Chapter 1 - A man lost in the crowd

New colonies have been built far and wide. Still, like me, countless people are wandering for houses. This is a bad result of the growing population in our country. The population is increasing, houses and food grains are decreasing.

At the same time, Shyamala ji's wife came with snacks. Behind her were her three small girls and two small boys holding her pallu. I was stunned to see her weak body and pale face. I asked - How long have you been unwell? Are you not showing a doctor and getting treated? She smiled a faint smile. She said- "Brother, in such a large family, someone or the other is sick every day. I went to the hospital to show the doctor, but nowadays in hospitals, patients and their relatives surround the doctor like a beehive. How well can he see each and every one? Nowadays it seems as if the whole city has thronged the hospital. I don't understand why there is such a crowd?

Now look here! My health is also a bit weak. I thought I would get the wedding clothes stitched by a tailor. I sent my eldest son to the tailor's shop. But whichever shop he went to, every tailor expressed his helplessness by showing a pile of clothes that had already come for stitching. Earlier, the customer was welcomed, but now he also has to plead a little, yet the work is not done on time. More shops have opened than before, but they are still falling short for the increasing crowd of customers.

Then the tired, irritated voice of the second son, Sumit, was heard from outside - "Mom, quickly make a cup of tea. Today the whole day was spent at the ration shop. There was such a crowd that the line seemed endless. Still, I couldn't get all the items."

I started thinking, what is the reason for all this? There are shops in every neighborhood, and houses have been built more than ever before and are still being built. Many avenues of employment have emerged. The number of trains and buses has increased more than before, medical facilities have expanded, yet people's needs are not being met. Wherever you look, there are crowds everywhere. Why does this crowd keep growing? Is man himself not responsible for this?

There is a crowd of children at home. This crowd may seem nice to us, but unless there is a complete system for the upbringing, living standards, and education of the children, this crowd becomes painful. Why is there a crowd at the hospital? Does this crowd please anyone? Does anyone get sick voluntarily? No, no one wants to get sick on their own. Sickness happens due to malnutrition, from the polluted environment of dirty and narrow houses. If the family is limited, the climate is clean, and there is plenty of food available, one can avoid illness. The reason for the crowd in trains and buses is also the increasing population. It adversely affects the discipline of the country. Accidents happen on the road. Rules and order are not followed in public places. The work for which a person goes to offices, courts, hospitals, stations, etc., he is unable to accomplish that work even after spending time, energy, and money; he himself gets lost in the crowd. A person lost in the crowd probably understands this much...that this is the result of the increasing population. I do not need to tell the secret of this crowd to my friend Shyamalakant now, because he himself is suffering this calamity.

It seems that if our country still does not wake up in time and keeps growing its family like Shyamala Babu, that day is not far when it will completely lose itself in this crowd and the problems arising from it.
