Chapter 1 - Chapter One: The Woman Who Took My Place

The man I married five years ago looked me straight in the eyes… and introduced another woman as his wife.

"Kristine, this is Maicah—my wife. The love of my life."

My world shattered.

"No…" My voice trembled. "No, that's not true. I'm your wife."

"Adrian! Adrian!" I screamed as I pushed past the gates.

"Ma'am, please—Sir Adrian will get mad at us!" the security guard pleaded, trying to stop me.

"Manong Mel, please… I just need to talk to him," I begged, my voice breaking.

The moment he hesitated, I ran.

Straight into the house that used to be mine.

"Adriaaaan!" I called out again, my voice echoing through the halls.

"Kristine?"

I froze.

He stood at the staircase, looking at me like I was a stranger. "What are you doing here? And why are you shouting like that?" he asked, confusion written all over his face.

Confusion.

As if I didn't belong here.

As if I wasn't his—

"Sir, sorry… she wouldn't listen," Manong Mel explained nervously behind me.

Adrian simply nodded.

Then he turned to walk away.

Panic surged through me.

"Adrian, listen to me—I'm your—"

The words died in my throat.

Because she appeared.

"Hon, who are you talking to?" the woman asked sweetly as she walked down the stairs and slipped her arm around his.

Her.

The woman who took my place. Adrian smiled at her.

Smiled.

"Oh, come here, honey. This is Kristine… a childhood friend," he said casually. "Kristine, meet my wife, Maicah—the love of my life."

His wife.

That word hit harder than any slap.

Maicah smiled and extended her hand. "Nice to meet—"

"NO!"

My scream cut through the air.

"She's not your wife! I am your wife!" I cried, grabbing Adrian's face, forcing him to look at me. "This woman is not your wife! I don't know who she is, but—"

"KRISTINE!"

His hands gripped my shoulders tightly.

"What is wrong with you!?" he snapped.

"What are you saying? She is my wife. We've been married for five years!"

"No… no… no…" I shook my head violently, my chest tightening as everything collapsed around me.

Five years?

That was our marriage.

"She's lying! She's a fraud! Who are you!?" I turned on the woman, rage boiling through my veins.

I lunged at her.

She shrieked and hid behind Adrian, clinging to him like she belonged there.

Like she had the right.

I grabbed her hair and slapped her, my hands trembling.

"Stop it!" Adrian roared.

He yanked me back and shoved me to the floor.

Pain shot through my body—but it was nothing compared to what I felt inside.

"Leave, Kristine," he said coldly. "Before I call the police."

Cold.

Distant.

Like I meant nothing.

Manong Mel helped me up, guiding me out of the house.

Our house.

But the gates closed on me like I had never belonged there.

How did everything end up like this?

🌪️ FLASHBACK 🌪️

I woke up in a hospital surrounded by strangers.

They cried.

They held my hand.

They told me they loved me.

But I didn't recognize any of them.

"Doctor, why doesn't my daughter recognize us?" the older man asked, his voice trembling.

Daughter?

My heart pounded.

"Amnesia is possible due to the trauma," the doctor explained. "We'll need to run more tests."

Amnesia?

No.

That wasn't it. Because I knew exactly who I was. And these people…

Were not my family.

When I was discharged, I had no choice but to go with them.

That was when everything truly began to fall apart.

Days turned into weeks… and I was forced to live a life that didn't feel like mine.

"AHHHH!"

My scream echoed inside the bathroom.

My hands gripped the sink as I stared at the mirror. At the face staring back at me.

"This… this isn't mine," I whispered, my voice shaking.

"Honey? What's wrong?" the woman—who claimed to be my mother—asked, rushing in.

"This isn't my face!" I cried.

She blinked. "What do you mean? Is there something wrong with it?"

"What did you do to me!?" I demanded, panic rising in my chest.

She looked confused.

Then she said it so casually—

"You had plastic surgery, honey."

My knees gave out.

The world spun. I collapsed to the floor, sobbing. I just wanted my life back.

My real face.

My husband.

A month later, they finally let me go "home."

So I went straight to Adrian.

To my husband.

To the man who was supposed to be mine.

But he rejected me.

Because someone else had already taken my place.

I returned to my condo.

My home.

Or at least… what they say is mine.

My condo looked like a disaster zone.

Broken glass. Scattered furniture. Total chaos.

Mine.

Everything here belonged to me.

Kristine Angela A. Roxas.

And yet…

None of it felt real.

I lost control. I destroyed everything in sight.

Screaming.

Crying.

Breaking.

Because in a single moment…

I lost everything.

My husband.

My happiness.

My identity.

Myself.

If I couldn't win him back with love…

Then I would take him back another way.
