Chapter 1 - Episode 1: The Spider's First Thread

The rain-slicked streets of New Shanghai gleamed under the neon glare of holographic billboards that towered like watchful goddesses. Li Wei kept his head down, shoulders hunched against the damp chill that seeped through his threadbare jacket. It was the same jacket he'd worn for three years—standard issue for "service males," the kind with the mandatory barcode tattooed on the collar so the Enforcers could scan him at any checkpoint.

Women strode past in sleek power suits and spiked heels that clicked like executioner's blades on the pavement. Their laughter rang out sharp and commanding, echoing off glass towers that bore the crests of the Eternal Matriarchy. Men like him moved in single file along the edges of the sidewalks, eyes fixed on their shoes, carrying shopping bags or leashed pets or nothing at all. One wrong glance, one slow step, and a female officer's stun baton would light up the night. Li Wei had learned that lesson the hard way in his first life.

First life. The words tasted like blood in his mouth. He remembered everything now—the betrayal, the chase, the bullet that had punched through his chest while he screamed the truth no one wanted to hear. He had uncovered the Archive. The hidden servers beneath the Grand Citadel that proved the Matriarchy's "perfect harmony" was built on engineered slavery: pheromones pumped into the air to keep males docile, gene mods that stunted male aggression, and public executions broadcast as entertainment. He had tried to upload the files. They had hunted him like a rabid dog. And they had won.

But death had not been the end. It had been the door.

Now he was back. Same night. Same hour. The cheap digital watch on his wrist read 23:47. He was supposed to be heading to the 24-hour convenience store three blocks away for a packet of nutrient paste and maybe a stolen cigarette if the clerk—a bored mid-level female—looked the other way. Routine. Hopeless. Until this moment.

Li Wei's boots splashed through a puddle. His heart hammered with something he hadn't felt in years: pure, venomous rage. The memory of his death was still fresh—hot copper on his tongue, the laughter of the Enforcer captain as she pressed the gun to his forehead. "You thought you could challenge us, little spider?" she had sneered. Spider. The insult they used for any male who dared weave his own web.

He turned left into the narrow alley behind the old textile factory. It was a shortcut he never took in his first life because the shadows were too deep and the cameras too few. Tonight the risk felt like freedom.

The alley smelled of wet concrete, rotting takeout, and something sharper—ozone, like right before lightning. A faint blue glow pulsed from behind a stack of discarded shipping crates. Li Wei froze. His first instinct was to run. His second was to laugh bitterly. What did he have left to lose?

He stepped closer.

The glow came from a metal box the size of a lunch pail, half-buried under trash. Ancient runes—Chinese, but twisted with something older—etched its surface. The lid was cracked open just enough to spill that eerie light. Li Wei's fingers trembled as he reached out. The metal was warm, almost alive. He lifted the lid.

Inside, the box was empty except for a single obsidian orb no bigger than a marble. It floated, spinning slowly. Then it shattered.

Black smoke poured out, coiling into a figure no taller than a child. Horns curved back from a delicate forehead. Skin like polished marble veined with silver. Eyes the color of fresh blood. A tail flicked lazily behind him, tipped with a heart-shaped barb. An incubus—small, beautiful, and radiating pure, wicked hunger.

The creature tilted its head, lips curving into a smile that promised both ecstasy and ruin. "Well, well. A lost little male with fire in his veins. Tell me, mortal… what is your heart's deepest desire?"

Li Wei's voice came out raw, scraped from the darkest corner of his soul. "I want to fuck every last one of those bitches who broke me. I want them on their knees, begging, screaming my name while I tear their perfect world apart. I want revenge so complete they'll curse the day they ever looked down on a man."

The incubus's smile widened, fangs glinting. He clapped slowly, the sound echoing like distant thunder. "Delicious. Raw. Honest. Most wish for money, power, or a pretty face to warm their bed. You… you wish for the throne itself, built on their broken crowns." He floated closer, small hand extended. "I am Asmodeus, bound and bored. Make a contract with me, Li Wei, and I will give you the venom you crave."

