Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: ₹50 Crore Mistake

The night smelled like failure.

Aarav Verma sat on the broken concrete step outside a closed tea stall, his back pressed against the cold metal shutter. The city buzzed in the distance—cars, laughter, life—but here… everything felt paused.

Like the world had moved on without him.

He opened his wallet again.

Empty.

No surprise.

Still, he checked.

Maybe money magically appeared this time.

It didn't.

A bitter smile crossed his face as he flipped it upside down. A few coins dropped into his palm.

"One… two… three…"

Seventeen rupees.

₹17.

That was his net worth.

A 23-year-old graduate. No job. No future. No one waiting for him at home.

"Congratulations, Aarav," he muttered under his breath, "you've officially failed life."

Above him, the streetlight flickered—on… off… on… off…

Like it couldn't decide whether he deserved light or darkness.

His phone vibrated.

He didn't react at first.

Probably another spam message. Loan offers. Fake job alerts. Or worse—bank warnings.

The vibration stopped.

Then again.

BZZZT.

Annoyed, Aarav pulled out his phone. The screen lit up, illuminating his tired face.

Unknown Number.

He frowned.

"Who even texts at this hour…"

He unlocked it lazily.

And froze.

"Transaction Successful: ₹50,00,00,000 credited to your account."

For a moment… nothing moved.

No breath.

No thought.

No sound.

Then—

"…what?"

Aarav blinked.

Once.

Twice.

"Okay… I'm dreaming."

He rubbed his eyes hard and looked again.

Same message.

Same amount.

Fifty.

Crore.

His heart started pounding.

"No… no, no, no… this is fake."

His fingers trembled as he opened his banking app.

Password wrong.

"Damn it!"

He typed again.

Wrong.

"Focus, Aarav… focus!"

Third try.

The app opened.

Loading…

Loading…

Each second felt like torture.

Then—

The screen refreshed.

And everything changed.

Account Balance: ₹50,00,00,117

The phone nearly slipped from his hand.

"…this isn't real."

His chest tightened. His breathing turned shallow.

"THIS IS NOT REAL."

He stood up abruptly, pacing like a madman.

"Bank error. Definitely bank error."

But deep down…

Something felt wrong.

Too wrong.

Before he could process further—

PING.

Another message.

Same unknown number.

"Don't panic."

Aarav's blood ran cold.

"…what?"

His eyes scanned the empty street.

Left.

Right.

Behind.

No one.

Yet—

That message didn't feel random.

It felt… personal.

Another vibration.

"You've been selected."

His throat went dry.

"Selected for what?"

He typed quickly:

"Who is this?"

No reply.

Instead—

The wind suddenly felt heavier.

The silence… unnatural.

And then—

Headlights cut through the darkness.

A sleek black car turned into the narrow lane and stopped right in front of him.

Aarav stepped back instinctively.

The engine turned off.

The door opened slowly.

Click.

Two men stepped out.

Black suits.

Black shoes.

Black expressions.

They didn't look like normal people.

They looked like decisions.

Permanent ones.

One of them adjusted his cufflinks and walked toward Aarav.

Calm.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

"Mr. Aarav Verma," the man said, his voice smooth yet heavy, "we've been expecting you."

Aarav swallowed.

"I think… you've got the wrong person."

The man smiled faintly.

"No," he said."We never make mistakes."

A pause.

Then he stepped closer.

Too close.

Aarav could feel the pressure of his presence.

"But in your case…" the man continued softly,"a mistake has definitely been made."

Hope flickered in Aarav's chest.

"Then fix it," he said quickly. "Take the money back. I don't want it."

The second man chuckled.

Low.

Cold.

"Take it back?" he repeated.

The first man's smile widened slightly.

"Oh, Mr. Verma…"

He leaned in.

And whispered—

"You ARE the mistake."

Aarav's heart skipped.

"What does that even—"

BANG!

A gunshot exploded through the night.

The streetlight above them shattered instantly.

Glass rained down like sharp crystals.

Darkness swallowed everything.

Aarav flinched, stumbling back.

"WHAT THE—?!"

Before he could react—

A hand grabbed his collar.

Hard.

He was slammed against the wall.

Pain shot through his back.

"Listen carefully," the man's voice turned ice-cold, "you have exactly one chance to survive."

Aarav's breathing became erratic.

"Survive what?!"

Another gunshot echoed in the distance.

Not close.

But not far either.

The second man looked around sharply.

"They're early."

"They always are," the first replied calmly.

Aarav's eyes widened.

"They? Who the hell is 'they'?!"

The man ignored the question.

Instead, he pulled out Aarav's phone, unlocked it in one smooth motion, and showed him the screen.

That same balance.

₹50 crores.

"From this moment," the man said slowly,"you are no longer poor."

A pause.

Then—

"You are a billionaire."

Aarav shook his head violently.

"No. I don't want this. Take it back. Please."

For the first time…

The man's expression changed.

From calm…

To something darker.

"That's not how this works."

Another distant gunshot.

Closer this time.

The second man spoke urgently, "We're running out of time."

The first man nodded.

Then looked straight into Aarav's eyes.

And said—

"Welcome to the game."

Suddenly—

A bullet whizzed past Aarav's ear.

WHOOSH—CRACK!

The car's window shattered.

"DOWN!" the second man shouted.

Aarav dropped instinctively, his mind blank with terror.

"Who's shooting?!" he screamed.

No answer.

Only chaos.

The first man grabbed Aarav's arm and dragged him toward the car.

"Move if you want to live!"

"I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING!"

"You will," the man said coldly, "if you survive the next five minutes."

Another shot.

Closer.

Louder.

Aarav's heart pounded so violently it felt like it would explode.

This wasn't a dream.

This wasn't luck.

This wasn't money.

This was—

A trap.

A deadly, inescapable trap.

As he was shoved into the car, one final thought echoed in his mind:

₹50 crores wasn't a blessing.

It was a death sentence.
