Chapter 1 - Bride of the Shadow King

Chapter 1: The Bride of Darkness

The night the sky turned completely black…

was the night her life was no longer her own.

Wind howled through the silent village, carrying whispers of fear from every corner. Doors were shut tightly. Lights were blown out. Even the bravest men hid behind locked walls.

Because tonight…

the Shadow King would choose his bride.

Liora stood in the center of the village square, her hands trembling slightly under the thin white cloth wrapped around her body.

A bride.

That's what they called it.

But everyone knew the truth.

It was a sacrifice.

"Please… there must be another way," her mother sobbed, clutching onto the village chief's robe.

The old man's face remained cold, emotionless.

"There is no other way," he replied firmly. "If we refuse… the entire village will be swallowed by darkness."

A wave of murmurs spread through the crowd.

Fear.

Selfish fear.

Liora closed her eyes slowly.

So this is how it ends…

Not in love. Not in happiness.

But as an offering to a monster.

"Liora…"

She turned her head slightly. Her childhood friend, Kael, stood at the edge of the crowd, his fists clenched tightly.

"I'll find a way. I promise. Just—don't go."

For a moment, her heart wavered.

She wanted to run.

She wanted to live.

But…

If she runs, everyone dies.

A soft, sad smile appeared on her lips.

"It's okay," she whispered. "This is my fate."

"No!" Kael stepped forward, but the guards immediately blocked his path.

"Let her go!" he shouted, struggling against them.

Liora didn't look back again.

Because if she did…

she wouldn't have the strength to walk forward.

The sky darkened even more.

Then—

The shadows moved.

Not like normal shadows.

They twisted.

They breathed.

They came alive.

Gasps filled the air as black mist spread across the ground, swallowing the light beneath it.

And from within that darkness…

He appeared.

Tall. Towering. Wrapped in shadows that seemed to cling to his very existence.

A crown rested upon his head—sharp, dark, and terrifying.

And his eyes…

glowed red like burning embers in the night.

The Shadow King.

No one dared to breathe.

No one dared to look at him directly.

But Liora…

she did.

Her heart pounded violently in her chest as their eyes met.

This is the monster…?

He didn't move at first.

He simply stared at her.

As if judging her.

As if deciding whether she was worth taking.

A cold voice finally echoed through the silent night—

"Step forward."

The command was simple.

Yet it carried a weight that crushed everything in its path.

Liora's legs felt heavy.

But she forced herself to move.

One step.

Then another.

Until she stood directly before him.

Up close… he was even more terrifying.

Dark armor. Shadows swirling around him like living creatures. A presence that made it hard to even breathe.

And yet…

there was something else.

Something hidden beneath all that darkness.

Pain.

"Do you fear me?" he asked.

His voice was low. Deep. Dangerous.

Liora swallowed hard.

Her body screamed at her to say yes.

To kneel. To beg. To cry.

But instead…

she shook her head.

"No."

A flicker of surprise crossed his glowing eyes.

The villagers gasped in horror.

She just lied to the Shadow King…

But Liora held her ground.

Even if she was afraid…

she refused to show it.

For a long moment, silence stretched between them.

Then suddenly—

A shadow moved.

Before she could react, darkness wrapped around her wrist like a chain.

She flinched.

The cold… it burned.

"From this moment," the Shadow King said, his voice echoing like a curse,

"you belong to me."

The words sent a chill down her spine.

Belong…

Not marry.

Not protect.

Own.

The ground beneath her feet disappeared.

A scream rose from the crowd as shadows swallowed them both whole.

Kael's voice broke through the chaos—

"LIORA!!!"

But it was too late.

The darkness closed in completely.

Silence.

Cold.

Endless darkness.

Liora felt her body drop onto something hard.

Stone.

Slowly, she opened her eyes.

A massive hall stretched before her, lit only by flickering blue flames.

Dark pillars. Endless shadows. A throne at the far end…

This place…

It felt like death.

"You are now in my kingdom," his voice echoed behind her.

She turned sharply.

He stood there, watching her like a predator watching its prey.

"Welcome… to the land of shadows."

Her breath caught in her throat.

This was real.

There was no escape.

No return.

She was truly…

the bride of the Shadow King.

But what she didn't know was—

This marriage…

would not only change her fate.

It would change his as well.
