Ever since I was little, I loved football. The feel of the ball at my feet, the sound of it hitting the goalpost, the thrill of running across the field—it made my heart race. I would watch matches on TV for hours, imitating my favorite players in the backyard, imagining the cheers of a stadium, dreaming that one day, I would play professionally.
But there was one problem: I was a girl.
In my town, girls didn't play football. It wasn't considered "appropriate" or "serious." People would laugh or shake their heads whenever I kicked a ball around. "Girls should focus on other things," they said. And slowly, I started hearing it too—from teachers, neighbors, even some friends.
Still, I tried. I joined a small local team, hoping that talent would matter more than gender. But the team was mostly boys, and the coach seemed hesitant about letting me play. I remember one match where I ran as fast as I could, chasing the ball, only to be told I couldn't join the next practice because it wasn't "for girls." That day, I felt my dream slipping out of reach.
Yet, even with all the obstacles, that spark never died. Football became my secret world, a place where I could be free, if only for a little while. And in my heart, I kept hoping that someday, the world would let me play.
That dream—simple, pure, but impossible in the eyes of many—was the beginning of my journey.
