Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Retreating to Advance

Xu Ruizhi felt his mother's two firm yet soft peaks pressing against his cheek, making it a little hard to breathe. He shifted his head to find a fresher direction for air.

As the milky scent from his mother's ample bosom wafted over him, Xu Ruizhi felt his heart flutter. He held tightly to her plump yet slender waist, basking in the warmth and comfort her body offered.

After a while, Yang Zhurou emerged from her melancholy and realized this little rascal was shamelessly nuzzling against her generous curves. Even through her clothes, she could clearly feel the rise and fall of her breasts under his touch. His hands were no better—the ones that had been around her waist had now slipped down to her hips.

Yang Zhurou was instantly overcome with shame and annoyance. For a moment, she wanted to push her son away, but then she remembered the harsh words she had said to him the night before. Hesitating, she ultimately refrained from any drastic action, allowing him to continue his unrestrained behavior while comforting herself inwardly: This is the last time. Consider it making up for scolding him last night.

Seeing that his mother did not reject his intimate advances, Xu Ruizhi secretly rejoiced. He had gambled correctly. He knew that because of last night's incident, his mother was filled with guilt deep down. That was why she had been especially doting toward him today and could only silently permit his actions.

Having decided to continue winning his mother's heart, Xu Ruizhi also knew when to stop and quit while he was ahead. Just as he was about to withdraw his hands, a woman's teasing voice suddenly came from inside the hospital room: "You two are so close, mother and son! As the third wheel here, I can't help but feel completely out of place. Looks like I need to find a boyfriend and have a precious son like yours too…"

Though the voice was gentle, the strong undertones of jealousy and sourness in her tone were unmistakable.

Hearing the familiar voice, Xu Ruizhi inwardly sighed with a bitter smile. Is this what they call a battlefield of love?

"What? Is it wrong for a mother and son to be a little close? As for you…" Yang Zhurou released Xu Ruizhi, turned around, and walked into the hospital room. Glancing at the beautiful young woman sitting by the bed, her tone turned slightly sarcastic. "An old cow eating tender grass—how shameless. If you end up pregnant, don't expect me to care. And if you want to marry into this family, you'll have to see if I agree!"

Song Lianwei curled her lips and snorted coldly, retorting insincerely without backing down. "Who wants to marry your son! Do you think I'd be willing to marry some immature little brat?"

Yang Zhurou was about to argue back when she suddenly realized that bickering with Song Lianwei in front of her son seemed rather childish. No matter what, she was the victim here. If she continued to argue, wouldn't she just come across as unreasonable?

So, she suppressed her anger, turned her head, and glared at Xu Ruizhi, feeling indignant and resentful. It's all this wretched child's fault. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be arguing with Lianwei.

At that moment, Xu Ruizhi was clearly stunned. He had never expected that his mother and Aunt Song would end up confronting each other over him, right in front of his eyes.

Xu Ruizhi quickly closed the door and stepped inside, positioning himself between his mother and Aunt Song. He tried to mediate, saying, "Please don't argue anymore. No matter how you look at it, it's all my fault. I was wrong. Can you both forgive me just this once?"

Song Lianwei glanced at Yang Zhurou, then at Xu Ruizhi, sighed, and shook her head. She looked at Xu Ruizhi with a mix of reproach and concern. "You little rascal, you didn't come home all night. Where on earth did you go fooling around? Do you have any idea how worried your mother and I were all night?"

Xu Ruizhi avoided her gaze guiltily, lowering his head as he stammered, "I... I was... outside..."

Song Lianwei cut him off sharply, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Could you at least try not to stutter when you're lying?"

"I... I wasn't trying to lie," Xu Ruizhi protested earnestly, lifting his head. After a moment of hesitation, he gritted his teeth and finally decided to use telepathy to explain everything about Fang Hanmeng...

After hearing Xu Ruizhi's explanation, Song Lianwei's expression darkened, and she glared at him fiercely. This kid really needed a good scolding—first he had her, and now he was even taking advantage of a woman with intellectual disabilities? How utterly despicable.

She clenched her teeth, glaring at Xu Ruizhi as if she wanted to rush over and twist his ear to teach him a lesson. In the end, she held back. If she didn't know his character well—that he wasn't the type to fool around recklessly—and if he hadn't genuinely not meant any harm, she would have slapped him right then and there.

"Aunt Song, please help me. Can you play along with me in this act? Hanmeng is still waiting for me in that unfinished building, and it's a dangerous place. What if she runs into some thugs or something..." Xu Ruizhi pleaded urgently through telepathy.

Song Lianwei gave him a cold look but eventually nodded reluctantly. Xu Ruizhi breathed a sigh of relief. He knew Aunt Song cared for him deeply and wouldn't abandon him.

Seizing the opportunity, he laid out his plan to Song Lianwei: "You want me to attend Hangang High School and go to the capital with you, right? I agree. Here's what we can do..."

