she had been avoiding…

Had finally caught up.

Silence stretched.

Kian looked at her.

Waiting.

Not forcing.

Not interrupting.

Just there.

Amara's mind raced.

Family.

Control.

Expectations.

Her past.

Her future.

Then…

Her eyes slowly shifted toward Kian.

And for the first time—

She didn't look guarded.

She looked… vulnerable.

"What if I stay?" she asked quietly.

The question wasn't just to her father.

It was to herself.

Her father answered coldly:

"Then you're no longer part of this family."

Silence.

That was it.

The final line.

Amara's fingers trembled slightly.

But her face stayed calm.

Kian stepped closer.

Not too close.

Just enough.

"You don't have to go back," he said softly.

Those words hit deeper than anything else.

Because no one had ever said that to her before.

No one had ever given her that option.

Amara looked at him.

Her eyes searching.

"Do you even understand what you're saying?" she whispered.

Kian nodded.

"Yes."

A pause.

"I'm saying… you can choose yourself."

Silence.

Tears almost formed in Amara's eyes…

But she held them back.

Her father's voice cut through:

"Enough."

Amara turned back to him.

And then—

She made her choice.

"I'm staying."

The words were quiet.

But powerful.

The room froze.

Her father stared at her.

Long.

Hard.

Then he spoke:

"…Then you're on your own."

He turned.

And walked out.

Just like that.

The door closed.

And something inside Amara…

Changed forever.

Silence filled the room again.

But this time…

It wasn't heavy.

It was empty.

Kian looked at her.

Carefully.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Amara didn't answer immediately.

Because for the first time…

She didn't know.

Outside the office…

Brielle stood still.

Watching.

Her expression unreadable.

"…You actually did it," she whispered.

But something in her voice had changed.

This wasn't just revenge anymore.

This had become something bigger.

Something even she didn't fully control.
