Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: SECRET

Kaizer's POV

The night outside was very dark. We were alone on an abandoned street, thunder roaring around our car.

The car's tyres screeched every time it slipped and lost balance on the road.

Suddenly, a large scrap of cloth hit the front window, followed by a hard object.

"Mumma!!!!!!"

I jolted awake from this familiar dream. Every time, I wake up shouting… completely helpless.

It was already 8 in the morning. People my age might be excited for the first day of another high school year, but I still planned to stay in my room all day.

"Hey Kaizer!! Are you still sleeping? Just wake up and come with me."

Someone was knocking on my door. It had to be him—the only person I could call my friend. Lux.

He was here again.

I opened the door, and he marched inside wearing his uniform.

"Why are you not ready yet?" he asked.

*Might be watching girls at night…*

He didn't say it aloud.

But I heard it.

I quickly picked up a pillow and threw it straight at his face.

"Don't even think about those rubbish things."

Although I wanted to curse him, I controlled myself.

"About what?" he asked, as if he didn't know.

"That I was watching girls, blah, blah, blah…" I said, preparing to go back to sleep.

"Here you go again. How can you know something I didn't say aloud?" Lux asked.

He was getting suspicious. And I knew he would eventually understand.

But I didn't want to tell him.

Not yet.

I was just about to lie down again when my phone beeped. It was my uncle's message.

Uncle: Dear, your mumma would have really liked watching her son ace his school. Please return to your studies… for her.

Though I wanted to block him again, I couldn't after reading that.

I'm doing this for Mumma. Not for him.

Maybe I should just use earplugs.

I got up and changed into my uniform while Lux was still immersed in his phone. He looked up, surprised, when I suddenly stood in front of him, ready to leave.

"Can you not give me these minor heart attacks? I thought I'd be able to take a leave today," he said.

We left home. Since we were already late, we took the bus instead of walking.

I quickly put on my earpods before boarding.

The bus was silent.

But inside my head… the noise never stopped.

*Why is she dressed—*

*I might be late again—*

*God, that guy is damn handsome—*

*I want her notes—*

*Sister Iris—*

Suddenly, my focus shifted to the guy beside me.

I don't know why, but my mind became calm after hearing that name.

Maybe I know her.

Or maybe I don't.

"Iris," I said out loud.

"Yeah, Sister Iris came first again. She might be the brightest student out there. I really need to go under her mercy to improve my grades," Lux started blabbering, making those faint noises disappear.

"Why do you call her 'sister'? She's just a year older than us. Just call her senior… or by her name," I said, annoyed.

"Because I need this 'sister' to level up my grades. And as you know, studious girls are not my type—so she's my sister," he said.

"Maybe you can try on her. She might like you back."

He earned a glare.

"Idiot."

We soon reached the familiar building of our high school. After three or four months, I was finally back.

I thought we were late.

But then we saw a girl walking in leisurely, as if time didn't matter.

"Is that Sister Iris?!" the idiot beside me exclaimed.

My eyes followed her.

And for some reason…

the noise in my head went completely silent.