After listening to Xu Ruizhi's plan, Song Lianwei furrowed her brows, thinking it over for a long time before reluctantly agreeing to his proposal.

Xu Ruizhi was overjoyed but still pretended to be nervous, stammering, "I... I... was..."

"Enough. Lianwei already told me the whole story last night. There's no need to hide it from me."

Yang Zhurou couldn't help but find her son's stammering amusing. She shot him a playful glare before chiding him gently.

Yang Zhurou had always been sharp and perceptive. She had guessed most of her son's little tricks. She reached out and patted Xu Ruizhi's shoulder, speaking earnestly. "Ruizhi, remember this: I am your mother. No matter what you do, I will never blame you. But there are certain lines you must never cross. Do you understand?"

Her words startled Xu Ruizhi. He wasn't foolish—he understood exactly what she meant. Last night, Aunt Song had already told his mother everything. At the same time, he felt a pang of disappointment. Although he had known his mother would likely refuse him, hearing it directly still left him feeling disheartened and frustrated.

However, Xu Ruizhi was not one to give up easily. Even though his mother had refused him, he was determined to keep trying. Besides, he had harbored an inexplicable longing for his mother since childhood.

Xu Ruizhi couldn't help but glance at Aunt Song, as if blaming her for telling his mother everything. Song Lianwei, of course, understood his look. She rolled her eyes disdainfully and said irritably, "Why are you looking at me? You know your mother's temper. If I hadn't told her, who knows what she'd have accused me of! I don't want to be labeled as a flirt who seduces minors."

Hearing Song Lianwei's sarcasm, Yang Zhurou couldn't be bothered to respond. Instead, she took her son's hand and said gently, "Let's just forget about this. Last night, it was my fault for losing my temper, but..." She paused, her expression turning serious, and continued meaningfully, "I hope you remember that I am your mother, and I can only be your mother. I hope you respect my decision."

Upon hearing this, Xu Ruizhi's heart sank. A wave of bitterness surged within him, and his eyes dimmed. He pressed his lips together and nodded, his right hand clutching his chest as if suppressing something. After a long moment, he finally managed to say, "I understand."

Seeing her son's reaction, Yang Zhurou couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. Over the past decade, she had spoiled him too much. She had been overly affectionate with him, never even locking the door when she showered. And every time, her son would sneak into the bathroom to watch her bathe—something she had always turned a blind eye to. Now, it had led to him developing inappropriate feelings for her.

Sitting by the bedside, Song Lianwei watched the mother and son exchange words, feeling a bit puzzled. Their conversation sounded somewhat strange.

She vaguely sensed that something was off.

Before she could think it through, Xu Ruizhi's voice suddenly echoed in her mind through a secret transmission: "Aunt Song, it's time to execute the plan. No matter what you hear later, don't be too surprised. If we slip up, it's all over. Please."

Though filled with confusion, Song Lianwei had no choice but to follow the plan.

"I'm going to take a nap. I was worried about you all night and didn't sleep well," Song Lianwei said, yawning. With that, she lay down on the bed, closed her eyes, and covered herself with a thin blanket, pretending to be fast asleep.

...

The atmosphere in the hospital room suddenly grew quiet. Xu Ruizhi glanced at his mother, then, feigning guilt, slowly moved to sit on the adjacent bed.

"Where were you last night?" As soon as Xu Ruizhi sat down, his mother's stern voice suddenly rang in his ears.

Xu Ruizhi's heart skipped a beat. It was time!

At this moment, he felt both excited and anxious—excited because his plan was finally about to unfold, and anxious because he didn't know how his mother would react once she learned about the disgraceful thing he had done.

But now, Xu Ruizhi had no time to be afraid. To win his mother, he was willing to risk everything!

Taking a deep breath, he turned to face her, looking obedient and lowering his head as he whispered softly:

"Mom, I... messed up. My mind is a mess right now, and I don't know what to do..."

Getting straight to the point is much better than beating around the bush. At a time like this, playing any tricks would seem childish and could easily backfire.

"Got into trouble?" Yang Zhurou was taken aback for a moment before her face filled with concern. She quickly leaned closer to her son and anxiously pressed, "What did you do wrong? Tell me quickly, Mom will figure something out. Don't scare me like this."

Yang Zhurou was the epitome of a virtuous wife and loving mother. Her son was her whole world. Despite the stern and serious expression she had just worn while questioning him, deep down, she was more anxious than anyone.

"I..." Xu Ruizhi hesitated, as if there was something he found difficult to say.

Seeing her son like this, Yang Zhurou grew even more frantic and urged him, "Hurry up and tell me, what exactly happened?"

Xu Ruizhi pretended to struggle with hesitation for a moment before finally gritting his teeth and saying, "Last night, wasn't I so angry that I ran out of the hospital? After I left..."

...

"And then... and then... I wasn't paying attention and... and..." Xu Ruizhi's voice grew softer and softer until he finally lowered his head, looking like a child who had done something wrong and didn't dare to meet his mother's eyes.