Li Wei didn't hesitate. "What's the price?"

Asmodeus's laugh was silk over broken glass. "You must unseal me. Every time you claim one of their queens, every time you weave your web tighter around their empire, my chains loosen. Fail, and I drag your soul down with me. Succeed…" He shrugged, tail curling. "The world burns in the way you want it to burn."

A scroll of crimson light unfurled between them. Li Wei pressed his thumb to the sigil. Pain lanced through his arm—hot, exquisite. Black ink surged across his skin like living spiders, racing up his forearm, over his shoulder, and across his chest. A intricate spider-web tattoo bloomed over his heart, eight legs stretching toward his throat. The final leg pulsed once, glowing faintly red.

Asmodeus sighed in pleasure. "Contract sealed. Welcome to the game, little spider." He dissolved into black mist that smelled of incense and sin, whispering on the wind, "Unseal me soon… or I'll unseal you first."

The alley fell silent.

Then the System activated.

A translucent blue panel shimmered in front of Li Wei's eyes, visible only to him.

Li Wei stared at the floating text. A laugh—low, broken, then stronger—bubbled up from his chest. It wasn't a dream. The tattoo on his chest burned like proof. He flexed his fingers. The stats were garbage, but the promise… the promise was everything.

He shoved the empty box deeper into the trash, wiped rain from his face, and stepped back onto the main street. The world looked the same—women laughing, men scurrying—but now he saw the threads. Invisible webs connecting every power tower to every collar around every male neck. And he was the spider who had just been handed the venom.

His tiny apartment was a ten-minute walk away: a single room on the 47th floor of a male-only housing block that smelled of boiled cabbage and despair. The elevator still worked on voice command only for registered males. "Li Wei, ID 4782-Alpha," he muttered. The doors slid open with a tired groan.

Inside, he didn't bother turning on the lights. He kicked off his boots, collapsed onto the thin mattress, and stared at the cracked ceiling. The System panel hovered patiently.

He whispered, "Status."

The numbers hadn't changed. Still pathetic. But the Domination stat now read 1/100 with a tiny red spider icon pulsing beside it.

Not a dream.

Li Wei closed his eyes. Sleep came fast—exhaustion from death and rebirth hitting like a freight train. In his dreams he saw faces: the Enforcer captain who had killed him, her perfect lips curled in contempt; the corporate heiress who had once made him kneel in her office for a promotion he never got; the professor who had graded his thesis "subversive" and reported him to the Purity Board. All of them. Every single one.

He woke to the gray light of dawn filtering through the blinds. 06:12. The city outside was already stirring—hover-cars humming, female newscasters on the wall screen praising the latest "Harmony Initiative."

Li Wei sat up slowly. The tattoo on his chest itched. He peeled off his shirt and stared in the cracked mirror bolted to the wall. The spider web was real—black lines sharp as razor wire, the center glowing faintly like it was alive.

He opened the System again.

[Spider System – Level 1]Host: Li WeiStats unchanged.New Notification:First conquest window open. Target within 500 meters: Female, Status Rank B – Mid-level Enforcer Patrol Officer. Name: Captain Zhao Lin. Location: Alley checkpoint, two blocks east. She is alone.

Li Wei's lips curved into a smile that would have terrified his old self.

He pulled on a clean shirt—still threadbare, but now it felt like armor. The Venom Whisper skill hummed in his veins like a promise. He didn't know exactly how it worked yet, but he didn't need to. He only needed to start.

The door clicked shut behind him.

Outside, the rain had stopped. The streets smelled of wet metal and possibility.

Li Wei walked toward the checkpoint with the calm of a man who had already died once and come back hungrier.

The first thread of his web was about to be spun.

And the Matriarchy had no idea what was coming.
