Chapter 13 - Silent Lives, Hidden Battles

Chapter 13: Choosing to Stay

Part 3:

The city didn't change.

It never did.

The same noise.

The same rush.

The same endless movement of people trying to get somewhere.

But for Arif-

Everything felt different.

The hospital had become his world.

White walls.

Cold air.

The constant sound of machines.

Time moved slowly there.

Too slowly.

Arif sat outside his mother's room, staring at the floor.

He hadn't slept properly in days.

His eyes burned.

His body felt heavy.

"I'm tired...." he whispered.

Not just physically.

Everything inside him felt worn-out.

He held the hospital bill in his hand.

Numbers that didn't make sense.

Amounts he couldn't afford.

"I can't keep doing this....."he said quietly.

For the first time-

He allowed himself to admit it.

His phone vibrated.

Nira.

"Did you eat?" She asked.

Arif looked at the message.

Even now-

Someone was thinking about him.

"No," he replied.

"Not really hungry. "

A few seconds later-

"Eat something. You won't survive like this. "

He let out a small breath.

Almost a laugh.

"Trying, "he typed.

Then came another message-

"Don't try alone. "

Arif started at those words.

For so long-

He had been carrying everything by himself.

Responsibility.

Fear.

Pressure.

But maybe-

He didn't have to.

Inside the room-

His mother lay quietly.

Her breathing slow but steady.

Arif walked in.

Sat beside her.

Held her hand.

"I'll figure it out, "he wishpeard.

"I don't know how ....but I will. "

This time-

It didn't feel like Pressure.

It felt like a promise.

Across the city-

Nira stood in front of her father.

Her heart wad pounding.

Her hands slightly shaking.

"I need to say something, "she said.

Her father looked up.

"What is it?"

For years-

She had stayed silent.

Tried to be perfect.

Tried to meet every expectation.

But tonight-

She couldn't anymore.

"I'm tried, "she said.

Her voice trembled-

But she didn't stop.

"I'm trying my best....but it's never enough for you."

Silence filled the room.

Her father frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean....I'm not perfect. "

Nira replied.

"And I can't be."

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"I just want you to see me.....no my results. "

For the first time.

She spoke her truth.

Her father didn't respond Immediately.

He just looked at her.

As if seeing her for the first time.

The Silence stretched.

But it felt different.

Not heavy.

Not suffocating.

Something had changed.

Days passed.

Arif kept fighting.

He applied for help.

Took extra work.

Skipped sleep.

It wasn't easy.

It never was.

But now-

He wasn't alone.

Nira checked on him every day.

Small messages.

Simple words.

"Did you sleep?"

"Don't skip meals. "

"You'll get through this. "

And somehow-

They mattered.

Nira changed too.

She didn't become fearless overnight.

She still felt pressure.

Still had doubts.

But she started speaking.

Little by little.

And that was enough.

One evening-

They finally met again.

The same clothing store.

The same place where everything had started.

Nira stood near the counter.

Arif looked up.

For a moment-

They just looked at each other.

No words.

Just understanding.

Then-

Nira smile.

"Hi."

Arif smiled back.

"Hi."

It wasn't a dramatic moment.

Nothing big happened.

But something important existed between them.

They weren't strangers anymore.

They were two people-

Who understood what it meant to carry something heavy and still keep going.

Outside-

The city moved as always.

Busy. Loud. Unaware.

No one knew their stories.

No one saw their struggles.

But that didn't matter.

Because they knew.

And sometimes-

That's enough.

Life didn't suddenly become easy.

Problems didn't disappear.

But they made a choice.

To stay.

To try.

To keep going.

Even when it felt impossible.

Because strength isn't always loud.

Sometimes-

It's quite-

Sometimes-

It's just waking up again.

Trying again.

Holding on-

One more day.

"Not everyone who stays is strong. Some just chose not to give up."

"Which moment in this story stayed with you the most and why? And are you really okay?"
