Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - The Boy and the Hidden Flame

The village of Emberforge woke slowly, as it always did, with the sound of metal striking metal echoing through the morning air.

CLANG. CLANG. CLANG.

Kai Stormblade stood outside his father's forge, holding a basket filled with bread. The warmth from the ovens mixed with the heat of the forge, making the entire street feel alive. Smoke rose into the sky as blacksmiths began their work.

"Kai!" a small voice called.

He turned to see two younger children struggling to carry a bucket of water. Without hesitation, he walked over and took the heavier side.

"Careful," he said with a smile. "Don't spill it."

"Thank you, Kai," the girl said.

"It's nothing," he replied. "We've all got to help each other."

That was how Kai lived. Not bullying and chasing fights. Not looking for trouble. Just helping where he could.

But today felt… different.

There was something in the air. Something quiet, but heavy.

Later that afternoon, Kai left the village to gather firewood near the outskirts—an area filled with thick bushes and scattered rocks. Few people went there. It was said to be old land, untouched and forgotten.

As he walked deeper, the wind shifted.

Then he heard it.

A faint voice.

"…come…"

Kai stopped.

"Hello?" he called out.

No answer.

But the voice came again.

"…this way…"

He hesitated, then slowly followed the sound, pushing past thick bushes until he reached a hidden opening between two large stones.

A cave.

He had never seen it before.

"How long has this been here…?" he whispered.

Something pulled him forward.

Inside, the cave was quiet… too quiet.

At the center, illuminated by a beam of light from above, stood a sword embedded in stone.

Its blade was dark, but cracks of red light pulsed through it like fire beneath the surface.

Kai's heart began to race.

"…a sword?"

He stepped closer.

The air grew warmer.

The voice returned, stronger now.

"You came…"

Kai swallowed.

"Who's there?"

No answer.

Only silence.

Then slowly… he reached out.

The moment his hand touched the hilt—

BOOM.

A surge of energy burst through the cave.

The ground shook.

The sword loosened.

And with one pull—

It came free.

The light vanished.

Darkness filled the cave.

Then…

A massive figure emerged from the shadows.

A being made of stone and fire, with glowing eyes.

The Guardian.

"You dare take the blade…" it said in a deep voice.

Kai stepped back, gripping the sword tightly.

"I didn't mean any harm!"

The Guardian stepped forward.

"This blade is not for the weak."

"Only the worthy may wield it."

Kai stood still, nervous but steady.

"Then test me."

The Guardian's eyes glowed brighter.

"Very well."

⚔️ The Trial

The Guardian attacked.

FAST.

Kai barely reacted in time, jumping aside.

The ground cracked where the Guardian struck.

Kai's heart pounded.

"I can't win by strength…" he thought.

The Guardian attacked again.

Kai dodged.

Again.

And again.

He wasn't trying to fight back.

He was trying to survive.

The Guardian stopped.

"You do not attack."

Kai tightened his grip.

"I don't fight just to fight."

"I fight to protect."

The Guardian charged again—but this time toward a falling rock aimed at Kai.

Kai didn't run.

Instead, he stepped forward.

And pushed the rock aside, protecting himself instead of striking the Guardian.

The cave went silent.

The Guardian lowered its arm.

"…you chose defense over attack."

Kai said nothing.

The Guardian slowly stepped back.

"You are not driven by power."

"You are driven by heart."

The fire around it faded.

"You are worthy."

The sword in Kai's hand began to glow.

A voice echoed inside him.

"I am Ignivar."

"Your spirit… burns bright."

Kai's eyes widened.

The Guardian faded into light.

"Wield it well."

And then… it was gone.

Kai ran back to the village, the sword wrapped in cloth.

He entered the forge.

"Dad!"

His father looked up.

"What is it, Kai—"

He stopped.

His eyes locked onto the sword.

The air shifted.

"…where did you get that?"

Kai explained everything—the cave, the voice, the Guardian.

His father listened silently.

Then he walked closer.

Placed a hand on the sword.

And quickly pulled it back.

"…this is no ordinary weapon."

Kai looked worried.

"Is it dangerous?"

His father looked at him carefully.

Then said:

"No."

"It's yours."

Kai blinked.

"Mine?"

His father nodded.

"But listen to me."

His voice became serious.

"Keep it safe."

"And when the time comes…"

"Be ready."

Kai held the sword tightly.

"I will." That night…

Far from the village…

A man stood in darkness.

His sword pulsed with black energy.

Umbra Tyrannis.

Umbra smiled.

"So… you found it."

His eyes glowed faintly.

"A boy with a strong heart…"

"Interesting."

He turned away.

"I will guide him."

"And when the time is right…"

"He will join me." Unaware of the darkness watching him…

Kai looked at the sword beside him.

His journey had just begun.
